LEAPING into a Great Week!

Take a peek into this exciting week!
We love to use our morning free time to build and create!

It was MONKEY MONDAY and this great book got us working on our subtraction.

One friend put the monkeys in the tree.

The next friend subtracted some monkeys from the tree.

The rest of the class had to figure out the number sentence.

These may look like regular monkeys just hanging out...

but they had words hiding on them.

The team had to work together
to put the monkeys in order to make a sentence.

We also got shakin' making some yummy MONKEY BREAD!

They each grabbed 5 chunks of bread dough.

Then they dropped them in the cinnamon and sugar.

They had to zip it up tight and shake, shake, shake!

We used monkeys in a barrel to help us do some reading.

The kids used the monkeys to pick up as many words as they could.

The sunshiny day made it a perfect day for a yummy birthday treat!

Then it was time to enjoy some monkey bread!

It was soooo YUMMY!

We ended our day with a special birthday reader!

To celebrate Luke's birthday, his parents came and read a special book.

It was a great way to end MONKEY MONDAY!

Check out what we were up to on Tuesday...

Ms. Steinbacher led our chapel this week as she pretended to travel around the world.

She wanted to take God's love with her but it wouldn't fit in a box, a bag, or a jar.

His love would come a bubblin' through!

This counting book about some sneaky mice

Helped us with our subtraction.

We subtracted the "mice" from the jar and tried to balance them.

The kids also enjoyed playing MOUSE TRAP.
They had to read the word on their mouse card.

If they got a "cat" they had to quickly cover up their mouse before it got eaten.

The kids also had fun being mouse magicians.

In the afternoon the kids were hard at work making mouse mazes.
Once they built their maze
They used the magnetic wand to take the mouse for a ride!

We shuffled our way to Wednesday!

We kicked off our unit on basketball

by learning how to do a chest pass.

Next week we will move on to the bounce pass.

We added a tricky little twist to mouse memory.

The kids had to match words instead of pictures.

It was such intense competition we could hardly watch!

The kids LOVED cheering for each other to find matches.

We also were busy reading people.

The next challenge was to find two words that rhymed.

After reading this familiar book

we got to work making letter cookies.

The cards were our "recipe" so we knew what type of cookie to make!

These subtraction cups helped us hide our mice.

We figured out the number sentence
by using our linking cubes.

Then we found the mouse that had the correct answer on it.

The final step was to use the magnetic wand to pick up the mouse that had the matching amount of dots.

After reading Mouse Paint

our fingers worked to make all the colors of the rainbow,

We were leaping for joy to celebrate this special day!

We warmed up our bodies by testing out our frog jumping skills.

We had ten seconds to see how far we could jump without bumping into anything or anyone.

It took a lot of self-control but the kids did great!

The kids did a great job of playing LEAP FROG.

They took turns jumping over letters.

When they blended the letters together they had to figure out what word they made!

These little lily pads were missing their puzzled frogs.

The kids had to match up the frogs to make a word.

Sometimes the frogs looked a little wacky!

The kids also enjoyed a LEAP YEAR obstacle course

as they leaped over obstacles and letters too!

YAY!  We loved having frog jumping races.

The kids rolled the dice to see how many frogs got to play.

Then it was time for the frogs to jump.

If the frogs missed the "pond", they got subtracted.
6 frogs - 2 frogs = 4 frogs on the pond.

YAY!  The kids LOVED this game.

At recess, we practiced more leaping!

Instead of playing Go Fish, we played GO FROG!

We ended the day with a little fireworks!

We hope these memories last another 4 years!
Another special day to end our week... READ ACROSS AMERICA!

The old lady was back to help us with our rhyming adventures.

The kids have been working hard all week to make their own story books... be looking for them soon!
After reading HOP on POP,

we didn't hop with my pop, but we did hop with my mom!

The kids hopped to each letter to figure out a word.

The kids even worked hard to challenge their friends to figure out their word.

Then they hopped back through the hoops to see what nonsense word they made.

Cat in the Hat left behind his hats.

Thing One and Thing Two were busy subtracting the hats.

The kids worked together to figure out the number sentence.

We ended the day by starting our LION project.

The day began like a lion but it definitely finished like a lamb.

We are excited to see what adventures we jump into next week!
