God blessed our beautiful week with so many adventures!
We started off Jesus Time talking about things that scare us. We discovered the word SCARE turns into CARES when move the "S" because we have a God who CARES for us.
We then read this wonderful book about a lady who wasn't afraid. The scarecrow at the end of the story inspired us...
to work with these word scarecrows!
The kids definitely weren't scared of this challenge!
They used magnetic letters to build these CVC puzzles and match the scarecrows.
The kids had SO much fun playing this SCARECROW relay race game.
Once they put on the scarecrow's clothes, they had to find the letter or word and tell it to their team.
Then the next person could go...
One shoe goes... CLOMP CLOMP!
The kids also enjoyed building their own scarecrows out of shapes.
These scarecrows might not scare anything, but they sure will make you smile!
The cold weather couldn't stop our Halloween adventures...
We started off the day by playing "Musical Pumpkin".
When the music stopped
whoever had the trick or treat bag had to pull out an alphabet card.
In this TRICK OR TREAT game, the kids pulled out a card from the bag.
If it was a "treat", they said the letter and sound on the candy.
If they pulled out a "trick", they had to do some exercises for their tricks!
This candy corn game had the kids smiling!
First they picked out a bottom
and had to match it to the top half.
Everyone found that letter on their paper and traced it.
This game was a little twist on the classic game MEMORY.
They had to match the pumpkin seed letter to the same pumpkin letter.
This trick or treat game was a little tricky! They had to pick a "piece of candy".
The kids had to figure out what each piece of candy had that made them the same.
the kids designed their own farms that would save the square pumpkin.
Next up was balancing odd shaped "pumpkins".
Then we used a scale to weigh some pumpkins.
The kids had to predict how much it would weigh.
First we weighed the small pumpkin.
Then the medium-sized pumpkin.
Guess how much the big one weighed!
Next we put the pumpkins in the water to see if they would float...
The little ones floated. YAY!
The medium-sized pumpkin floated.
Would the big one float???
YES! The kids couldn't believe it!
It was a GREAT day filled with lots of treats and not a lot of tricks. :)
We were racing right to NOVEMBER!
It gym class, we kept the kids moving as they picked up "leaves".
They had to pick them up quickly and put them in a pile
before the wind came and blew them all over the gym!
In music class, Mrs. Crumrine had the kids using these pretzel jugs for drums!
The kids had so much fun trying to keep the beat! :)
Mrs. Helmkamp led a very special chapel about All Saints reminding us we all are saints because of Jesus' death and resurrection.
Back in the classroom, we were hard at work learning about leaves.
The kids had fun finding all the rhyming leaves for the trees.
Then they learned how to make rhyming words by simply changing the first letter of a word.
These leaves blew off of the their trees!
The kids had to search for the tree that had the beginning sound to match.
This game was a little trickier as they went on a leaf hunt in the classroom.
The little white leaf needed to find its colorful match.
Then we bundled up and went outside for a real leaf hunt.
We were trying to figure out what kinds of trees Zion has
as we investigated the leaves on the ground.
We found some amazing leaves!
Our leaf hunt inspired us to create our own beautiful fall trees.
We started off making the trunk of the tree.
Then we used broccoli to add colorful leaves to the trees!
Miss Steinbacher was back to help us with our tricky memory verse.
The kids did a great job of with this challenging verse. See if they can sing the song for you!
More adventures were headed our way
to finish out the week.
The kids LOVED using these mini pop-its to listen of ending sounds.
It took a lot of self-control to only pop it when they heard the /n/ sound!
c-a-n!
The kids also enjoyed the challenge of making letters with noodles.
Mrs. Donner was back to help us with this fun leaf STEM project.
First they picked out a leaf and cut it out.
Then they created some sort of glider out of their leaf.
Then they had a chance to fly them
to see which leaf would go the farthest!
In math we were busy finding ways to sort leaves.
They had to search hard because the leaves blended into my table cloth!
The kids also had a great time sorting buttons!
They found some very unusual ones!
The boys worked together to sort by fancy and not fancy. :)
YAY! They were so excited to make a rainbow of buttons!
The weather was SO beautiful we went looking for more leaves to investigate.
This messy little art project involved painting with noodles!
They discovered the noodles fit perfectly on their fingers!
Hands up for another another great day!
This ZERO HERO day had us searching for our SUPER HERO partners.
They had to find the capital and lowercase match.
We also ventured outside for a SUPER rocket launch!
We had to watch very carefully
as the 8th graders launched their rockets into the sky!
The kids had a BLAST and can't wait until they are in 8th grade so they can make their own rockets.
More sorting in math! This time the kids sorted colorful noodles.
They each found a different way to do it.
The kids loved working together to use letter leaves to make words!
We stretched out the sounds together.
Then they searched for the right leaves that would help them make their word.
The kids also enjoyed painting with leaves!
Who knew leaves would make such fantastic paint brushes!
We ended this busy week with a fantastic story from our fantastic Friday reader!
The kids were excited to look for the inch worm and discover how he was going measure everything.
It was the perfect way to end our week!
I wonder what crazy adventures will head our way next week...
