We welcomed in the new year in style!
Pastor Rouland kicked off 2023 by bringing his friend Rupert back!
Rupert told us all about Epiphany.

We were also very excited to celebrate Nora's baptismal birthday.
Back in the classroom we had a lot of fun working with stars this week!
The kids were amazed by our GALAZY play-dough!
They enjoyed making their letters in the special dough.
The kids also went on a little star search in the hallway.
They had to find the star that matched the beginning sound of their picture.
The kids had a lot of fun playing a card game called "star search".
It is similar to Go Fish!
We have a bunch of card sharks amongst us!
Our geoboards helped us make some very interesting constellations!

The kids also enjoyed using clay and tooth picks/popsicle sticks to make constellations.

They put the letter "a" in the middle of the star.
They were surprised at what they discovered!
Once they read the word, they recorded it on their paper.
We were busy using our memory to match up these stars.
Every star had a word on it.
The kids did a great job of reading the word and finding the matches.
In math we finished up talking about shapes this week.
They loved using popsicle sticks to create shapes
and then create their own designs.
These boys worked so hard to make a giant fence!
They were SO excited about their hard work.
Pattern block designs also kept our brain working hard.
They loved making different characters from the Christmas story.
We finished our day by talking about Vincent Van Gogh's Starry Night painting.
Our masterpieces of Starry Night will be in the hallway soon!
Friday brought our dance party back!
The kids were moving and grooving!
We love Fridays!
We were using these special gems to help us with our reading.
First we "tapped" the word out on our figures. Then we "mapped" it with the gems.
Then we "zapped" the word by writing out all the sounds we heard.
We had a very exciting devotion time in the afternoon.
These wise men (and women) went on a star search.
They followed the stars
looking for the Baby King.
We found a few special people along the way.
We asked some teachers if they had seen the Baby King, but they hadn't seem Him.
SOOO... we kept on looking for stars.
The stars took us to the junior high building
and to church.
Everywhere we went we couldn't find the Baby King,
but we did find more stars!
The journey was getting long
but the kids never gave up.
The stars even led us to Mr. Debrick (some kids thought he might be King Herod!).
Even Mr. Debrick hadn't seen the Baby King.
We found Mrs. Schenck and had a few hugs for her, but she hadn't seen the Baby King.
We thought the Baby King might be hungry, but our lovely cooks hadn't seen Him.
The final star led us back to our classroom.
There we discovered...
a treasure box filled with stars. It was a special reminder to SHINE LIKE A STAR for Jesus, and that Jesus is our light that will never leave us.
We finished our day with shapes and smiles.
We also enjoyed painting our own star search picture.
When in doubt... LOOK UP!
