What crazy, learning adventures were we up to this week?
We started off reading this WONDERFUL book! If you haven't read it, I highly recommend it. It has a lesson for everyone. One of my favorite lines of the book is...
“Look with kindness and you will always find wonder.”
After that we made our own people cookies.
Even though they used the exact same cookie cutter, all the cookies still looked different.
We were exacted to decorate them and make them look UNIQUE in the afternoon!
In the meantime we were busy making words with the "-an" chunk.
One of my absolute favorite activities to do with kindergarten
is to show them the fetal models.
The kids were SO amazed at how heavy at 26 week old baby is!
She also has arms and legs and kick her momma inside her belly!
We also held a 22 week old baby.
We noticed the features of the baby weren't as defined.
They were amazed at how small the 16 week old baby was.
He fit perfectly in their hands.
The last baby we held was only 12 weeks old!
They couldn't believe how little it was!
Yet God still loved us and new us by name before we were even born!
Luke was so excited! He volunteered to say a prayer, thanking God for making us so special.
It was such a great reminder of one my favorite verses...
I have called you by name. You are mine.
Isaiah 43:1
When the cookies came back, all that was left was an empty tray and a note...
The next day some undercover agents showed
to go looking for clues!
Clue number one showed up on our tray...
We figured out that was the SONSHINE center, so we called Mrs. Oswald who teaches preschool down there.
Mrs. Rouland didn't recognize us at first...
When we asked our question, she had another clue for us!
Her clue told us to knock upon the window of Mr. Maddick!
Some kids knew exactly who he was! He teaches fourth grade!
We bundled up and headed outside.
We found a clue on his window!
Some fun fourth graders were also there to help us out!
The next clue took us to the second graders. The clue on their window said...
Mr. Marolf! Mr. Marolf's clue told us to find Mr. Debrick.
Mr Debrick was gone, but we did find clue number 7 on his door.
His clue led us outside where the kids found some "footprints"!
We were looking for Mrs. Kuhlmann's door when we found clue number 8...
Of course it was the cooks!
They hadn't seen him either, but they did get another clue!
This clue told us to take a little break and have some recess.
We thought for sure he was in the gym!
They also worked hard looking for clues outside at recess.
Suddenly Rozlynn found clue number 10 blowing around by the monkey bars!
The clue said...
When we got to the church basement, we found Mrs. Adams!
She had seen him, and he left her a VERY tricky clue!
We figured out it was MR. THOELKE our music director! We headed upstairs to the balcony to find him.
He was busy teaching but Mrs. Thoelke had a note that was attached to his door!
Ms. Steinbacher stopped us and said she found this picture blowing in the wind. It appeared to be a picture of the gingerbread man's uncle! She also had another clue.
Her clue told us to find some stairs.
I found it by the junior high stair steps.
The kids didn't want to give up!

a book????
The kids were a little disappointed but the note inside said the gingerbread man would be back in the afternoon. Then we thought the book might have some clues inside to help us catch him. There was a surprise ending where the gingerbread baby lives inside of a gingerbread house. We thought maybe we should build him a house!
We got to work making houses and traps for the gingerbread man.
We even worked together to design him a pretend house.
Mrs. Blackford gave them some directions to follow.
They were very proud of the colorful house!
We went outside for our last recess and left the house for the gingerbread man.
When we came back inside we were hoping we would catch him.
Instead we found our cookies were back and there was icing too!
He also left us a picture of himself and gave each kid a little gingerbread friend to remember our fun adventure.
The kids LOVED decorating their cookies.
It definitely was a YUMMY adventure!
Wednesday we kicked off our day with Mrs. Steinbacher. She is the PE teacher for 1st-5th grade.
She introduced us to the KIDS HEART CHALLENGE!
Then we got to work doing a little jumping!
We practiced using the short ropes
and the long ropes.
We even did a little hula hooping.
We are all set for our BIG heart challenge next week!
We definitely have some HIGH FLYERS in this group!
We ended our day finishing one of our memory verse art projects.
We used little gingerbread people and hearts to make a pattern.
We are all God's children.
Romans 8:16
Thursday we had a very special chapel led by the band!
They did a fantastic job of teaching us the story of Samuel!
When we got back to the classroom, Mrs. Donner had arrived to help us learn about shadows.
The kids held up flashlights and used different objects to make shadows.
Then they traced the shadow they created.
We were also busy looking for groundhogs.
The groundhogs needed to find their shadows!
We wrote down all the matches that we made.
We were also busy putting together some groundhog puzzles.
The first groundhog was the picture.
Then they had to find the letters that made the word to match the picture.
We are becoming quite the spellers!
For math the gingerbread men were back.
This time the fox helped us do a little subtracting!
Then we wrote down the number sentence that matched how many cookies the fox ate.
Friday we finished working on subtraction by playing a fun game of "SQUISH IT"!
One friend told a story...
I had 5 pieces of candy. I ate 3. How many were left?
The other friend acted the story out using play-doh.
They had to squash the play-doh to show which ones got subtracted.
We had fun hiding groundhogs under their burrow.
One friend hid their eyes.
The other friend hid a groundhog under one of the "burrows" that had sight words written on them.
They had to write down the sight word that the groundhog was hiding under.
The groundhog puzzles were back!
This time they were working together as team to see how many they could get done.
They did a GREAT job of working together to spell words.
The kids LOVE this new magnetic tool.
We used it to help us practice subtraction!
They pushed the magnetic beads down to subtract them.
We finished our busy week with a fun Friday reader!
She read us her favorite book from when she was a kid!
A FULL, busy week is in the books!
What will we be up to next week????...
