One SENSE-sational Week!

We were all set for a SENSE-sational week!

We used our sense of sight to find the letter that matched the beginning sound of our picture.

Then we covered the letter up with a "coconut".

If the same picture was picked twice... 

"Chicka Chicka BOOM BOOM!"  There wasn't enough room on the tree and all the coconuts fell off.

Our magnetic letters were back.

The kids enjoyed using our magnatiles to hold the magnetic letters and to create with.

The kids also enjoyed using letter cubes.

They had to use the tongs to pick up the blocks to strengthen their finger grip.

Some kiddos worked together to make tall towers out of the big letter cubes.

For math we were busy working with numbers.

First we rolled the dice.

Next we had to find the group of art supplies that matched that number.

Our sense of touch was hard at work as we made some textured paintings.

We used all different kinds of painting tools!

From squishy balls

to forks, we used it all!

The kids LOVED playing this number game!

First they had to roll the dice and trace the number they got.

Then they put the people in the house, making sure each person had their own "room".

Some kids were begging to keep playing!

Look what else popped up this week...

ZERO HERO DAY!  We have already been in school for 10 days!

These super readers were busy saving the letters.

I sent a copy home with each child, so they can play at home too!

More letter saving fun with these super heroes.

I called out a letter, letter sound, or word and they had to save the letter "pow" that matched.

Whew!  It was hard work, but we did it!

We were using our special x-ray finish wands to look for letters in our classroom.

We picked up a letter card.

Then we went searching in the classroom for a letter that matched.

These super heroes were flying around the room.

They were looking for things in our classroom that we had 2, 3, 4, or even 5 of!

We found two flags in our classroom!

We read this GREAT book to help us learn how to make SUPER choices.  It was a great reminder that we have the "power to choose" how our day will go.  The kids LOVED this book!  

Calling all super heroes!  Time for another fun counting game...

First they had to pick up a card.

They carefully built a tower that was that many linking cubes tall.

Then they had to balance a person on top of the tower.

It was quite the trick to get it to balance.

It was SO exciting 

to watch their faces light up when they got it! 

This was our IRON MAN station.

The kids took nuts and bolts...

and turned them into some amazing creations!

Look at this butterfly!

We can't wait for another ZERO HERO day to pop up!

Another great gym class!  

Line tag was our activity for the day.

This time we added taggers!

They had a blast playing this game!

Mrs. Crumrine had the kids moving, shaking, and smiling during music class.

They also sang some more songs that helped them praise God!

Next week they get to learn an Irish dance!  

Back in the classroom we were using our sense of hearing

as we told the creation story with musical instruments!

We "read" the story of Howard B. Wigglebottom Learns to Listen.

This is a GREAT story reminding the kids of what a good listener does.

After watching our story, the kids played a game called "ALL EARS".

They had to listen to a friend, who called out a number.

Then they had to aim for that number.

They worked hard to get it to that number!

It was SO exciting when their ears, eyes, and hands all worked together!

Another book we read was called Wemberly Worried.

We had a GREAT discussion about things that make us worry.

This is another GREAT book we read about being worried.  

It talked about how we all have "useful worry spots" that keep us safe.

We also have "spinning worry spots" that cause us to make up "what if" stories.  These spots keep us from having fun because we are too worried.  The kids really did a great job of asking questions, and we had a great discussion about worrying.  If your child is a worrier, this is a fantastic book!

Don't worry we had a GREAT time at school.  :)

We ended our week with a very special service dedicating Kimber's Classroom.  Mrs. Kimber Graham was a former student at Zion and taught 2nd grade at Zion for a year.  She was diagnosed with ovarian cancer and was called to her heavenly home in 2020.  Mrs. Graham LOVED teaching and had an amazing passion for reading.  This outdoor classroom was donated by her family in remembrance of her.

We look forward to using this beautiful tribute to Mrs. Graham!  A special bookmark to remind the children of this day should be in their Friday folders.

Our day continued with our chapel service led by Mrs. Helmkamp.

She talked about how the Bible is a story filled with lots of different characters.  We get to be a part of this TRUE story!

Thank you for your generosity supporting future teachers and church workers.

Back in the classroom we were ready to use our sense of taste. 

 The book The Sour Grape had us thinking about how we treat others and forgiving others instead of "holding a grudge".

Rhyming ROGER the ROBOT joined us for reading time.  

Roger was hungry!  He only wanted to taste rhyming words!

The kids each picked out two rhyming words

 and fed them to Roger.

They had to be careful not get their fingers nibbled!

The kids thought this game was HILARIOUS!

It was so great hearing all of their giggles!

We can't wait for Roger to come back again!

We were also busy making food out of play-doh.  This is some yummy bread!

Mmm... here we have a taco.

Can't forget the pizza!

The kids also enjoyed going on a letter hunt as they searched food boxes.

They wrote down as many letters as they could find.  It was a great way to practice writing.

This hilarious pigeon book had us laughing from the beginning to the end!

The Kindergarten Cafe was open for business during math to help Pigeon out.

First the kids rolled the dice to see how many customers they had to serve.

Then they found the number to match the dice.

Next up was putting out the bowls and the food for each bowl.

Last came the forks.

When they were all done, they served Pigeon his food.

Our day was not complete until we did a  little taste testing.

We tried 4 different food items...sweet, salty, spicy, and sour.

We had to circle if we liked it or not.

Some things were not so good.

Others were definitely a thumbs up!

Some of the foods we weren't so sure about.

Other foods made us cringe.

YAY!  It was a SENSE-sational week for sure.
