Welcome to Camp Kindergarten!
Our week was STACKed with SENSE-sational activities to end the month!
We had a group determined to build bridges this week.
It required A LOT of teamwork!
our brains worked really hard to come up with our own magnificent things!
We practiced being inventors.
This looks like a box, but if you push the button the door swings open!
Such great imaginations in this group!
In math we were insect investigators.
We had to quickly count the insects
as we hopped from insect to insect.
One child put the lonely fireflies out in the ten frame.
No peeking!
The other friend had to pick out some insect friends.
They picked out just enough to equal 5.
Tuesday we were talking about being a good friend.
We read a great book called Stick and Stone (here is the video to go with it).
Then we put together our own little stick and stone combo!
We went outside and found some great stones.

Then the kids decorated them with sharpie markers. The kids were so excited to color with sharpies!!!
"My mom and dad NEVER let me color with these kind of markers at home!"
We also found some sticks outside and turned them into a loose part creation.
I was VERY impressed with what they designed with just a stick
and some "loose parts".
Another GREAT story we read was The Invisible Boy. This book is a great reminder to be a good friend and make sure no one feels invisible.
We then had fun making our letters INVISIBLE and reappear!
We also had fun hiding letters under the "invisible Ii" box to make them disappear.
The other kids had to guess which letter was invisible.
TADA! The letter magically reappeared.
Chapel this week was led by Vicar Nelson. He is studying to be a pastor.
He did a GREAT job of telling the story of the Tower of Babel.
Brick by brick he built a tower.
WE ARE SO GREAT!
We discovered when we try to do things on our own we forget about God and how great He is!
Gym this week had us all smiles and laughing.
We were at a "campsite" running,
dancing
skipping.
As soon as they heard the whistle, the kids had to hustle to a tent (a.k.a hula hoop).
If they didn't, the BEAR might get them!
The kids had a GREAT time playing this game.
Mrs. Coad had another fun music class!
The kids each got to play their own little timpani drum.
Don't be surprised if your child starts taking out cups and spoons from your cupboards!
I think we may have a few future drummers in the crowd! :)
You might want to invest in some ear plugs already! :)
For Jesus time, we did a very special activity. We started off gathered together in the church basement. Then we had to "travel" like Abraham did.
It was National "See You at the Pole" day,
where Christian students from across the country gather to pray around their flag pole.
Each child had a chance to say a little prayer or tell God thank you.
Back in the classroom, more bears were popping up at Camp Kindergarten.
We had to listen for the beginning or ending sound in a word.
If we had the bear that matched,
we had to trap the bear in our "bear trap".
We were careful not to let him out!
The kids also did an amazing job of creating their own campsites.
Every campsite was so unique!
We were also using our sense of hearing this week.
We had to shake the canister
and try to match it with the clear canister.
We had to listen REALLY carefully.
Some of them were a little tricky!
So we had to shake them a couple of times.
More building adventures.
This time the bears got to join us at our campsites.
We also had fun reading in the camp chairs.
We also had a tricky balancing act at Camp Kindergarten.
We had to pick out an alphabet rock and put it on the balance.
Then we put another alphabet rock on the other side.
We had to see which letter was the heaviest.
The kids were surprised which letters were heavier.
The balancing act was complete when they wrote down the heaviest letter.
Mrs. Helmkamp was back this week.
This time she played a listening game. They had to guess which camp sound they heard.
Finally our SENSEsational Camping Day arrived!
Here is a little "peek" into our day!
We gathered around the camp fire and had a little sharing time.
Of course we had to sing some fun camp songs!
Sing LA LA!
We went on a quick hike before recess.
The kids loved using their flashlights to look for letters.
Next up... it was time to relax in our tents.
The kids LOVED reading in the tents with their flashlights.
In math we had to put on our thinking caps to fix some problems at our campsite.
We had to make sure we had 5 of everything. We started with 4 fish? How many more campers need fish?
We had 3 sticks for roasting marshmallows. How many more do we need to make 5?
We ended our day with 4 SENSE-sational Campsites!
First up was our I SPY Hike.
The kids had to use their sense of sight.
They found a rock.
Some feathers.
And a special rock.
Their hike ended with a little fishing.
It was a catch and release fishing pond.
It was also a nice spot to take a little break!
We put our "Friday Reader" to work!
She helped us use our sense of hearing as we listened to a story and drew a picture of what we heard.
At this campsite we used our sense of touch to make camping collages.
Our last station was a GOOD one!
We used our sense of smell
AND taste!
We could hardly wait to get started!
Mr. Debrick showed up to help us.
He taught us the proper way to toast a marshmallow.
Some did not really care for the smell! :)
Some got a little too toasty!
But they were still DELICIOUS!
We couldn't leave without singing a few camp songs with Mr. Debrick!
We LOVED making S'mores!
And we LOVED Camping Day!
Thank you SO much for all the yummy help!
I will bless you. Genesis 12:2
These kids sure are a blessing to me!
