We are officially 100 days smarter!
We kicked off Monday by celebrating our 100th day of school...
In our pajamas!
We started off the morning making 100 handprints.
Mrs. Collins worked hard making sure everyone's hands got painted.
Next up was hopping our way to 100.
Each group took turns hopping 10 tens.
Before we knew it, we had hopped all the way to 100!
We flipped the last card on our 100 chart to complete the 100 hopping challenge.
Next on the agenda was gym class...We found Mrs. Jennings all decked out in her dino pajamas!
She had the kindergartners do 100 exercises!
100 football throws.
100 soccer ball kicks.
Walk 100 steps.
100 hula hoops.
100 dribbles.
Back in the classroom, we were busy balancing our 100 day items.
First they had to predict which item they thought would be heavier and lighter.
Then we checked.
We are working hard to find the lightest item and the heaviest item.
I am going to have to bring in a scale for some of the heavy items!
We were hard at work forming 10 groups of 10.
They rotated to 4 different tables, practicing counting 100 of different items.
This is 100 linking cubes.
This is how long 100 linking cubes are compared to kindergartners.
The kids LOVED making their own 100 day snack.
They had to take 10 of 10 different yummy foods.
They couldn't wait to eat it!
The kids also enjoyed the challenge of take 100 and turning it into something. We had some snowmen, cats, some cars, even some glasses! These kids are so creative!
We took a break from our 100 day activities to play in the snow!
We have lots of ice for sale!
The kids even made an ice castle.
Our afternoon was filled with more 100 day fun!
The kids worked hard making 100 polka dots.
They also went in search of 100 numbers.
Of course they LOVED eating their 100 day snack.
Hip, hip hooray!
It's our 100th day!
Cold and snowy weather couldn’t stop our happy, warm smiles as continued our week!
We started off Tuesday with lots of building and creating.
Jan Brett's story The Mitten kicked off our morning adventures.
For math, we had to either add animals to the mitten
or subtract them.
The kids had a blast acting out the story problems and pretending to be the animals.
The rest of the kids had to figure out if we added animals to the mitten or subtracted them.
We also had fun pulling letters out of the giant mitten.
The rest of the kids had to guess what letter it was and write it down.
Another group was busy going on a mitten hunt.
They had to write down the beginning sound of each mitten.
We bundled up our learning by matching cvc word mittens together.
Once they found a match, they had to write it down.
The kids even headed outside to use marbles to paint mittens!
They had to shake the boxes to get the marble to move through the paint.
They even ran and shook the boxes at the same time!
In the afternoon the kids worked with a partner to practicing adding and subtracting animals.
The partner had to guess if they added or subtracted the animals.
They loved being sneaky!
The kids also enjoyed measuring some old mittens.
We finished off our activities using bubble wrap for painting!
We used these special prints to create our bulletin board.
"Oh you can't keep Jesus love in a box. Cuz His love will come a bubblin' through!"
We were ready for another great day...
Wednesday we headed to music class to do a little singing and dancing!
For science, we read this great book about animals in the winter time. Some are over and some are under the ground during winter time.
For our reading time, we read another GREAT book by Jan Brett. The animals are looking for ways to stay warm...
Mrs. Donner joined us for our reading stations.
The kids made cozy homes for the animals to hibernate in.
They worked so hard on their creations.
In fact some of them took extra supplies home, so they could add more to it!
My group was looking for the rabbit that was hiding under the snow.
They had to guess which "heart word" snow pile the rabbit was hiding under.
They had to lock in their answer by writing it down on their board.
We even ventured outside to find the missing winter wear items!
Each article of clothing had a word hidden on it. They had to mark the word off of their word list.
This may look like a mess, but Thursday these girls were hard at work! Look carefully! They created a long railroad track that stretched across the room! It was made complete with tunnels and animals along the way!
We also had a very special chapel on Thursday.
Mrs. Thoelke led chapel along with the band!
They did a GREAT job of acting out the story.
Afterwards we had our own little mini concert.
The kids loved dancing and clapping along.
Back in the classroom we were busy sledding our way through subtraction.
We had to subtract all the animals that flew off the sled!
We also got our winter gear on!
The kids had to guess whether I added to their snow gear or took some away.
Then we had to come up with a number sentence that matched our snow gear.
2 mittens + 3 scarves= 5
Some friends got to be my helpers and picked out the snow gear.
There is no business like SNOW business!
We had a blast retelling this hilarious story!
The kids even worked together to make ramps of their own.
Another group was busy adding or subtracting animals from the giant sled.
One friend acted it out
while the others had to figure out what happened and come up with a number sentence to match.
Friday we put our game faces on for FOOTBALL FRIDAY!
We started off the morning playing tag with Mrs. Kuhlmann for gym class.
Back in the classroom we were working hard not to FUMBLE the ball!
Each team got 5 tosses.
We had to create a number sentence based on how many they caught and how many they dropped.
The best part was hearing these kids cheer each other on!
If they fumbled the football, we cheered "THAT'S OK!"
Sometimes we even used a helmet to catch the ball!
We are all set for the SUPER BOWL!
We put our GAME FACES on for our reading stations.
We worked hard to be SUPER readers!
First they had to find the right word hiding on the cone.
Then they had to line them up to make a sentence.
Finally they weaved in and out of the cones as they read the sentence.
In this football game, I fumbled three footballs.
The teammates had to quickly grab a football.
When they opened the football up, there was a letter hiding inside.
The last teammate collected the letters and put them together to make a word.
They LOVED this game!
The kids were also working hard to find these cvc word teammates.
They had to find a match before building the word with magnetic letters.
In the afternoon we were busy playing a football card game.
The kids tried to make as many matches as possible by asking their friends for card.
If they didn't have a card, they said "FUMBLE!" The other player had to draw a card.
They kids did a great job with this game!
We finished off our stations by making prints for our memory verse art.
The kids each designed a stamp out of foam scraps.
The next step was to paint it.
They gave it a little back rub...
TA DA! They were shocked at the masterpiece they created!
We finished off the day by turning our classroom into a construction zone as our talented little designers and builders built football stadiums!”
With big imaginations and busy hands, we definitely scored a touchdown with this activity!
