What were we cooking up this week for Week of the Young Child?
We started off the week with Musical Monday.
We headed to the Commons for a DANCE PARTY!
We definitely have some great dance moves!
In math we were making up our own rhythm songs. The first person put out the blocks.
The stack of 10 blue blocks meant we played the drums.
The drummer played one loud beat to show 10.
The next person played the maracas for every red block that was sitting out.
Then we hopped right into our musical reading stations.
The kids enjoyed playing a matching Mickey Mouse memory game.
It was tricky! There were words hiding on the back of the pictures!
Another reading game was looking at the musical instrument cards.
Once they flipped them over,
They discovered there was a mixed up sentence on the back.
The kids had to work together to put the sentence together.
Musical instrument hunt kept the kids moving and a shaking.
These instruments had words on them that the kids had to read.
Then they had to mark them off of their word list.
We even snuck outside to play "musical chairs" with hula hoops.
This time when the music stopped, they had to read the word they were sitting near.
In the afternoon, the kids listened and illustrated the story of "Peter and the Wolf".
They did a GREAT job of illustrating the story! They couldn't wait to find out the ending!
We were also busy composing our own song for the bells.
The first person picked out 4 numbers and wrote them down.
The next person had to find those bells.
They handed them to the inspector who checked the bells
and made sure they were in the correct order.
The fourth person played the song!
They made some beautiful music!
Our musical day was complete, but our week was just getting started...
We were ready to order a fantastic day for Tasty Tuesday!
These lovely ladies were cooking up a storm!
We started off our morning with another Masked Reader!
They asked some really good questions before discovering it was...
Mrs. Koenen from the half day preschool classroom!
She read us a hilarious story about a girl who did NOT want to eat her peas!
We sure do LOVE our Masked Readers!
For Jesus Time we had a very special story!
We headed outside to act out the triumphant ride of Jesus into Jerusalem.
The kids waved palm branches and shouted out ...
"Hosanna! Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!"
First we played an alphabet cookie game.
The kids grabbed a bunch of cookies.
Then they had to figure out how to put the letters together to make a word.
They discovered they could switch letters out and make new words.
This group enjoyed playing restaurant!
One person was the customer and ordered some food.
The waiter/waitress had to bring back the items.
The food items had words that they had to read before bringing them back!
When they brought them back,
they had to write down what they ordered.
What a SWEET way to practice reading!
The kids also enjoyed reading words off of food boxes.
They had to see how many words they could write before it was time to rotate.
Then we headed outside for a yummy surprise from KONA ICE!
They each made their own special snow cone! YUMMY!
After reading this great book, we learned a little bit about different types of vegetables. I even brought in a basket of vegetables to show them. They knew all of them except for the rutabaga! :)
Then they had a chance to taste test some vegetables and fruits.
Some of the vegetables they didn't care for,
but everyone was very brave!
Some kids wanted seconds and thirds! :)
The kids had a great time making people and faces with pictures of food!
It definitely helped put a smile upon our faces.
Painting with vegetables was another great activity.
The kids made quite the masterpieces with vegetables!
It was a little messy!
The kids LOVED playing grocery store.
The customer picked out a food item to buy.
Then they had to go to the bank to get the right amount of money.
Then they paid the cashier.
The last person put the item back on the "shelf" for the next customer.
Tasty Tuesday was a SWEET SUCCESS!
Work Together Wednesday brought some very fun outfits to our classroom!
We had some doctors
and police officers too!

We kicked off WORK TOGETHER WEDNESDAY with music class.
Then we headed to chapel, which was led by Student Council.
They did a WONDERFUL job of telling us the story of the Lost Sheep!
Back in the classroom we enjoyed playing some fun games!
Some kids brought in games to share.
I brought in a game that had the kids working together to play a silly version of Tic-Tac-Toe!
First they had to read the word hiding on the monster.
Then they had to strategically place the right color in the right spot.
But be careful someone could cover up your monster to win the game!
YES! We love Game Day!
In the afternoon the kids had to work together to make a picture.
They took turns drawing on their side of the paper.
They also had a chance to head down to the gym.
Working together was tricky for this game.
In order to get the ball to go up to the ceiling,
they had to time it just right!
The kids LOVED this game!
The kids got to work creating their painting tool.
It was a little bit of a challenge.
They did a great job of sharing and working together.
The next step was testing out their painting tool.
The tool didn't always work the way they planned. :)
However, they had a great time working together to create a work of art.
We definitely loved our ISH paintings!
The kids were SO thankful for a fun Work Together Wednesday! We might just have to do it again!
A colorful explosion popped into our room for ARTSY Thursday!
Everybody wore their favorite color for Artsy Thursday.
For math the kids had to sort a bunch of crayons into piles.
They had to sort the piles into groups of tens.
Then they counted up the leftovers to figure out how many crayons they had all together.
the kids got to work making their very own Elmers.
They also went around the room reading words with paint brushes for their pointers.
In the afternoon we had a surprise visit from Mr. Debrick!
He came to help paint our feet!
Boy do we have some very ticklish kindergartners! :)
I just LOVED hearing their giggles!
After painting their feet,
a friend had a chance to "serve one another in love".
They washed and dried each other's feet.
What a very special memory we made!
Family Friday arrived!
We had some moms show up.
Some brothers.
Some dads too!
Even a sister and a pet cat!
First we played a flower game by starting out as a seed.
Dancing like a root.
Shooting up like a stem.
Showing off our leaves.
Or dancing like a flower!
In the afternoon we mailed some very special letters!
We walked all the way to the giant mailbox in front of school.
We mailed some special letters to our grandparents.
We sent them with a hug and a prayer!
Back in the classroom we were busy creating flowers.
We even painted some flowers in the style of Georgia O'Keefe!
Our day was not complete until our FANTASTIC Friday reader showed up!
She read a HILARIOUS book that didn't have any pictures!
The kids could not stop laughing!!!
Another great way to end our "FUN"TASTIC week!
We will be back next week...STAY TUNED!
