Sun's out... FUN'S OUT!
More SEUSStastical fun headed your way!
As always Mrs. Jennings was full of fun surprises to get us moving...
This time the kids had the challenge of playing pickle ball...
They also learned how to play badminton.
This wonderful Dr. Seuss book helped kick off our week.
In math we were busy either subtracting eggs
or adding eggs to our giant Horton the Elephant.
When the kids opened their eyes, they had to guess what happened and help write a number sentence to match.
Our reading stations were also EGGcellent!
Each kid had a turn to "catch" the spinning egg.
After opening the egg,
they took the mixed up letters out and figured out what word it made.
Then everyone on their team had to spell that word with their magnetic letters.
We even headed outside for a little egg hunt.
Once they found the egg, they had to highlight the hidden word on their paper.
In the afternoon, we were busy building a spot for Horton's egg to sit.
The kids rolled two dice and added up how many sticks they got to add to the trunk.
The last step was seeing if the egg would balance on the trunk.
We were also busy balancing eggs.
Each kid had an egg that had something hidden inside.
They had to guess to see which would be the heaviest.
It was a beautiful day to head outside to end our day!
Don't go yet... we are just getting started.
We started off Tuesday with another silly Dr. Seuss book!
We had a fabulous time in math class having our own "pet show".
We placed the pets on the "stands" and told stories of why they got added to the show...
*Best at barking.
*Best at jumping.
*Best at climbing on the monkey bars. :)
Then we practiced our subtraction stories. These two dogs got adopted, these three went outside to play, etc.
For reading stations we were busy looking for animal homes.
We had to look for the hidden "heart word" on the back of the animal.
When we found a match, we wrote it down.
In the afternoon, the kids had a blast with making animal houses for the dogs and cats.
First they had to roll the dice to see how many building materials they were able to use.
The next tricky part was balancing it on top of a bowl!
It took a lot of steady patience.
TA DA! They were SO proud of their creations.
A rainy Wednesday couldn't squash our smiles!
Ms. Steinbacher did another amazing job of leading our chapel this week.
She reminded us that Jesus traded in His crown of glory for a crown of thorns because He loves us SOOO much!
Our rainy adventures continued in the classroom.
The kids had to carefully take a word raindrop from the umbrella.
Then they had the challenge of turning the word into a real word that had the letter "u" hiding in the middle of it.
For example... hog became hug.
Mrs. Collins took the kids in the hallway for some stormy adventures.
The kids had to match the letter lightning bolt
After reading this spectacular book by Jan Brett,
the kids put their thinking caps on and created their own umbrellas.
They had to design something that would keep the animals dry.
They also discovered the plastic shapes were see through if you held them up to the light!
These two made a great team!
They cheered each other on and carefully placed each piece on top of their tall umbrella.
The kids also became expert splatter painters
as they painted a rainy scene for their umbrellas.
Ms. Steinbacher was also back to help us practice our memory verse.
The kids had the challenge of putting together a Lord's Prayer puzzle.
They did a fantastic job with this!
Thursday we were ready for the sun to come back out!
Pete the Cat and His Magical Sunglasses helped us get ready for some fun in the sun!
The kids LOVED hunting for words that matched their sunglasses.
Each pair of sunglasses had a word hidden on it.
They had to find the sun that had the same word on it.
After reading this book about a great day for up...
we practiced using oil pastels to create a sun.
The kids also practiced adding as they built these towers up, up, up!
It was another balancing act.
Some kids even worked with partners to practice their adding.
Some kids balanced over 35 squares on top of the cup!
We were looking good for last day of the week...
It was time for more pickle ball fun in the gym!
Badminton was also on the agenda.
The kids enjoy using beach balls to play!
We ended the week with another folktale.
For math the kids enjoyed acting out our own story of growing plants.
Jose is stomping the ground out and getting it ready to be planted.
Next we rolled the dice to see how many seeds we got to plant.
Next up we watered the seeds and practiced counting by 5's as we did it.
The sun came out and shined brightly on the plants.
A rabbit came and subtracted some of our plants!
We rolled the dice to see how many plants grew tall! They did a great job!
For reading stations we were busy making words with carrot letters!
The letters fell from the sky
and the kids worked together to make it into a real word.
We even headed outside to help the red hens fine their bread and rolling pins.
They had to find the right vowel to match the word hiding on the picture.
In the afternoon we read a silly version of the Little Red Hen.
Then we got to work making our own pizzas.
First the kids had to roll the dice
to see how much toppings the chef got to put on the pizza.
The chef handed the pizza to the customer.
Then they had to pay for their pizza.
It cost one penny per topping.
Service with a smile!
We definitely served up a great day of adventures!
We can't wait to see what adventures pop up next week!
