Red Ribbon Week Adventures!

We weren't sleeping on the job...

We were ready to celebrate Red Ribbon Week!

Monday was: "SLEEP PAST DRUGS".  All kinds of fun pajamas showed up!

Special holidays.

Disney princesses.

And FROZEN pajamas too.

Even Mario Brothers showed up.

Being in our pajamas didn't slow us down in gym class.

We were on the move!

Back in the classroom we kicked off the morning by reading one of my absolute favorite bedtime books to read to my kids.

Then for math we were busy adding pajamas.

As soon as we had the pajamas laid out, we yelled, "ONE MORE PLEASE!".  Then we added a slipper tot the pile and added it all up!

Another great book we read was about our favorite character Pete the Cat.

Then we relaxed a little and read to our special stuffies.

We were also busy reading pajamas!

One friend picked up a pajama with a word stuck to it.

After reading the word to their friends,

the rest of the kiddos loved the challenge of trying to make that word with their magnetic letters!

Another group went on a pj hunt.

After getting a picture card,

they had to find the matching beginning sound that was hiding on a pajama.

In the afternoon, we were busy building beds.

First they had to roll the dice to see how many building materials they could use.  They always got to use ONE MORE than the number they rolled.

They made some very fancy beds.

The tricky part was getting a person to balance on their bed!

The kids also enjoyed measuring their stuffies

and measuring pajamas.

They LOVED measuring some little slippers!

Tuesday was:  "TRAVEL PAST DRUGS".

Some friends wanted to travel to Disney World!

Another group of friends was headed to Hawaii.

We were also busy talking about fire safety.

We had to call in the house fire by describing the house number... "The fire is at the number that is one more than 5!".

After figuring out where the fire was, 

A firefighter came and put the fire out.

Everyone helped by counting and "spraying" the fire out!

For our reading stations, we were busy putting out some letter fires.

First the kids picked out a picture.

Then they took a  raindrop letter that matched the beginning sound.

The next step was flying in the helicopter to find the matching flame and put it out.

The kids LOVED this game!

In the afternoon a real fire fighter showed up!

He talked all about fire safety .

And he showed us his equipment and gear.

The kids even got to take special fire fighter hats home!

One little girl said it was the best day ever!

The week of adventures was just beginning...

Wednesday was: SUPERHERO DAY... "STAND UP TO DRUGS!"

Lots of fun superheroes showed up to save the day!

We did some singing and dancing in music class.

Then we headed to a very special chapel.

The kids brought all of their superhero toys to chapel. Thank you SO MUCH! Our box was overflowing!!!!

"Thank you Zion family for sharing Jesus’ love and remembering Drew Albritton as we celebrated his life in heaven.  Through your generosity, we collected 495 toys that will be given to children battling cancer through the organization 'Friends of Kids with Cancer'. " 

The third graders showed up to lead our chapel.

They led us in a fun song!

AND they did some skits about how to be kind and share.

We even recognized a few of the third graders!

Back in the classroom we were working on more fire safety.  This hilarious book was a the perfect way to remind us of some important fire safety tips.

Next we were busy saving letters!

I told the kids a word.  One friend had to deliver the correct letters to another friend using the fire truck.

Once they collected the letters,

they placed them on the special popper and popped the sounds down.

Another reading station was working on matching the fire fighters to their hats.

Then they had to find the correct house that matched their letter sound.

The last step was to put fire out by saying the letter sound.

Ms. Steinbacher stopped by in the afternoon to help us practice our memory verse.

The kids had a great time playing her fun game!

It was a SUPER day!

Wait... Don't go yet!  

A bunch of characters showed up on Thursday!  It was Character Day:  "Take drugs out of your story!"

The kids started out the day building and creating.  Look as this amazing town!

These characters enjoyed some time at the fire station.

We were all set for a "MONSTEROUSLY" wonderful day as we read this GREAT book!

The kids LOVE this books!  

We were busy feeding monsters in math class.

First we spun the spinner to see how much food to give the monster.  Then they monster always wanted one more piece.

We picked four different monsters and compared to see who ate the most food.

During our reading stations we were busy matching monster buddies.

The kids also put on some monster fingers

and gave the letters a monster "tickle".

This hungry monster was busy eating pictures (and a few fingers too!).

The monster asked for a certain letter sound.

If they had a picture that matched that sound, 

they had to feed it to the monster.

The kids LOVED this game!

The kids absolutely loved reading this book about a boy looking for a new monster.

Then they set to work making these special monsters.

They had to roll the dice to see how many of each item they would get.

The kids also enjoyed blowing paint to create their own crazy monster.

The kids couldn't believe how amazing their monster turned out when they folded it!

We've got spirit yes we do!  We've got spirit how about you!

Friday was the ultimate spirit day!

We started off in the gym to get some energy out!

It was off to the races for these "POOR POOR PUPPIES"!

Back in the classroom it was time to dance!

We did some air hugging too!

Next up was cheering for our letters!

They did a great job of leading the letter cheers!

For Jesus time we acted out the story of Moses leading the Israelites across the Red Sea.

After Moses parted the water the Israelites walked safely across the Red Sea.

The kids were very excited to play this monster hide and seek game.

They had to search carefully for the tiny monsters that were hiding in the classroom.

Then we counted them up.

There was always one big monster we had to add onto the little ones.

We had fun adding up our monster fingers too!

The kids loved using the monster fingers to help spell words.

After they gathered the correct letters,

they handed the letters to a friend.

The next friend had to feed the monster the letters in the correct order.

Sometimes there was a sneaky monster who stole a letter 

and turned it into a new word!

They also had fun doing MONSTER relay races.

They cheered for each as they shouted out the word.

The other friends were busy writing the words down.

In the afternoon the kids were busy measuring monsters.

It was a PAWSitively great day!
