This week definitely gave us a lot to cheer about!
We kicked off the week working with spheres.
We used these spheres (a.k.a. ping pong balls) to do a little spelling.
The orange spheres were the vowels. The kids had to figure out which vowel helped them make the right word.
We took some spheres outside
to play a little bit of four square with our popcorn words.
Mrs. Collins called out a popcorn word.
If the kids had that word, they dribbled their ball on that word.
The kids worked hard to practice their teen numbers this week.
They carefully stacked up blocks to show a teen number.
Then we used a sphere to bowl over the "extra" blocks.

These spheres helped us make beautiful pictures.
Check out this HALL OF FAME group in our hallway!
We tossed these "word spheres" into the buckets.
We were so excited when we got it in the bucket!
Our fun with spheres continued as we celebrated BASEBALL DAY!
This baseball game had us grinning from ear to ear.
The kids picked out a card
and read the word on their card.
Sometimes it was a good card,
like a home run!
Oops! Sometimes they got strikes.
Good thing we got three of them before we were out!
A little hat game had the kids guessing where the letters were hiding.
Once they found the ball, they had to match it up to the right glove.
We were on our feet
racing to our teen numbers!
If they had the highest teen number, they were the winner!
The kids LOVED playing this game!
Watch out! We have quite the competitors in this class!
Another game that had us up and moving was a fun spelling game.
They raced around the bases as they spelled their word.
HOME RUN every time!
Check out these baseball poses.
Each kid created their own baseball card.
To end our day we headed outside to have a little batting practice.
The kids also enjoyed designing their own baseball stadiums.
I think we have some future architects in this group!
Hip Hip HOORAY! It was a great day at the ballpark!
We also were busy talking about seeds and flowers this week.
The kids had fun at this "flower shop".
They picked out what seed they wanted to buy.
The banker gave them some money to spend.
Then they paid the cashier.
The cashier had to write down how much money they received.
The kids also got a little creative with flowers.
They used pattern blocks to create some flower gardens.
We also got a little messy making "seed bombs".
The kids mixed up the pulp first. It was a little squishy!
Then they picked out what seeds they wanted.
They weren't quite sure about mixing in the seeds.
We are hoping our little seed bombs grow into some beautiful flowers.
These special flowers helped us make some words.
We spun the center of the flower to see what word we created.
We were also busy "growing" some flowers.
We pulled out a card from the pot.
We were excited to see what words we got!
We also had fun being flower fairies.
The flower fairy delivered a popcorn word.
The kids had to make that word GROW!
The flower fairy made sure the words were spelled correctly.
Mrs. Helmkamp led our chapel this week.
She reminded us that Easter lasts for 40 days.
She showed us some Easter eggs that reminded us of the special surprise on Easter. Ask your child about the empty egg we opened in our classroom too! :)
We also enjoyed celebrating Mrs. Collin's birthday! HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
These kids were ready to fly through the rest of the week as they set up an "airplane" in our classroom.
The flight attendant even went around and took food orders!
We were trying to get all our ducks in a row to end the week.
The kids looked under the different ducks to find words.
They were trying to find words that had "u" in the middle of them.
If they didn't,
they had to act like a a duck.
If they did get a word with a "u" in the middle,
they got a point!
YAY!
The kids LOVED playing this silly version of Duck, Duck, Goose.
They had to read the nonsense word.
But if they got a goose, they had to run around and act like a duck!
We have some great ducks in this class!
Mrs. Helmkamp was back with these special spheres called SPHEROS!
The kids learned how to control the sphero.
Some kids asked if we could use these EVERY day!
In second grade they will learn how to program the spheros and make them move all by themselves!
These little duckies helped us put some sentences together.
These little ducks got lost
They had to roll a letter and then act out something that started with that letter.
Can you guess what they are?
There was nothing to cry about this week!
We'll see what gets thrown at us next week!
