100 Adventures in Learning

We were headed for a SUPER week...

We started off the week with our illustrator of the month's fabulous folktale The Mitten.

For math we focused on figuring out if we were adding mittens or subtracting them!

We started out with 2 mittens.  When the kids opened their eyes there were three mittens!
2+1= 3 mittens

Some friends were even left with 0 mittens!

We took advantage of the sunshine and did a little shaking.

Inside these boxes were a marble, some paint, and a plain white pair of mittens.

They had a blast shaking and dancing to get the marble to move.

The finished products were some amazing mittens!

Back in the classroom we were busy reading and writing mittens. We are really concentrating on making our lowercase letters correctly.

We even found some mixed up mittens, so we worked in teams to put them together to make a sentence.

We also found a giant mitten that had letters hiding in it.  We picked a letter and wrote it down.

More math adventures in the afternoon.

This time we were either adding or subtracting animals from the mitten.  The partner had to guess what happened and write down the number sentence.

Measuring mittens was also on our list of things to get done.

We couldn't believe how big some of the mittens were!

We also had some tiny mittens we were measuring.

To finish out our stations we painted bubble wrap!

The kids were AMAZED at how the hearts turned out!

Hip, hip HOORAY!  It's our 100th day!

We started off the day painting 100 handprints!

Then we worked in teams to hop our way to 100.

Each time hopped a set of 10...

until we reached 100!

The final card in our pocket chart was flipped.

Mrs. Mudd led our chapel this week.
She told the story of Jesus calming the storm.  This is a reminder of how Jesus is always  with us calming our storms.

More 100 day adventures.

The kids worked hard going on a number hunt in the classroom.

They even made a 100 day snack!

Counting out 10 pieces of 10 food items

meant we had 100!
We slid right into the afternoon to finish out our 100 day activities.

Of course there were 100 stacking cups.

We turned 100 into a special design.

Here is a butterfly!

Our 100 day snacks sure were YUMMY!

We also enjoyed making 100 dots.

The challenge of reading 100 books kept us working hard.
We also ended up outside and discovered how far away 100 steps would be...

100 steps led us across the entire soccer field.
We did a 100 photo booth.

We discovered it was a little tricky to hold the 100!

The last part of our day was spent balancing our 100 day bags.

100  Pokemon cards.

100 cotton balls.

100 puzzle pieces.

The kids had to guess with their arms which item would weigh the most.

The cotton balls weighed more than the pom poms.

So far 100 pennies is our heaviest item. We will see if anything tops that...

We had a great time celebrating the 100th day of school!

We will see what the rest of the year has in store!

The fun just kept on coming this week... as we hopped right into the KIDS HEART CHALLENGE!

Check out these hard workers!

Mrs. Steinbacher even helped them with the helicopter jumping.

It was a great time!  Thanks for ALL of your support!

We calmed our bodies down and headed to music class.

Mrs. Crumrine introduced the kids to the xylophone.

Back in the classroom we were working on stoplight reading.

We smashed the green play doh for the beginning sound. The yellow play doh for the middle sound. Finally we smashed the red play doh for the ending sound.

The kids loved playing hockey with our sight word popsicle sticks and CVC pucks.

They read the word before passing it to their partner.

The exercise continued as we hopped over our popcorn words.

The next Olympic event was bobsled racing.

The kids LOVED using the "marble works" pipes to create a bobsled race track.

It took a lot of teamwork to get it to stand.

Then they dropped the marble to see where it would land.

Ms. Steinbacher was back with a fun game to help us remember our Bible verse! It was like playing musical chairs with hula hoops.

Once they got safely to a hula hoop they shouted out, "CALL UPON ME IN THE DAY OF TROUBLE"!

Our week wasn't quite over yet...

After reading 10 on the Sled,

We created our own sled tracks.

The kids had to guess if we added onto the track or subtracted from it.

Then we dropped down the "sled" to see where it would land.
Another friend then wrote down the number sentence to show what happened.

We were busy strengthening our fingers as we picked up these "snowballs".

The kids had to read the letter on the snowball and say it's sound
and something that started with that sound.

The kids LOVED having a little snowball fight with wadded up paper.

We didn't have any snow outside, so we made up our own!

Each piece of paper had a word for the kids to practice reading.

We finished out our snowy day by creating these wintery scenes.

YAY!  It was another great day!
We put our game faces on for FOOTBALL FRIDAY!

UP top hi-fives started off our day.

We cheered for each other

and gave "huddle hugs".

In math we were adding cones.

We also had some football accessories.

Did we add or subtract?

Then we worked hard to come up with the number sentence to match.

These football players challenged us to read some tough words.

The kids had to stretch out FOUR sounds!

It was so nice out, we took our reading game to the sidewalk!

The kids weaved in and out of the cones

before grabbing a football letter.

Then they had to find a picture on their paper that started with that letter and write it down.

We also were busy playing a football number game.

They had to work together to sort the numbers.

Our memory verse art project

left us a little messy!

It reminded us to call upon God in the day of trouble as we see the praying hands appear despite all the mess around it!

We practiced our game faces before...

our fun Friday reader arrived!
The kids loved hearing the story of  Peter Rabbit!

It was the perfect story to end our busy week!
WOW!  What a week!
We are all set for next week's adventures!
