We were definitely hard at work and building lots of memories too...
We started off the week with this inspiring book. It led to the discussion about inventing. It also was a good reminder that it is okay to make mistakes; we just have to learn from our mistakes.
We then set to work making our own inventions.
We also finished our study of our illustrator of the month by reading The Very Lonley Firefly.
We were busy helping the firefly not be so lonely.
First we rolled the dice to see how many fireflies to start with.
Then we gave the firefly some insect friends and added them all up.
Monday was also LIBRARY DAY!
Don't forget to pack up that library book Sunday night.
Mrs. Lohman led our chapel on promises.
She talked about how we all brake our promises,
but God's promises are solid. God is faithful to ALL of His promises.
Thank you SO much for your generosity in supporting our future pastors and teachers.
This week we also read this INCREDIBLE book. It was a great reminder to look for kids who feel invisible. We talked about how we can help be a friend to "invisible kids" and also what to do if we feel invisible.
Then we got to work making invisible Ii's
When we painted over our white Ii's they magically appeared!
The kids also enjoyed playing a game where the insects became invisible.
One friend hid the alphabet insect to make it invisible.
When they lifted up their bowl, they found the insect and wrote down the letter they got.
This was a fast pace BEAT the CLOCK game.
The kids had to put the letter insects on the matching letter on the carpet.
They tried to see how many letters they could get in one minute!
Another GREAT book about friendship we read was called Stick and Stone.
We learned to STICK by our friends because friendship ROCKS! The kids LOVED this book.
They brought home a special bag that had a stick and they decorated a stone too!
It was their very own kindness ROCK.
This kids' imaginations were hard at work
as they used "sticks and stones" to create whatever they could imagine.
Some kids even worked together to create a whole town of houses!
In this apple game, one player rolled the dice.
They had to put out that many apples on the plate.
The second player had to fill up the plate with the other color of apples.
1 red apple plus 4 green apples = 5 apples.
The kids wrote down the number of apples they had the most of.
Wednesday in gym we were getting ready for our camping day.
We practiced running from the BEAR.
BEWARE of the BEAR!
If you heard the bear coming,
you had to quickly get to a tent!
They had to hustle because there could only be 2 in a tent.
The kids LOVED this game!
Mrs. Crumrine got out the musical instruments for music class.
The kids enjoyed playing their instrument to the beat of the song!
We read this hilarious rhyming book about how to scare away a bear.
So we got busy trapping bears.
I called out a letter sound.
If they had the bear that matched,
they had to trap him before he could get to our campsite.
The kids LOVED using our "bear traps"!
They were also busy designing their own campsites.
These two girls worked together. One built the cabin, while the other built a canoe and the bed.
We also put our ears to the test this week!
The kids had to shake the black canister first.
Then they had to shake a clear canister to see if it was a match.
Some of them were a little tricky to hear.
They were so excited...
when they figured out the matching sound!
It was a great way to practice our listening skills.
The kids had to work together for this little game.
They had to take our alphabet rocks and them in the right order.
They discovered that some of the letters looked very similar if you turn them different ways.
Once they got them in order, they were able to challenge a friend to a balancing game.
They each picked an alphabet rock to see which was the heaviest.
They were also busy making s'more alphabet letters.
Some of them made the letters out of "chocolate" while others made them out of "marshmallows".
Who knew the alphabet could be so YUMMY!
Another S'more game got us moving and thinking.
First we had to roll the special dice. It had different parts of a s'more on it.
The next step was filling out the graph . Sweet success!
The kids also enjoyed this YUMMY story activity.
After reading the story together, the kids each looked for one yummy thing in their bags.
They counted out one yummy thing and got to test taste one yummy food item too!
Finally our SENSE-sational Camping Day had arrived!
The kids looked GREAT in their camping outfits!
They had fun reading together in the camping chairs.
They also enjoyed dancing
singing some fun camp songs!
They worked together for this s'more building activity.
They had to search for the person who had a picture that started with the same letter.
Then they placed both pictures on the graham cracker to complete the letter sound s'more.
The kids absolutely LOVED this hilarious rhyming book about camping! I read it to them from a website called EPIC. You can get all kinds of books on this website.

The kids also had a blast reading books in the tents.
The s'more building activity was back.
This time they were working together as a team to build the sound s'mores.
They also had to "trap" the alphabet bears so they couldn't get to the s'mores.
These happy campers enjoyed using their camping gear to go looking for their alphabet tents.
They had to write down each letter tent that they found in the hall.
In math we were busy adding up firewood.
I called out a number and put out the "starter sticks". They had to find the missing number of sticks to complete our firewood pile.
If we got it right, we got to yell out "EN FUEGO"!
Then it was time for our SENSE-sational camping stations.
The campers used their sense of touch to create these textured collages.
Ms. Steinbacher took the kids on an I SPY hike.
They went looking for a rock
a feather
the letter C
and a special cross.
Then it was time to fish!
It was a catch and release pond.
They loved fishing!
Mr. Debrick joined in the fun and helped us make some s'mores!
It took a lot of patience to get the marshmallows just right!
Then it was time to add the chocolate.
The moment they had all been waiting for...
using their sense of TASTE!
OOOO... SO good!
The kids couldn't believe how yummy the s'mores were!
A huge thank you to Mr. Debrick for always making these days so fun!
The kids were sad to see Camping Day go...
but hopefully it will be a day they will always remember. :)
