We had SEW much fun this week! Check out our week...
We started off our week talking about quilts. This was the perfect book to remind us that God is ALWAYS with us! My mom gave it me when I first started teaching and it has become a favorite of my own children. If your child is having bad dreams, this is a GREAT book!
Out in the hallway we went on a quilt hunt.
They went looking for the words hiding on the different quilts.
The kids also worked together to make a "patchwork quilt" out of sight word tangrams.
They took turns racing to get a tangram and putting it together with their teammates'.
TA DA! A patchwork of learning put together with smiles!
We weren't laying down on the job in the afternoon,
We were stitching together more learning adventures.
A special lady, we lovingly call Nanny, came to talk to the kids about her amazing talent of sewing. You can see her kindness woven into every quilt she makes.
Nanny uses her talent to sew quilts for an orphanage in Romania!
Then the kindergartners each had a turn to learn how to sew with Nanny!
First they picked out the squares they wanted.
Next they got to work sewing each piece carefully together with Nanny's help.
They were very proud of their little blankets!
The kids LOVED meeting Nanny! Nanny even left us a little gift... a quilt of our very own!
Tuesday we were back in action with some more sewing activities.
In the hallway, were were busy looking for strings.
Back in the classroom our quilt squares were back.
This time they picked a "quilt" and read the word to their team.
The rest of the team had to try to spell the word without looking.
To celebrate Cinco de Mayo day, Mrs. Martin was back to teach us some more Spanish!
This time she brought the book Brown Bear Brown Bear.
The kids had a blast learning their colors and their animals in Spanish!
Miss Steinbacher also came to help us learn our memory verse.
The kids each picked a card that had a different language on it, but the words all said the same thing..."JESUS LOVES YOU!"
Then they tossed a bean bag to that country as they said their memory verse.
To end our day we had a some special readers to celebrate Addison's birthday.
They had a fun book to share about conquering your fears!
It was a great way to end our day!
Wednesday Mrs. Crumrine had the kids ROCKING!
She taught the kids a dance to "We Will Rock You!"
The kids definitely ROCKED it!
Next up...Mrs. Helmkamp led chapel with caterpillars??? Yes, caterpillars!
AND butterflies!
She compared the tomb to a cocoon and Jesus rising again like a butterfly!
There were a few familiar faces we had to say hi to on our way out the door!
Before talking about maps... it was time to WALK THE PLANK!
First one pirate hid their treasure.
Another pirate tried to steal the treasure, but they could only take the dimes.
It got a little tricky avoiding the pennies.
Some pirates almost got eaten by the sharks!
For reading stations the kids were searching in the treasure box for words.
The kids took turns covering up the words with their gold coins.
Then they had a GREAT time having a sword fight!
They took turns spelling their heart words as the hit each other's swords.
In the afternoon, we went on a special treasure hunt!
If it was an even number, it had an X by it.
We finished the day with another great reader!
Silas' mom came and read to us a HILARIOUS book by our illustrator of the month!
X marks the spot of a GREAT day!
Thursday some 8th graders came and helped build a ship for our Jesus time story.
Each team had a box and a few other loose parts they could use to build their ship story.
The Jesus time story was the story of Paul getting shipwrecked.
They did a great job of building together!
Our day officially began when we found this book hiding under our "mailbox".
We then knew we would be doing A LOT of fun adventures with boxes!!!
The kids enjoyed hunting for words on boxes.
There were words on each item that they had to read and write down before they could build with it.
The kids also built words with boxes.
To top that off a GIANT box appeared in our room.
The kids lit up with excitement as they turned the giant box into a heart word masterpiece.
But they couldn't wait to get inside!
In the afternoon our WONDERFUL Nurse Connie stopped by to talk about her job as a school nurse.
The kids then surprised her with some cards they had made!
She was so excited!
I hope we brightened her day as much as she always brightens ours!
We finished the day. by measuring our boxes.
Our week wasn't quite done...
We ZOOMED right into Friday with a little tee-ball in gym class.

For math we were back in action with our boxes.
First the kids had to work to together to measure each of the boxes on their table.
Then they had to put the boxes in order from tallest to shortest.
The kids worked together to put these boxes together to make sentences.
The kids finally had their chance to get inside the giant box!
A giant box is the perfect place to read.
After lunch we headed to Julia's pajama party!
Each kiddo made her a special card. They did an AMAZING job!
Julia was SOOO excited to celebrate with us!
We finished our box adventures by getting a chance to build with boxes.
This group built Noah's ark!
Look what else we created with tiny boxes.
To end our busy week, Mila's mom stopped by to be our fabulous Friday Reader!

The kids were such great listeners we had time for two books!
We LOVE it when Friday Readers end our day!
