SNOW Daze...

It was a very short week, but we had SNOW much fun!

To celebrate Epiphany we talked a lot of about stars.  We started off by reading this sweet little book about a boy who wanted a star of his own.

During our reading stations we worked on "popping" out sounds.

The kids LOVED using the pop-its to figure out how to spell words.

The kids also worked on these shooting star words.

They used the special vowel stick to figure out what word they created.

The next step was figuring out if it was a real word or a silly word.

We also snuck out into the hallway with our flashlights.

We went on a star search looking for matching stars.

Finally it was time to head outside to enjoy some SNOWY fun!

When we headed inside we played a game called "star search".

They put their game faces on a asked their friend for a matching card.  If they didn't have it..."STAR SEARCH!"

When the day ended we dreamed of more snowy adventures...

Our dreams came true!  The next day brought sunshine and more SNOW!

We started the day with some free time with our friends.

Then we headed over to church for chapel.

Mrs. Helmkamp led our chapel.

We went on a star search in the church.

We found the stars in different spots around the church that reminded us of Jesus.

Back in the classroom we used our special star wands to find our heart words.

We also worked on building  word castles.

Every block or cup had a CVC word on it.

We also discovered the "key" to being a good reader.

On each key the kids found a word.

They took the key to one of the castles

and looked for a sentence to "unlock".
They absolutely LOVED this activity.

In the hallway the kids found a lot of secret boxes.
They had to find the lockbox that matched their key.

When they opened the lock box...
they found a mixed up sentence they had to put together.
This activity was little tricky,
but the kids were up for the challenge!

We headed back outside for another round of snowy fun!

The kids even worked together to build a snowman!

In the afternoon we ventured out to a snowy hill and practiced writing.

They practiced writing their names and wrote numbers 1-20.

The kids finished the day by working on constellations.

First they drew the constellation on a dry erase board.

Then they created the constellation with clay and toothpicks.

We will see what snowy adventures we have next week...

See you soon!
