Take a peek into our week...
Two thumbs up for another great week!
We kicked off the week with MONKEY MONDAY!
the kids were ready to make some MONKEY BREAD!
They picked out a few pieces of bread and put it in a zip loc bag full of cinnamon and sugar!
Then these monkeys began shaking!
These alphabet monkeys were hiding under some shapes.
Whatever monkey letter they got, the kids had to practice writing.
This was a new twist on monkeys in a barrel.
The kids used the monkeys to pick up words.
They could also pick up three letters and put it together to make a word.
Then they wrote the word down on their monkey paper.
These little monkeys had words on them.
The kindergartners lined them up in the correct order to make a sentence.
They also used the monkeys to help them practicing subtracting.
10 monkeys take away 4 hiding in the tree...
equals 6 monkeys left!
Finally it was time to enjoy the monkey bread!
Everybody LOVED it!
They kept asking for MORE!
All it is...
Refrigerator biscuit dough cut into small chunks.
Roll each chunk in cinnamon then in sugar.
(We shook them in a bag filled with cinnamon and sugar to make it a little faster and easier).
Put all of the chunks into a baking dish and drizzle with melted butter.
Bake at 350 degrees for 30-40 minutes.
The kids went BANANAS for it!
We ended the day by enjoying the beautiful weather!
All set for another day of adventures.
This great book led us into lots of learning adventures. The kids were inspired by the mouse to be an author too!
They also enjoyed being magic mice.
The letters magically disappeared and the kids had to write down which letter was missing.
These little magic, magnetic wands helped us with our reading!
I gave them a CVC word to "tap" out on the colorful sound chips.
Then they zapped the word and read it quickly with their wand.
They picked up each sound as they quickly said it to make a word.
They were AMAZED at their magic wand!
The magic wands were back to help us do some subtracting.
First they lined up their magnets.
Next they put some magnets into the magic hat to make them disappear.
The lovely assistant revealed how many were subtracted.
Our study of the Lord's Prayer continued this week.
The kids LOVED learning about "lead us not into temptation" and using the temptation shield.
They threw temptations at me (aka pom poms), and I blocked them with my temptation shield!
The kids put on their thinking caps and designed some mouse mazes.
They had to use a variety of shapes (cubes, cylinders, and cones) to create the mazes.
It was interesting how they used the shapes in different ways.
Then they took the mouse through the maze using a magnetic wand. Some friends even used wands to cheer and flag the mice down so they would know where to go! :)
The kids also enjoyed balancing the shapes.
Then the kids got a little messy.
They did a little mouse painting of their own.
They had to mix the primary colors
to make some very colorful mice!
In gym class, we kicked off MARCH MADNESS kindergarten style.
We practiced shuffling.
We worked on some basketball skills like passing.
And bounce passing.
They even had a little free time for shooting...
and dribbling.
Some kids even showed me a few of their moves. :)
Mrs. Coad continued talking about the string family in music class.
She brought in two different types of guitars for the kids to see.
She even let the kids play them!
The kids LOVED this!
Back in the classroom the rain/sleet couldn't stop this group from having a little puzzle fun!
Our weather study continued by talking about clouds.
This book helped us use our imagination when we look at clouds.
The kids were so excited to try out this cloud dough (made with lotion and corn starch).
They loved the way it felt
and the way it smelled.
They were busy stamping letters in the dough
as they read and spelled out each word.
Who knew cloud spelling could bring so many smiles?
The kids also enjoyed painting their own clouds.
Once they folded the paper over, they used their imagination
This is a bat hanging upside down.
Can you guess what this is?
This 10 frame cloud game
had us feeding the cloud some raindrops to match the 10 frame.
This week's chapel was led by Mrs. Oswald, Mrs. Cooper, and the half day preschool classes.
Mrs. Oswald showed us this beautiful cross that reminds of our triune God.
One cross but three parts that are equally important.
Then the preschoolers taught us a knew song.
The kids loved singing and dancing to this new song.
Thank you for your generosity. We exceeded our goal!
Total for Bethlehem Gas = $3478.34
The kids played a subtraction game by tossing the "muffins" into the muffin tin.
They had to subtract the number of muffins that fell out of the muffin tin.
The kids loved cheering for their friends.
The kids also enjoyed this sight word muffin game.
First they picked a sight word card.
If it matched the cupcake wrapper, they got to keep it.
They had to be careful
because someone could steal their cupcake!
The kids also worked hard to play this muffin matching game.
They had to match the top to the bottom and write the word down.
The kids played a little number game with these pockets.
Everyone closed their eyes as the "teacher" hid some wockets in the pockets.
They had to write down how many wockets ended up in their pockets.
The kids also enjoyed creating their own creatures from the wocket in the pocket story.
YAY! We love Fridays!
SOOOO... we got a giant envelope that helped us with this mystery game.
There were 5 circles in the pocket chart, but when the kids open their eyes there were only four. How many circles were in the envelope???
Sometimes there were even animals in the envelope!
Next the kids each got their own subtraction envelope.
They hid counters or linking cubes inside.
Then they wrote down the number sentence that they created. They LOVED this activity and wanted to play it at home too. :)
A mailbox also showed up to help us with our reading.
The kids picked out a card from the mailbox. The card had a very silly word on it.
The kids wrote out the silly word, but
then they were "WORD WIZARDS" and changed one letter to make it a real word!
Lud turned into mud.
The kids enjoyed playing this traffic light mail game. The kids closed their eyes...
You've got mail! The kids delivered some special words to their friends.
After reading the word, they smashed their letter sounds into their traffic light playdoh.
The kids could think up anything they wanted to!
We ended our week with a fun Friday reader!
The kids were such good listeners she read them three books!
We sure do love our Friday readers!
What will we be up to next week?
