Our smiles were back after a long weekend, and we were ready for more fun adventures!
As we continued to talk about being unique, we read this wonderful book. The kids loved it even more because they found out a kindergarten class helped write it!
For our reading stations we were busy putting people together to see what word we could make.
I gave them three people with letters stuck to them, and the kindergartners had to turn it into a word.
Then they had the challenge of turning that word into a new word by changing one letter.
We were also busy using Legos to spell words.
First one partner had to pick out a word from a bucket
and read it to their partner.
The partner had to figure which LEGO letters they needed to spell that word.
The last step was highlighting the word on their paper.
Wednesday, we were excited to celebrate OpPoSiTe DaY!
Wednesday we headed to music class.
We had a substitute teacher named Mrs. Talley. She brought her clarinet!
Some of the notes she played were really high!
Mrs. Talley also helped us with our opposites. She played HIGH!
And she played low.
Next up was chapel.
Ms. Steinbacher led our chapel about Jesus choosing His disciples. He loved them very much!
We discovered one more disciples... US! We were all His disciples, and He loves us too!
Thank you again for your generosity!
We were also talking about penguins. We discovered penguins are perfect birds for OPPOSITE DAY!
The kids had fun working together to put these iceberg sentences together.
Once they got it together,
they used a penguin to help them read the sentence.
HIGH FLIPPERS for being such great readers!
The kids were also busy working on the opposites sink and float.
Mrs. Donner came to help the kids build a raft to keep the penguin afloat.
They used all kinds of different materials for their rafts.
Before the penguin could go for a ride the kid had to pay a ticket... They had to match their penguin with an egg with the same "heart word".
Then it was time to test it out...
YAY! It worked!
The kids also headed outside for an opposite obstacle course to put together a sentence.
They had to go in and out of things.
Over
and under things too.
Once they gathered all of the words, they worked together to make a sentence.
The kids absolutely LOVED reading this hilarious book! Tacky the Penguin does the exact opposite of what he is supposed to do!
In afternoon we were working on SMASHING subtraction!
First the kids had to spin to see how many balls to flatten.
Then they had a blast smashing the playdoh balls.
When they were done, they had to figure out how many were left.
The kid also enjoyed opposite painting!
They used a WET ice cube to paint some DRY, powdery paint.
They couldn't believe the magical results!
This became the background for their penguins Look in the hallway to see their final masterpiece!
We finished the day with a very crazy OPPOSITE ADVENTURE!
The kids were able to go UP the slide instead of DOWN!
They had the best time with this challenge!
Smiles just exploding from their faces as they attempted to get up the slide.
The best part was hearing them cheer each other on.
It was a great way to end our day!
We were sad to see OpPoSiTe DaY disappear,
but we were ready to face our next adventure!
Thursday we had a few extra moments of free time in the morning to build and create.
Then we were ready to make our penguins slide for math class.
We sent the penguins down the slide to see how many flipped over.
We practiced subtracting the penguins that landed on their backs.
5 penguins - 2 white penguins= 3 black penguins
These little penguins liked to play in the snow.
After picking out a penguin, the kids had to find the matching word.
Then they wrote that word in the "snow".
This was a messy game, but the kids LOVED it! AND it smelled SOOOO good!
The kids were also busy sending the penguins down the slide to make a sentence.
They took turns sending a word down the slide.
The "catcher" caught the words and put them in the correct order.
They also enjoyed playing a penguin game called...Pengaloo!
First they rolled the colorful dice.
Whatever color they rolled
they had to try to find an egg that matched that color.
Each penguin and egg had a heart word hidden on it.
They had to read the word before they could pick it up.
They LOVED this game!
Friday arrived with smiles and laughter.
We headed to gym to kick off our chilly day. Mrs. Jennings introduced the KIDS HEART CHALLENGE.
Then it was time to play banana tag.
After being tagged,
They became a banana!
In math class we were busy feeding Puddles the penguin.
First we had to spin the spinner to see how many fish to take away from our pile.
After feeding Puddles,
the kids had to guess how many fish were left.
The last step was writing the number sentence.
We are getting very good at being super subtractors!
Pengaloo was back for more reading fun!
The kids were also busy matching penguins with their icebergs.
Once they had a match, they had to spell the word with magnetic letters.
The kids absolutely LOVED playing "DON'T BREAK THE ICE"!
Each ice cube had a vowel on it. As they hammered they had to say the sound the vowel made.
Then they had to find a word on their paper that had that vowel in it.
In the afternoon, we read another hilarious Tacky book!
The kids were back making penguin slides.
They worked together to send the penguins down the slide.
Then they worked together to come up with a number sentence.
They loved this game!
To end our week we talked about our Bible verse of the week.
The kids were amazed with the LIFE BABIES we borrowed from the church.
These fetal models represent babies during their first trimester.
The kids' faces filled with amazement and pure joy as they held each baby.
The looks on their faces as they held each baby was priceless.
"I have called you by name."
"You are mine."
Isaiah 43:1
"We are a Box of Crayons
Each of us unique,
But when we get together,
the picture is complete!
