The OpPoSiTe of Boring!

We SOARED into another week of celebrating how unique God made us.

We started off by reading this wonderful book that was actually written by a kindergarten class!

Then we took some time to talk about we like and don't like.

We even compared our feet, hair, and eye color.

We found out how special God made each one of us.

Then we read this WONDERFUL book about a box of crayons that couldn't get along.

For reading stations the kids headed out to the hallway.

Mrs. Drury had the kids moving and a shaking to go find words.

They had to find the word she described and bring it back to build something with.

The kids also enjoyed making unique snowcreatures.

This one even had a bow!

Wednesday brought OpPoSiTe Day!

Check out these opposites!

Mrs. Crumrine was on vacation to someplace that was the opposite of cold, soooo Mrs. Coons took over.

She had us learning about high/low pitches and loud/soft sounds.

The kids helped tell a story about "Mr. High" and "Mr. Low".

Then we snuck to the gym for some opposite relay races!

They tossed BIG balls

and little balls!

They went around the cones

over circles and in circles.

They ran forwards

and backwards.
The kids had a "ball!

Back in the classroom we read this HILARIOUS book that had the kids begging for more Tacky books!
It is about a penguin that does the opposite of what he is supposed to do.

The kids played this opposite game for one of our reading stations.

Heart words were hiding over or under these "icebergs".

When they lifted up their iceberg, they had to write down the word that was hiding under their bowl.

The kids also LOVED playing this game of BREAK THE ICE!  They had to pound a vowel that was stuck to the. iceberg.

They they added it between to letters to see what word they made.

In this station the kids were matching hard blocks that had capital letters

to lowercase case letters.

After writing these letters down, the kids got to build with them.

In the afternoon the kids were painting with wet and dry.

These little masterpieces became the background for our penguin creations.

The kids also worked together to build with big cups and little cups AND soft blocks and hard blocks.

It was definitely the opposite of a boring night!

Our week wasn't quite done...

Mr. Debrick led our chapel on gifts this week.

He talked about how we all have special gifts we can use to serve God.

Another hilarious penguin book kept us smiling and giggling!

These tricky iceberg sentences needed  help to be assembled.

Once they got it put together, they took turns reading it.

They did a great job of working together.

Chilly Willy helped us put together some mixed up sentences.

Who knew penguins were such good readers!

In the hallway the kids went on a letter hunt.

Once they found a penguin, they wrote down the CVC word.

Building Lego letters was also on our agenda.

The kids enjoyed making ramps and sending "penguins" down the ramp.

After sending the penguins down the ramp,

they checked to see how many landed on their bellies and how many landed on their backs.

Then they made a number sentence to match.

We were sliding into Friday...

After working hard in gym class,

We reviewed our letters and sounds with these fun lips!

I've got the letter h, '/h/ on my lips...

Then we read this sweet book about some colorful penguins.

We worked ,on matching up penguins to their cvc words

In the afternoon the kids were busy lining up the number penguins.

Then the kids played the mystery number game.

Adding dominoes and pattern blocks was also on our agenda.

The kids acted out their own number sentences.

Then they were able to build with their blocks.

The kids also were very proud of the penguins they created!

WADDLE we be up to next week?

To end our week we had another great Friday Reader.

We heard this wonderful book that received an award for it's pictures.

What a UNIQUE week we had!
