A Worry-Free Week!

You will never believe the week we had!

In math we were very busy working on numbers and subtizing.

The kids had to quickly raise their hand to show how many dots there were.

We have arrived at CAMP LEARN-A-LOT as we start working hard on our reading skills.

At this reading station the kids took turns picking up a camping card.
Whatever card they picked up,
the kids had to write down the beginning sound to match.

They had to be really careful not to pick up the snake!

The kids also had a chance to go fishing for letters.

After picking up a capital letter,

they had to find the lowercase letter that matched.

Then they swam back to the group and wrote the letter down.

The kids also enjoyed creating their own camping sites.

I loved hearing the stories that went with their creations.

This is a dinosaur campsite in outer space!

In the afternoon we were back working on our numbers

After rolling the dice,

the kids arranged that many magnetic dots on their tray.

Then they practiced writing that number.

The kids were also busy with this number fishing game.

In this simple game, the kids were learning how to take turns and learning to encourage each other.

The also worked hard to put the fish numbers in order from smallest to largest.

Wednesday we were back in music class with Mrs. Crumrine.

The kids practiced using different voices.

Then we headed to chapel.

Mrs. Kuhlmann led our chapel and retold the creation story in a very special way.  Make sure to look for the creation banners hanging up in church.

We also got to celebrate two baptismal birthdays!

Back in the classroom we were busy working on our sense of smell.

The kids loved using the SMELLY markers

and trying to guess the smell of each marker.

The kids also enjoyed using some smelly playdoh to make letters.

Then each child picked out a smelly sticker.

They had to describe what it smelled like.

Then they "wrote" a story about their sticker.

More fun smelly activities took place in the afternoon!

One activity the kids enjoyed  was using our smelly jars.

The kids tried to guess what they were smelling.
It wasn't always easy to figure out!

Some of the smells the kids were not too excited about.

Some smells even made the kids laugh!

Of course there were some smells the kids LOVED!

We were also excited for Ms. Steinbacher to come join us and help us practice our memory verse.
I hope they had a chance to share their card with you!

We also read this wonderful book about a mouse that was full of worries!

We practiced our best worried faces.

Then we painted a background like the cover of Wemberly Worried.
They worked hard to make lots of rings!

Thumbs up for a SENSE-sational day!

Lots of teamwork took place Thursday morning!

The kids worked on hard to make some amazing creations!

The kids were so impressed with this book of the nature alphabet!
Sooo... we went on a little hike looking for letters hiding in nature.

They LOVED discovering all kinds of letters in sticks, tree trunks, etc.

They found the shape of the letter U on this tree trunk!

Back in the classroom, we were having a blast playing this math game.

We rolled the dice twice to see which number was the greatest.

Whichever number was the greatest, we practiced sky writing.

The kids loved this game so much, I gave each child their own dice to practice with on their own.  They were having so much fun, they didn't want to stop!
For one of our reading stations the kids headed back outside.
This time they had the challenge of working with their team to find certain letters.

Can you tell what letter this is?

This group found the letter X!  Do you see it too?
Another group was hard at work making name puzzles.

Some kids had really long names to figure out!

Then they switched with a friend and tried to figure out their puzzle too.

They were SO proud of themselves when they put these challenging puzzles together!

In the afternoon, we got a little messy!

The kids were busy painting their memory verse.

Every verse we do, there will be an art project that goes with it.

At the end of the year they will have a whole binder full of their memory verses!

The kids also enjoyed practicing their numbers by playing bingo!

Once they had four in a row they whispered...

BINGO!

Friday we were back in the gym with Mrs. Jennings!

Another fun game of turtle tag!

Even Mrs. Jennings played!

Back in the classroom it was time for our Friday dance party!

Those air hugs make them smile every time!  :)

In math we were exploring with a new math tool...LINKING CUBES!

The kids made some very unique creations with the cubes!

Look a dinosaur!

A cross!

We even figured out how to make letters!

One of our reading stations was working with these "camping logs".
If I called out a word that started with the letter on their log, they held it up.

The bonus round they had to roll their log to me as we said the sound together.

We also read this book about a mouse who "constructs" every letter in the alphabet.

SOOOO... we headed outside and used our imagination and some "loose parts" to construct some letters.

Silas used feathers to construct the letter C.

In the afternoon we read this hilarious book to remind us how much glue to use!

They had a BLAST using TOO MUCH GLUE to make these sticky masterpieces.

They really had to squeeze hard to get the glue to make a puddle.

Then they got to work decorating their person with a variety of items.

I'm hoping their puddles of glue dry by Monday!  :)
WOW!  What a week!

NO WORRIES...
We will see you soon!  :)
