Red Ribbon Week Adventures

YAY!  What a great week we had!

We were working hard this week
talking about how to take care of the amazing bodies God gave to us.

We created this special pumpkin patch.  Each kid thought of one thing they could do to take care of their body, and we put it on the pumpkin leaf.

Monday we were talking about exercising and staying fit.

We were busy jumping our way through the alphabet.

Every letter they landed on the kids had to say its' name and the sound it makes.

The kids loved setting up this mini obstacle course.
We kept moving and shaking all day long...

The kids had to roll the dice to see how many exercises they had to do.

They were working hard
but still had time to stop and smile.
Some pumpkins also popped up in our classroom.

Each kid picked out their very own pumpkin.

Thank you Mr. Debrick for picking out such beautiful pumpkins for us!

They each came up with a sentence to describe their pumpkin.

Then they set to work trying to paint their pumpkin.
They did a great job of creating their pumpkin picture.

Tuesday we voted to all wear the color blue.

Mr. Debrick led our chapel this week.

He told us a story about a man picking up starfish and throwing them back into the ocean, saving one at a time.  It was a reminder that with God all things are possible!

We had a very special offering this week.

Over 400 toys were given to Friends of Kids with Cancer.  Thank you SO much for your generosity!

Our student council stopped by after chapel and led us in  a few exercises.

They reminded us to take care of our bodies and stay healthy.
We also talked about fire safety this week.

These little firefighters had to find the right helmets before heading to the right house.
Then as they sprayed the fire out they said the sound of the letter on their firefighter.

These firetrucks helped us travel to the right letter.

The next round was a challenge.

One friend picked out a letter.

The next friend had to find a picture that started with that letter.
Another friend said the sound of the letter.

The kids did a great job with this activity and LOVED it!

We even had a "fire inspector"  giving his approval.

In math we were matching up hats to firetrucks.

We lined them up with hoses to see what we had more of.

We are so thankful for firefighters!

Wednesday was a SUPER day!
We used our super powers in gym

to keep our body fit

and active as we played spider tag.
Mrs. Coad surprised us with her Wonder Woman powers in music class.
We used our SPIDEY senses

as we tiptoed through the "web" to pick up letters.

Then we put the letters together to make words.
Back in the classroom we had to pick up the spiders hiding in their web

using tongs.
Once we caught one we had to put it on the letter to match the letter dice we rolled.
More spider fun helped us with our math.

We rolled the dice and put that many black spiders on the spout.
Then we rolled again to see how many oranges spiders we added to the spout.

It was NOT scary trying to figure out which color we had more of!
We also worked on the nursery rhyme "Itsy Bitsy Spider".
The kids had a blast making their own water spouts.

It definitely was a SUPER day!
Thursday we finally got to show off our colorful tie-dyed creations!

Even the ones that were similar,
were still very unique!  I LOVED all of them!

Mrs. Aslin's kindergartners were our twins too!
Our colorful shirts inspired us to read this GREAT book called The Color Monster.

We used our special magnetic wands
to match the letter monsters
up with their monster friend who was holding up a picture.

We also worked hard in math to make sure the monsters got fed!
We had to put a piece of food for the monsters in a ten frame.
We had to see which silly monster had the most food.

We were also busy creating our own monsters.

Some of them looked friendly...

Some of them were pretty scary looking!

Another monster book called Monsters Love Colors, taught us how to mix colors.
After drawing an outline of a monster, the kids set to work blowing paint to mix it together.

It took our breath away

to make these scary monsters!

Spirit Day rounded out our week!

Mr. Marolf joined us and read to us his favorite monster book...

Where the Wild Things Are.

Then he gave us a great challenge... we had to ROAR our terrible roars.

But when he said "BE STILL", we had to be perfectly silent and calm.
He might be back again later in the year to practice this with us.   :)
Because it was SPIRIT DAY...

we were busy cheering our way through the alphabet!

Every child had a chance to be the CHEER leader.

We've got spirit yes we do. We've got spirit how about you?!!!

More monster fun popped up as we practiced measuring some silly monsters.

We used linking cubes, paper clips, and teddy bears to measure them.
We also had a very HUNGRY monster show up!

He kept trying to bite the kids' fingers

as they fed him letters!

SOOO many giggles and smiles.  They LOVED this monster game!

Some SLIMEY monsters showed up to help us with our adding!

We had to roll the dice and add some eyeballs to our monsters.
The kids are hoping these slimy monsters come back again soon!

This will be a hard week to top...

but we will do our best to make sure it jammed packed full of adventures!
