We had a beautiful week to enjoy some our senses!
We flew right into our week with Mrs. Jennings.
The kids LOVED playing turtle tag!
After talking about our sense of touch, the kids couldn't use their hands to touch the alphabet cubes.
They used some tricky tweezers to pick up the alphabet cubes
and put them on the right spot on their chart.
The kindergartners did get to use their hands to touch different types of magnets.
Some friends sorted the magnetic letters.
While others used the soft magnets to build creations. This is a church! The kids discovered the letter t could a be cross! :)
For Jesus Time we were discussing how God made land animals.
SOOO...not only were we looking at different animals,
we were also using our sense of touch to feel the animals!
The kids loved feeling the different textures of the animals.
Next we practiced sorting animals. Some made graphs.
While others sorted them on the trays.
The kids also enjoyed creating homes for some animals.
These boys found ways to sort the animals into separate cages.
the kids practiced creating textures of their own.
They got a little messy,
but they made some magnificent masterpieces!
Tuesday started off with lots of creative building!
Look how long these SNAP-O BLOCKS stretched!
Tuesday was also a very special day for us...
It was a our 10th day of school already!
The kids opened a special treasure box and discovered it was...
ZERO HERO DAY!
The kids enjoyed playing a special math game.
Some friends hid the super heroes.
We had to make a checklist of which super heroes were present.
From there we figured out how many were missing.
We were also busy using our sense of sight as we played this matching game.
The kids had to pick up a letter and says it's name.
Then they had to search for it's matching letter.
Another reading station, I was calling out letter sounds.
If they had that letter "pow", they had to stomp on it with their super hero.
We also ventured outside to look for some super hero letters.
Once the kids found the letters,
They marked it off on their papers.
In the afternoon, we read this GREAT book about making SUPER choices. If you have never read it, check it out. The public library has a couple of different versions as well as one about a girl named Darla too! It is a great reminder for kids that they have the power to choose how their day is going to go.
The kids enjoyed playing this super hero math game in the afternoon too.
First they picked a super hero number.
Each number turned into "shields" for building mighty creations!
Some made long chains.
While others had different ideas.
The kids also had a blast playing the missing super hero game on their own.
This time they hid the super heroes under a cape!
They each had to write down how many superheroes were present and how many were missing.
It definitely was a super ZERO HERO day!
Wednesday we headed over to Mrs. Crumrine's music class.
We were excited to use our sense of hearing and learn a new dance.
They also had fun learning a new song and making up silly words!
Back in the classroom a new set of tweezers showed up.

This time we were using them to pick up attribute blocks and tiny letters.
The trick was getting them to stand.
AND we couldn't make a sound when we did it!
This group was making some noise as they had special hand clappers...
to clap out the syllables.
They also got to use instruments to play this alphabet game.
I called out a letter sound. If they had that letter,
They got to play their instrument!
They LOVED this game!
The kids also enjoyed creating letters with clay.
They had to roll the dice to see which letter to create.
We were back to work on Thursday to finish out the week.
We started out our day having chapel in the Commons.
Mrs. Helmkamp led our chapel.
We love singing our song of the month...
BE STRONG AND COURAGEOUS!
Mrs. Helmkamp talked about how a rope can be used to rescue a person.
The Bible is our rescue story!
When you hold a rope straight up, it is a reminder that God rescues us as it points up to heaven!
Back in the classroom, the kids enjoyed using their sense of "taste" and pretending to be at restaurant.
The mixed up chef delivered the wrong amount of food to the bowls. We had to figure how much food was missing!
For our reading stations, we were serving up alphabet cubes.
First they delivered cubes to their friends' bowls.
Their friend had to write the letter that was delivered to their bowl.
This little puppet was HUNGRY for some letters!
She called out a letter sound.
If the kids had that letter,
they had to feed the puppet!
They had to be careful that she didn't eat the alphabet cookie
AND their fingers too!
The kids LOVED this game!
Their laughter filled the classroom!
The kids begged to keep playing more!
They also had a blast playing the restaurant game on their own.
One friend closed their eyes.,
while the mixed-up chef secretly delivered some food to the waitress or waiter.
Once the waiter delivered the food. They called out...
The customer had to write down how much food they got.
They wanted to play restaurant ALL day!
We sure loved working with our sense of taste!
It was definitely a "SENSE"-SATIONAL week of adventures!
