A Whirlwind of Fun!

Can you believe the week we had?

We were busy building with words this week!

We started off by reading a book by our illustrator of the month.
In the story, Hedgie helps the hen hide her eggs from the Tomten.
The kids set to work with our "word cups".

Their challenge was to build something
that would help Hedgie hide the eggs.

There were also words hiding on the sticks and cups for the kids to practice reading.

The kids LOVED using the "POP ITS" to help them with adding.

After taking two UNO cards
they popped out each number on their pop-it.
2+7=9

Another great Jan Brett book helped us with some fun rain activities.

The kids hid some animals under an umbrella.
Some animals were left in the "rain forest".

The other kids had to write down how many animals were hiding under the umbrella.

More fun POPPED up with these little tools.

The kids carefully spelled out their CVC words.

They pushed each letter down as they said the sound.

If they weren't careful (and quick)
the letters might pop off!

If they get their word complete without losing any letters,

they popped the letter off!

They love this game!

The book fair arrived!

The kids were so excited to make some wishlists.

We celebrated READ ACROSS AMERICA a day early with LOTS of great books to read!

We also kicked off March by talking about "lion" weather.

These little lions had words on them for the kids to practice reading.

The wind also blew in some words.

The kids blew the words to their friends.

They put all the words together to make a sentence.

KABOOM!  This rainbow game had the kids full of excitement.

They had to be very careful what rainbow stick they pulled.

If they read it,
they got to keep the stick.
But if they got "kaboom", they had to give all of their sticks back!

The wind was back!

This time the stormy wind helped us with our adding.

The kids added up how many raindrops blew over the line

and how many stayed behind the line.

1+9=10

The kids had a BLAST playing this game!

The "stormy wind" just might have to come back!
The kids were also busy stacking up raindrops.
Each kid picked out a number.

Then they had a challenge stacking up that many raindrops.
Who knew rain could bring so many smiles!

Finally the day the kids had been waiting for...
GRANDPARENTS DAY!
First we took some time to celebrate Dr. Seuss' birthday.

These little birthday hats helped us practice our rhyming.

The kids got a little worn out playing "HOP on POP"!

They put together an obstacle course of words.

Then it was time to jump!

They jumped over each word as they read it.

They also had fun playing this silly game!

They picked out a card.  If it was a nonsense word...

they had to make some silly faces!

What great silly faces kindergartners can make!

Finally some very special people arrived!

Here are some of the fun adventures that took place...

We hope our grandparents enjoyed being kindergartners for a little while!  :)

It was a  GREAT day!

We hope they can come see us again soon.  :)
