Brace yourself... it was one WILD week of adventures!
We started off math with turkeys that escaped from the farm!
If you captured a turkey, you had to bring it back to the farm.
We needed to make sure we had 9 turkeys back at the farm. The class worked together to figure out how many more turkeys we were missing.
We used our magnetic wand to pick up these turkeys.
Then the kids brought it back to their group.
They worked together to find the rhyming turkey buddy.
Another fun activity was unlocking beginning sounds.
The key had a picture on it. The lock had a letter on it.
If they matched the right beginning sound to the picture, the key unlocked the lock!
More turkey adventures showed up in the afternoon.
The kids enjoyed the challenge of making a turkey out of pattern blocks.
The also LOVED the game "turkey squeeze".
I had a numbered turkey that was "hiding" on the number line.
The kids had to guess where I was at on the number line by asking questions.
Is your turkey greater than five?
Then they "squeezed the numbers" by moving their leaves closer together.
They finally squeezed the numbers until they figured out what number my turkey was!
We had a very special chapel offering on Tuesday.
Thank you SO much for your generosity!
The table was overflowing with canned goods for the seminary families!
Mrs. Helmkamp led our chapel on thanksgiving and ways we can show we are thankful.
Some wild turkey hunters showed up in our classroom.
These special turkey glasses helped us look for our lost turkeys.
The hunters ventured out in the hallway to look for some turkey letters.
They had to pick out a picture
and then find the turkey letter that matched the beginning sound.
Then they wrote down the letter that each picture started with.
We caught a lot of turkeys!
Mrs. Donner came in and helped the kids make turkey traps!
They each had a very clever way of creating their own traps!
Maybe you can have them help you catch your thanksgiving dinner! :)
The kids had fun with this turkey tossing game as we worked to add up to six.
One friend tossed the turkeys back to their cages. Then we combined how many were in and how many were out to get to six.
YAY! Get those turkeys in their cages!
In this fun game the turkeys needed 6 feathers.
First the kids rolled the dice and put that many feathers on their turkey.
Then they had to figure out how many more they needed to make six.
Wednesday we were back in the gym for WORLD SPORTS STACKING DAY!
We quickly reviewed and warmed up our hands.
Then it was time for our relay race.
The kids were on the move!
At the end they grabbed a BIG stacking up!
They worked together to make a giant wall!
The birthday girl put the last one on top!

Later we came back to watch the 5th graders do stacking cups.
They were SO fast!
In music class we used the bells for the first time!
They did a great job of learning this new skill!
Back in the classroom we were using muffin tins to help spell words.
They did so great being "WORD WIZARDS"
and switching letters around to make new words!
The magnetic turkeys were back!
This time whatever turkey they caught they had to write the beginning and ending sound their plate.
It was so nice outside, after lunch we went for a run around the soccer field.
The kids loved chasing each other around the field!
They were all worn out when they were done.
They begged to run another lap. :)
We read this story which compared the ways of the Wampanoag to the Pilgrims. Then we discovered the children did some of the same things kindergartners do!
We then began working on our Native American headbands.
Each child chose a pattern they wanted to create.
They used different shape stamps to create their pattern.
The kids also worked hard to create different styles of homes.
Miss Steinbacher was back to help us with our memory verse.
She brought some cups that had words on them.
The kids built their memory verse.
The kids had a BLAST with this special activity.
Another great day headed our way...
We had an amazing Jesus time as we acted out the story of Joshua and the battle of Jericho.
We marched our way to Jericho with the arc of the covenant leading the way.
The kids got a little tired of marching around the city. :)
They finally made it to lap number 7. The kids yelled and blasted their trumpets!
The walls came tumbling down (with the help of some wonderful 4th graders!).
The kids were SURPRISED to see the walls come down!
A huge thank you to the 4th graders for their help!
A yummy math lesson helped us with our adding.
Goldfish crackers and cheerios helped us practice making 6, 8, and 9.
We tried out different combinations to get those numbers.
The kids had fun finding friends who thought of the same numbers as them!
Then we moved on to making some playdoh pie letters.
They picked out a turkey first from a bowl.
They said the name of the letter and its sound.
Then they traced the lowercase letter on their pie that matched.
More pie fun as we practiced stretching out the words on our plates
and then figuring out which piece of pie belonged on our plates.
Then Mrs. McBroom helped the kids make their very own pumpkin pie.
The kids were such good helpers.
The couldn't wait to see what it would taste like!
The kids also started working on their instruments for our parade.
Finally we were already for our Thanksgiving celebration!
We started off with our Thanksgiving Day parade!
Our first stop was the Commons.
We sang with Mrs. Oswald's preschoolers.
Next we wished our wonderful school cook a Happy Thanksgiving.
Then we headed outside and played for our other cook.
We ventured over to church and sang our praises.
Then we stopped in front of the school office and sang as loud as we could!
We played SOOO loud...
Mr. Marolf and Mrs. Helmkamp came out to join us!
In the classroom these little pilgrims were working hard to find their boats.
They were looking for the boat that had the same ending chunk as their word.
Then the kids got to work making pilgrim houses.
They even used stacking cups with words and letters on them to make houses.
The moment the kids were waiting for...
We headed out for our feast!
We had some wonderful helpers that came to serve us.
The food was SO yummy
the kids went back for thirds and fourths!
Even Mr. Debrick joined us at our feast.
Mrs. Helmkamp joined us too!
We are SO thankful for all the wonderful people at Zion!
We finished our day playing some fun games.
In this number game the kids had to throw the cone towards the hula hoop.
The had to call out the number they landed closest to.
The kids also enjoyed painting their memory verse.
They used soft blocks to paint textures.
The textured stamps created a wall to remind them of the battle of Jericho.
YAY! What a great day!
It was a great week of building friendships and adventures.
