God is Love.

It was such an incredible week to talk about LOVE and kindness!

Mr. Lohman started off our week by coming in to talk about LENT.

He showed us what it would be like on Ash Wednesday to receive the ashes.

He also taught us that we would be celebrating VALENTINES Day the day LENT starts.  What a great reminder of the AMAZING love God has for us!  The word LENT is even hiding in VaLENTine!  :)

In math we were working on adding up to 10.
First we dropped the balls down the shoot.

Then we used the ten frame to match the green and blue balls.

Our next challenge was to throw balls into a bucket.

One partner aimed for the blue bucket and one partner aimed for the purple bucket.

Then we practiced adding up the total number of points.

We didn't always make it into the bucket...

but we sure had a lot of fun playing this game!

This week we worked on being BUCKET FILLERS!  If you haven't read this book, I would highly recommend it!  When we show kindness, we are filling someone's bucket.  Filling someone else's bucket not only fills their bucket, it fills up our own bucket too!  We can also put our "lids" on our buckets when someone is trying to dip from our bucket.  Ask your child one way they can be a "bucket filler".

For Reading Time we were busy with our stoplight words again.

This time we had some "magical" stoplight boards to write on!

We took a word and pressed out each sound.

Then we practiced writing it out on our board.

At another station we were busy delivering valentines to the right mailbox.

First we stretched out the sounds of each word and read the word on the mailbox.

Then the kids matched up the word to the right picture on the valentine.

This game had our hearts pumping!

The kids did exercises while they waited for their turn to fill a bucket!
The kids had to grab letter...

then quickly find the bucket that it matched.
I was impressed with how hard the kids worked until it was their turn!

In the afternoon, we took our 100 day items and measured with them.

We checked to see how far they stretched around the table!

Some kids chose to work together to get the job done.

These two made the shape of 100 with 100 cheerios!

We were all set for another great day!

This time we used a spinner to help us with our adding skills.

After spinning, we picked out that many valentines.

We spun again to see how many more valentines we needed to deliver.

We moved our adding to the tables.

One child rolled the dice and filled up our 10 frame.

Then we rolled again.  Our goal was to try to equal exactly 10.

The kids LOVED playing this game!

They were so excited when we filled our 10 frames four rounds in a row!

In the afternoon, we were busy weighing different hearts.

We used the heart chains or heart erasers to get it to balance.
It was quite the challenge to get it to balance.

We raced our way right to VALENTINE'S DAY!

The kids LOVED playing Glob Tag!

If you got tagged by the "glob" you had to join hands and become a tagger.

In music class the kids had a blast
dancing with Mrs. Crumrine.
These kids have quite the dance moves!  :)

Then we headed to chapel, which was led by Mrs. Helmkamp and Ms. Steinbacher.

Ms. Steinbacher reminded us how God made people and everything was perfect.

However... Adam and Eve sinned and our world wasn't perfect anymore.

The story doesn't end there... God sent us the best valentine ever!

JESUS died for ALL of our sins!

Thank you for your generosity!

Then it was time for us to get our ashes.

Each child had the opportunity to put the ashes on their forehead

on their hand, or they could say "No thank you".

God is love. 1 John 4:16

We finally made it back to our classroom to share our valentine boxes.

Each child had a very special creation to share!

They were so proud of their boxes.

We were also busy figuring out the middle sound our our picture valentines.

They had to match the vowel up to the right picture.

They had to be careful because someone could "steal" their vowel.

Another reading station was passing out their valentines.

The kids also enjoyed looking at my old valentines

and writing down words that they found on the valentines.

Finally it was time to PARTY!

We had a WONDERFUL project that used fruit loops to make little heart bird feeders!

It was interesting to see the different patterns the kids came up with!

Of course we had a YUMMY snack to fuel us up for the party!

The kids also worked hard to make special valentines for our homebound friends.

We have some future HALLMARK employees!

The kids also enjoyed playing an exciting game of "darts".

Except they were trying to get the ball to stick to the owl!

I loved watching them cheer each other on!

This little relay race kept the kids moving!

They had to grab a heart chain

and bring it back to their partner.

Then they ran back and got another one.

When they were all finished,
they measured to see how long their chain was and counted the hearts.

A huge thank you to all of our special helpers!

It was a WONDERFUL Valentines Day!

Our week wasn't quite over...

Mrs. Donner was back, and she brought BEE-BOT!

Bee-Bot was ready to help us deliver some valentines!
First the kids picked up an alphabet heart.

Then they had to find a picture that started with that letter.
They had to program Bee-Bot to carry the valentine to that picture.

Delivering letters to make words

also kept our brains working hard.

They were so great at this challenge!

The valentines were back!
This time we were using them to practice adding!

Our memory verse art...

well, it was a little tricky this week!

The kids had to figure out how to make it STORM on their papers!

It was interesting to watch the different techniques to get it to "rain" on their papers!

Who knew making storms would bring so much laughter!

Thanks for dropping by... We will see you next week!
