STAR Search!

We were excited to be back with our friends!

Our week was definitely STACKED with learning adventures!

In math we were busy adding this week.

The kids loved rolling our "party" dice to see what two number we had to add together!

We started off our starry adventures reading this special book.

Then we went in the hallway to look for some stars of our own.

The kids each used a special light to match their moon to the right star.

The kids also enjoyed playing a game called "star search".

It was very similar to "GO FISH" only we used star cards!
The kids loved this game!

Tuesday our star fun continued as we celebrated Epiphany!
We started off by reading this book about a camel who thinks he is too small to be important. He discovers he has a very important job... bringing gifts to the baby King.  Ask your child who the baby King is???

The kids loved using these special wands to look for stars around the room.

These stars had their heart words on them!

The kids also enjoyed using special star wands to read puzzle sentences.

First they had to put the mixed up sentences together.

It was such a beautiful day, Mrs. Hetlage took a group outside for some reading fun.
They raced to find a star on the hill.

Then they had to highlight the word they found on their paper.

They also enjoyed using heart stamps to "map out" their heart words.
The kids were excited for this activity.  Some said they have the same stamps at home!

In the afternoon we read this wonderful book about a boy who wanted a star of his own.

Then the kids rolled a dice to see how many stars they could add to the night sky.

We also talked about a painting by Vincent Van Gogh called "Starry Night".

The kids painted their own "starry night" paintings.

What a masterpiece!

Wednesday we were excited to see Mrs. Crumrine again for music class.

We also headed to chapel with Ms. Steinbacher.

She reviewed the Chrismons one more time.

Then she showed us the final Chrismon.... the STAR!

During the month of January, our chapel offerings will support the Global Kids Fund  from Lutheran Hour Ministries   Offerings sponsor programs for youth in Mongolia and elsewhere that are designed to share the Gospel with those who have not yet heard it. The ministry hosts
  • vacation Bible school
  • youth gatherings, and workshops
  • outreach to youth in need
  • resources that teach about Jesus and offer biblically-based guidance.
By supporting our Global Kids Fund, YOU can help share Christ’s message of hope with children throughout Mongolia through LHM’s programs.

Back in the classroom we read the sequel to How to Catch a Star. The kids LOVED these two books!

Next up we blasted off to our reading stations
One stop was looking to see what was hiding in the star.

The star contained some mixed up letters.

The kids had to figure out how to put the letters in the right order to make a word.

They LOVED this game!
Mrs. Donner stopped by and introduced us to BEEBOT.

The kids picked out a moon.  Then they had to program BEEBOT, so he would drive to the right letters.

They had to work together to make him spell the word.
The kids can't wait for Beebot to come again!

In the afternoon we read this sweet book about Henry finding his own special constellation in the sky.

The kids had a blast trying to make their own constellations.

Some kids even figured out how to make real constellations.  This is Orion!

We also talked about what a border is.  The kids created their own starry border.

The kids also worked on adding blocks.
First they had to spin the spinner to see how many blocks to add together.
Next they added that many blocks to their creations.

To finish our day we had a surprise birthday reader!

Ellie's dad came and read to us a WONDERFUL book!

It was a great way to end our day!
Thursday morning brought lots of teamwork and smiles!

We were also racing our way to some adding fun.

The kids had to race to pick up a number.

Once they picked up numbers,

They delivered the numbers to Roger the Robot.

Roger had to add the two numbers together (with the help of his classmates).

The kids also enjoyed using galaxy playdoh to create letters.

First they had to deliver the star to the correct rocket ship.

Next they had to make the letter with some special playdoh.

The kids also enjoyed launching shooting stars to a moon that contained a word.

They had to figure out which moon their star landed closest to, and write it down.

In the afternoon, we were busy creating constellations.

The kids rolled the dice to see how many "stars" to add to their constellation.

First they put them in the adding trays

before creating something with them.

We were also busy finishing our memory verse art!  We can't wait to share it with you!

To end our day we had another fun birthday reader!

The kids absolutely LOVED this silly book!

It was another great ending to a great day!

Friday we headed to gym class.

The kids had a blast playing this Oscar the Grouch game!

Some kids had to defend the trashcan,

while others tried to get the garbage into the can.

When we went back to our classroom we headed out on a special journey.
These "WISE KIDS" had to follow the stars to find their Baby King!

We stopped to see the cooks but they had not seen Him.

The next stop was the school office.

They had not seen our Baby King.

The stars led us to the church!

This star led us to some "wise students" in the junior high building.

They had NOT seen our Baby King!

I wanted to give up, but the kids wanted to keep searching.  They refused to give up!

Soon they discovered another star...

and another heading to our classroom.

We found 20 back in our classroom right above our altar!

An empty manger and treasure box were also sitting by our altar.

Inside the treasure box was a star reminding us that Jesus is always with us
and a little gem to remind us that we are God's treasure.

It was quite the starry adventure!

Next up the kids were searching for stars in the classroom.

They has to add up the different colored stars.
They were very good at finding the stars!
The kids were also busy making heart word tracks.

After reading the word they added them to the path.

When they were all done, they took the "wisemen" on a journey on the path.

The kids were also busy being STAR readers!

They added a vowel stick to their star to discover what different words they could make.
Twinkly smiles and thankful hearts ....What a GREAT star search day!

A beautiful, star-filled week full of smiles and God’s blessings.

Thanks for stopping by!  See you next week!
