Week of the Young Child.

We weren't just sitting around this week...
We were all ready to celebrate being kids!

We kicked off the week with some SILLY SOCKS!

It was also Music Monday...

So I borrowed Mrs. Rouland's record player.
The kids were AMAZED at how it worked!

This geared us up for Tuesday...
as we listened to a concert by the choir from Lutheran High.

We also headed out on a plant hunt.

The kids kept tally marks of all the plants they found.

They couldn't believe how many plants they found at Zion!
It was a beautiful day for a plant hunt!
It was also a beautiful day to go visit out Prayers Pals!
They were very excited to see us.

And we were excited to see them too!

Some of the kids even made some new friends!

We even found a Cardinal fan amongst the group.

What special friends we have made throughout the year.
After lunch we were able to visit with some of the 6th graders to see how many bottle caps they have collected.

Some kindergartners purchased water to help the 6th graders out.
It was also Tasty Tuesday.  Soo...

of course we had to make a cake!

It was a special cake called "PUDDLE CAKE"!

We made lots of little puddles in the dry ingredients,

before stirring it all up.
We made our own words...
while we waited for our cake to bake.

We also worked on painting flowers Georgia O'Keefe style AND

worked on making a few flower gardens.

FINALLY the cake was done.

SWEET SUCCESS!

SPIRIT DAY brought lots to cheer about!

We also had a lot of fun learning about vegetables
as we painted with vegetables and
drew vegetables.

Mrs. Boettcher (one of our school cooks) even stopped by.

She knows a lot about plants and flowers.

She showed us some very interesting things!

We LOVE our school cooks!

Finally it was time to taste test those veggies!
The kids were very brave and tried some new yummy veggies!
Thursday brought in some WACKY adventures!

We were using our creative imaginations...

to design
and create.
We were also busy painting.
We painted Jackson Pollock style...
and got a little bit messy.
Even Mr. Debrick joined in on the fun!

The kids also used teamwork...

 to create giant murals.

They were inspired by the story Sky Color by Peter H. Reynalds.
They made quite the masterpieces.

We were a little tired by Friday, but

HAVE NO FEAR... more fun appeared!

Pajama Day was a great way to end our week.
We kicked off the day by heading down to the office.

We led the whole school in prayer over the intercom.

Each kindergartner had a buddy that they wrote a part of the prayer with.

They both said their part together in the "microphone".

They did such a great job!

It was a great way
to start the day!

It was not a great day to let our butterflies go, but we just couldn't keep them cooped up any longer.

We let them out, but they didn't want to fly away.
We waited
and waited.

FINALLY one of them flew away.  We hope the other two did too!
X marks the spot of some fun pirates
as we learned about the -ar chunk!

But some kids did have to walk the plank!

We finished the day with a treasure hunt.
They finally found where X marks the spot!
They discovered they were the treasure the whole time.
X marks the spot of some WONDERFUL kindergartners!
