We were back for a full week of adventures!
Mrs Jennings had the kids working hard with her Oscar the Grouch game!
Two kids were the "Grouches" and had to protect their garbage cans.
When we got back to the classroom we headed out to be WISE boys and girls looking for our Baby King.
We had to follow the stars to find Him.
We stopped along the way to ask people if they had seen our Baby King.
Mrs. Cooper's class had not seen Him, but they had seen some stars.
SOOOO... we continued on our journey.
The cooks hadn't seen Him, but they promised not to tell King Herod if they did find Him.
The numbered stars led us to the office.
Mr. Debrick is very WISE, but he hadn't seen the Baby King.
The stars led us outside
and to the church.
We looked in the church for the Baby King.
We still didn't find Him.
The stars led us back outside.
We saw another star on the junior high building.
The junior high kids are very wise, but they hadn't seen our King.
We headed back to our classroom, tired and cold.
These kids wouldn't give up. They wanted to keep looking for the Baby King.
Then we saw more stars!
The kids were SO excited to find star number 19! They knew we had to be close.
When we got back to our classroom, we found a treasure box with some special stars in it. This was to remind us that Jesus is ALWAYS with us. When in doubt... LOOK UP!
The kids also enjoyed getting some "moon rocks".
When they opened up the moon rock, they had to read the "alien word"
These silly nonsense words challenged the kids to stretch out each sound and put it together.
They thought this was so funny!
We also had fun adding our snack!
The kids practiced adding this special star and marshmallow cereal.
Then of course they enjoyed eating it too!
We finished the day by painting our own Starry Night paintings.
It was a wonderful day to start off our week!
A blizzard of activities headed our way the rest of the week.
After reading this HILARIOUS book about Splat trying to make his own snow storm...
The kids had a great time pretending shaving cream was snow.
Mrs. Drury called out a nonsense word, and the kids wrote the beginning sound in the "snow".
She even challenged them to write the whole word!
They also had a challenge of matching the right hat to the right snowman.
The hats had the words and the snowmen had pictures on them.
They are "SNOW" good at reading!
In the afternoon Mrs. Tomlinson came in to our classroom to talk to the kids. She is our student counselor and will be coming in once a month to talk with our class.
We also worked on snowmen adding in this race to the top of the snowman.
They had to spin to see how many they got to add or take away.
They had a great time racing the snowflake and polar bear to the top!
The shaving cream was back in the afternoon!
This time we used it to paint snowmen!
The kids also worked hard to create snowflakes.
They were amazed at how they turned out!
Another SNOWY DAY completed, but our week wasn't done...
We bundled up and headed over to music class on Wednesday.
Mrs. Crumrine had some new instruments for us to try out.
They were wooden shakers, but they looked like animals.
Mrs. Helmkamp led a very exciting chapel about how Jesus grew up just like us.
She showed all of the teachers' baby pictures. We got to see how all of us start out little but just like Jesus we will grow up. The difference is Jesus grew up so that He could die on the cross for our sins. Take a peek in our hallway and you will find all of these fun baby pictures.
Thank you SO much for your generosity!
Mrs. Donner came in the classroom and helped us make our own snow using baking soda and hair conditioner.
The kids were surprised at how cold it felt!
At this station the kids were busy building a snow fort.
They had to read the word on their snowman card
before they could add another part to the fort.
Another fun activity was having a word snowball fight!
After reading the word,
The kids threw it back at their friends!
Another snowy activity the kids were busy with, was working on painting with salt! This was the background for another art project.
Ms. Steinbacher came to help the kids with their memory verse.
First they had to put the memory verse together like a puzzle.
Then they decorated a door hanger to hang in their house.
More adventures were headed our way on Thursday.
In math were getting moving with this dice game.
We rolled the dice and added one more to see much exercising we had to do.
We even had to hold our "sled pose" for 7 seconds!
Then it was time to do a little adding with our snowman.
We had some more snowy adventures.
The kids worked together to build these snow fort sentences.
Each cup had a word on it.
They read their sentence and found the cups that matched.
Then they stacked the cups up to make a snow fort sentence.
In the afternoon we were brave and headed outside for a some snowy adventures.
The older kids had made a "slide" for us!
Our snowmen were helping us practice our adding!
3 buttons and 2 sticks = 5
Snowmen are such good helpers!
The kids did a FANTASTIC job of creating what their snowmen do at night! These snowpeople are getting married at night. :)
Before we left we collected some snow. One bowl we left out in our classroom.
One bowl of snow we put in the freezer to see if it would last all year!
One more snowy adventure day left...
We started off our Friday with Mrs. Jennings.
Oscar the Grouch was back!
Back in our classroom, we were busy having another snowball fight.
This time I was throwing a "heart word" at them.
They had to read it
and write it
then they threw it back at me.
They absolutely LOVED this game!
they worked together to build their own snowman trap.
First they had to write down the items they were going to build with.
Then they worked together to put those items together to build a trap.
Once again I LOVE hearing their ideas and their stories.
We also enjoyed the sunshine
and sometime in the snow.
Back in the classroom we enjoyed a "snowy" treat.
We created our own snowcone with crushed ice and sprinkles!
The kids LOVED it!
After eating our special snow,
Then the kids worked together to created their own giant snowperson.
Before all the snow melted, we grabbed a few buckets full snow and brought them into our classroom.
The kids loved practicing writing their numbers in real snow!
If they got a marshmallow card, they got to write their favorite number.
The snow is slowly melting away...
Stay tuned to see what is headed our way next week!
