Let's Make Some Noise!

Let's make some noise for another great week!

We started off the week with a visit from Mrs. Martin.  Mrs. Martin started a program called "Mom's in Touch".  A group of moms gets together every Wednesday morning and pray for the students and teachers at Zion.

Mrs. Martin came and talked to us about prayer.  She taught us the PATH prayer.

Praise

Apologize

Thank you

Help.

Look in your child's Friday folder to see the Path prayer they created.

We were also busy making some noise this week!

We tapped out the letter sounds

and slid the word together.

We also used "noise" to help us with our adding.
5 band members ...

plus 5 more = 10!

The kids also had to listen to the sound of a tambourine to help with their adding (and listening skills).

8 taps...

plus 0 = 8

They had to use linking cubes first to represent the sounds and then write the number sentence.

We also had a "masked reader" sneak into our room Monday.

The kids could only ask 3 yes or no questions to try to figure out who the "human being" was...

He thought he would trick them with the Chiefs hat, but the kids guessed it!
He stayed and read to the kids his favorite book...
Where the Wild Things Are.

Then he taught the kids to ROAR their terrible roars!

AND he taught them to ... BE STILL!
We can't wait to find out who the next Masked Reader will be!
We weren't done yet... We were busy with subtraction SMASH!

The kids rolled out 10 balls.
Then they picked out a number.

They had to smash that many balls flat!

I don't know what they liked more... rolling the balls or smashing them!

They also enjoyed adding on the geoboards.

They made quite the creations with their addition problems!

We slithered right into Tuesday...

Our chapel was led by Student Council this week.

They acted out the story of the Good Samaritan.

4th Quarter money will go toward Bethlehem’s Taking Jesus to the Streets Mission.
We have already collected $1194.17 thus far for 4th quarter.

Back in the classroom we were practicing adding and subtracting at our Super Store.

The customer picked out a few items from the store.

The cashier told them if it was a buy one get 2 free item
OR if some of their items were broken and had to be returned.
We even added a banker who would give the customer some pennies to pay for their items.
The kids LOVED adding and subtracting at the store!
We definitely have some SUPER shoppers!

The kids also enjoyed smashing their popcorn words!

I called out a popcorn word.

If they had it, they quickly smashed it!

We also were very excited to enjoy the beautiful weather!

More MARCH MADNESS popped up in gym class.

We practiced our shuffling skills again.

Then we moved onto dribbling.

The kids dribbled 5 times and then bounce passed it to their partner.

Once they felt comfortable with that...

They played a game of "chase" while one person dribbled.

They worked really hard at this skill!

We definitely have some future basketball players!

Mrs. Coad surprised the kids again with another string instrument...

The BANJO!
The kids had a great time singing

 and playing the banjo!

They can't wait to see what instrument Mrs. Coad brings next week!  :)

After reading this hilarious book,

the kids enjoyed creating their own napping houses using our alphabet blocks and word cups.

They even added a few "sleeping " people to their napping houses.

Rainbows brought smiles to our faces this week!

The kids were up for the challenge of adding rainbow loops!

They had to roll the dice to see how many they  had to add together.
Then they tried to stack up that many rainbow loops.

The kids also enjoyed making a rainbow out of dominoes.

They also enjoyed knocking it over!

They each had a different way of designing their rainbow.

Some even made it all the way around the table!

We ended Wednesday with a special Wednesday reader!

He read two great books to the kids!

What a special treat to have a Friday reader on a Wednesday!

We sure do love having special visitors come read to us!

The sneaky leprechaun also showed up this week.

The leprechaun was delivering coins to quiet kids.

If they got coin, they put it on our ten frame.

Then the children had to guess how many coins were left in the basket.

More leprechauns and shamrocks helped us with our reading!

These leprechauns had some real hats and some silly hats that we had to read.

We were also busy looking for rhyming treasure.

If only finding a real treasure, was that easy!

After reading another classic Dr. Seuss book,

the kids went fishing for numbers!

They brought the number back to their team.

Then they had to find the matching 10 frame rainbow.

Our week was not complete until...

We celebrated GREEN DAY!

We started off with a little green eggs and ham adding and subtracting.

They had to toss the eggs onto the giant plate and subtracted any that fell off.

Then we added in the ham.
After reading Little Blue and Little Yellow,

The kids got a little yellow and a little blue. Do you know what they made?

A GREEN MESS!

They also used the green they created

to paint a shamrock.

We learned that St. Patrick used the shamrock to teach people about our Triune God.

Of course we had to read Green Eggs and Ham  on Green Day!

The kids were very excited to try out some green eggs...

The kind you can actually eat!

Some kids were a little "nervous" to try them.

But everyone was very brave.

Most of the kids were surprised at much they like them!
"It just tastes like eggs!"

Some kids even wanted seconds!

Others were not so sure if they liked them or not.

But everyone LOVED the St. Patrick day cookies!

Thumbs up for a great Green Day!

I wonder what will come ROARING into our classroom next week!
Hang in there to find out...
