It was great to have our class back together again!
Our lights were shining bright, as we went searching for some stars.
These stars matched up to some lowercase moons.
Once they found the star, they marked it off on their paper.
They each used a special light to search for the stars!
Our pop-its were back to help us practice spelling words.
First the kids popped out each sound they heard.
Then they wrote the word, using lowercase letters onto their paper.
We also practiced reading CVC words by "shooting" these stars across the sky!
The kids LOVE this reading activity.
we learned what a constellations was.
Then we used toothpicks and clay to recreate a constellation.
They did a great job with this activity!

The also had fun designing their own constellations, using our geoboards.

Tuesday, we celebrated Norah's birthday with a special reader!
Her mom read to us a WONDERFUL book!
It was a great way to start our day!
Then we headed over to chapel.
Pastor led our chapel on EPIPHANY along with his friend Rupert!
Look for special offering envelopes to come home next week. We will join with Lutheran schools across the USA for a special mission project with Global Kids' Ministries through Lutheran Hour Ministry. All January offerings will go toward mission work aimed at children in Australia!
Back in the classroom we were finishing up our study on shapes.
This time we working on putting shapes together to create other shapes.
Look carefully, this is actually a bunch of triangles surrounding one hexagon.
Some friends worked together to create a whole scene! Do you see the rocket ship?
More star readers!
The kids used a magic vowel wand to see what words they could create.
Sometimes the words were real words.
Sometimes they made silly words.
They thought is was pretty funny when they made a nonsense word!
The kids went on another star search, but this one was in our classroom.
They used a special star wand to look for some very special stars.
They tapped their sight word stars and circled the word on their paper.
Then they got to work creating their own STARRY NIGHT painting.
We ended our day with another special reader.
Quinn's mom came and read about a KITTYCORN!
The kids LOVED having two special readers in one day!
We ended our short week celebrating EPIPHANY!
We decorated our crowns and headed out in search of our BABY KING.
We discovered some stars that had numbers on them!
We followed the stars down the hallway in hopes of finding the newborn king.
The journey was a long one...
We found a star by the kitchen. Maybe the Baby King was hungry???
We asked the cooks, but the hadn't seen Him.
We did discover a beautiful manger scene underneath a BIG star, but not our BABY KING.
Our journey continued with star number 6!
We found a star near the school office, so we stopped to ask them if they had seen the BABY KING.
Mrs. Holtz knows everyone, but she hadn't seen him.
Even Mr. Debrick, who is VERY wise, hadn't seen him!
We did find another star.
This star led us outside!
Look! There is a star on the church!
Of course the BABY KING would be in the church!
Some friends were dancing with excitement!
We headed up the stairs to find Him.
We didn't find the BABY KING, but we did find another special manger scene with the WISEMEN.
We were about to give up, when we discovered star number 15 hiding on the junior high building.
We figured the junior high building had a bunch of WISE children that might be able to help us.
We found a WISE GUY, but he hadn't seen our BABY KING. He did promise us not to tell King Herod if he found the BABY KING.
The kids were very disappointed when I said we had to stop searching, because it was time for recess.
They thought maybe we could keep looking during recess!
They even started chanting, "NEVER GIVE UP! NEVER GIVE UP!" :)
They ran over to the preschool playground and asked them!
After recess, we headed inside.
They soon discovered number 17!
Number 19 was hanging above our door!
When we got inside, we found a special treasure box near the manger. The manger didn't have a baby in it. It had a crown!
In the treasure box we discovered two special stars.
One star the kids get to hang somewhere in their house to remind them to SHINE LIKE A STAR.
The second tiny star was to remind the kids that Jesus is with us always even if we can't see Him.
More tricky shape activities to finish out the week.
The kids LOVED the challenge of completing these pattern block puzzles.
Our star readers were hard at work putting these stars together to make a sentence.
Each child received their own star.
They flipped it over
and figured out what word they got.
The next step was working as a team to figure out the order of the words.
They loved this challenge!
We ended our short week with a FANTASTIC Friday reader!
The kids sat so quietly
listening to Levi's papa read this great story!
It was the perfect way to end our week!
We can't wait to discover what adventures await us next week...
