Week of the Young Child

Take a peek into our busy AND exciting week!

We kicked off the Week of the Young Child with Musical Monday!

For our special Easter celebration, we headed outside.

Lots of singing and dancing brightened our celebration.

He is reason indeed!  ALLELUIA!

Then we took off to look for an egg.  It was an empty egg!

We turned the empty egg into a music shaker!
More musical adventures popped up in our classroom.

We were busy painting to music!

The kids LOVED painting to the beat of the classical music tunes.

Musical instruments also helped us doing a little reading.

Once they found the word hiding on the instrument,

they played each sound in the word.
We even snuck back outside to play musical chairs with our heart words.
In the afternoon, our Masked Reader stopped by.
The kids guessed right away that it was Mrs. Crumrine!  :)

She read to us one of her favorite books from when she was a kid.

When she was done reading, she showed them her special hat. Someone made it for her!

What a great visitor for Musical Monday.
Next up the kids made up their own song using the bells.

One friend picked out  4 teen numbers.
Another friend had to find the bells that matched those numbers.

Then it was time to hear their song!
We ended the day by listening to part of the story "Peter and the Wolf".

The kid listened to the instruments telling the story.

They illustrated the story as they listened to the music.

Musical Monday ROCKED!

Tuesday was... TASTY TUESDAY!

The kids were cooking up all kinds of fun!

To start off our day, we headed over to church to see our Prayer Pals.

I just love watching the friendships with these special people bloom.

Sometimes they even see each other at church.
We can't wait to see them again soon!

More tasty adventures appeared back in our classroom.

The kids were excited to use the ice cream cones to build words.

As they said the letter sound they put on a scoop of ice cream.
They were also excited to feed "the old lady" again!
Watch out!  She just might nibble on your finger!!!

A special visitor arrived in the afternoon for a cooking show!
It was Miss Julia... Mrs. Reed's cousin.

The kids helped add 2 cups of yellow water and 2 cups of blue water to make...

green water!

We also enjoyed a little fun at our grocery store.

To finish off Tasty Tuesday, we had some popsicles on the playground!  What a yummy day!

Check out WORK TOGETHER WEDNESDAY!   What do we want to be when we grow up...

We were also busy learinng about butterflies...
The kids had to work together to create the stages of a butterfly using pattern blocks.

Then we got our game faces on!
The kids had a blast playing each other's games.

They even played a silly tic tac toe game against me!

These little monster game pieces had words attached to them.
Game time is a GREAT time!
In the afternoon, we headed to the gym to play a little ball with some fun 8th graders!

Playing catch kept us busy.

The kids did a GREAT job of hitting.

Who knew princesses were so good at baseball!

It was hard to say good-bye to our new friends.

We hope to see our new buddies again!
High-five for a wonderful WORK TOGETHER WEDNESDAY!

Artsy Thursday was next on our agenda.

After reading this wonderful book,

We used some glittery paint to write our names.

The kids also worked together to put together some colorful sentences.

Next up was going on a colorful heart hunt.

They got to use paint brushes as their pointers!

This beautiful book by our illustrator of the month,

inspired us to create our own murals.

Each team had to come up with a scene they wanted to paint.

Then they each painted a part of the scene.

They turned into some beautiful masterpieces!

We also made these special "ISH" painting using yarn as our paint brushes.

The kids loved how they turned out.

We can't wait to hang them in our gallery.

Friday was Family Friday.  We dressed like people in our family!
First up we headed to the gym to act out the Easter story with the parachute.

We ran to the tomb.

We created the tomb.

The tomb was empty!

Next we pretended to be Peter and John and take a peek inside the tomb.

He is risen indeed! Alleluia!

Next up... we had an amazing visitor stop by to do magic tricks!

His name is Mr. Taps.

He did lots of amazing tricks that kept us on our toys and smiling from ear to ear.

Sam even got to do a trick with Mr. Taps!

We had a great time with Mr. Taps... "SHIM SHAM SHIMMY!"
Back in the classroom we were hard at work making homes for our families.

Such great teamwork!

This book had the kids laughing and begging for more stories...
Then these little visitors showed up!  Look carefully...
We now have some impatient caterpillars of our own!
Watch out!  We are making some butterfly adventures!

We worked together to make a sight word caterpillar.

Next they spun the cocoon around...

and out popped a little caterpillar to read.

At another station they helped the butterflies find the right heart words.
We can't wait for our real butterflies to appear!

Mrs. Helmkamp also stopped by to read to us some HILARIOUS books!

We ended our time with her by reading AND singing... MAY THERE ALWAY BE

Then it was time to get sneaky...

We put on our new "KINDNESS NINJA" headbands and snuck up on the cooks.

We delivered some beautiful cards and pictures and gave them some special flowers.

Kindness Mission COMPLETE!
For our next mission we headed outside to the...

mailbox!

We mailed some very special cards to some very special people!

We can't wait for them to be delivered!

Our busy Family Friday ended with the perfect Friday Reader.
Calvin's Papa came and read to us the story of the Magic Fish.

YAY!  What a great day.

Thanks for stopping by!

We can't wait to see what adventures are around the corner next week!
