Red Ribbon Week!

We were not sleeping on the job...
We kicked off Red Ribbon week with PAJAMA DAY!
Check out these fun pjs!

We dug through some pajamas to find some very special PJs!

These pajamas had letters stuck to them.

Each kid had chance to pick out a pair of pajamas.
They checked to see what letter was on it
and brought it back to the group, saying the sound the letter made as a clue.

Then everyone in the group wrote down the letter they thought was on the pajamas.
Hey Diddle Diddle... The cow jumped over the moon!
The kids had a great time with this silly nursery rhyme!

They had a blast taking catapults and launching their cow over the moon!

They did a great job of working as a team to get the cow to fly!

Then they traced the letter they jumped over.

Back in the classroom Mrs. Helmkamp showed up to help them make their own catapults!

They could pick from two different styles.

Next it was time to test it out!

They worked great!

Next up was matching the dish up to the runaway spoon!

They were trying to match up lowercase and capital letters

that were hiding on the dish and the spoon.

In math we were sneaking away!
We laid out some pajamas.
Then we had to add one more slipper to the group.

Then we held up that many fingers to see our final answer.

Who knew adding pajamas could be so much fun!

We were sorry to see Pajama Day come to an end,
but we knew more fun was headed our way...
Tie-DYE Tuesday...  "Peace out drugs!"

Check out the tie-dye t-shirts we made last week!

Look'in good!

We did some fire safety this week.

Our fire truck was saving things that started with "F".

It was a little tricky to get it to drive where we wanted it to.

Our fire fighters were also busy looking for their hats

and what house to save.

They had to match the lowercase letter helmets

to the right firefighter.

Then they had to find the right house to save as they "sprayed" it with the correct letter sound.

We were also busy saving our own houses.
I called out a number.
The kids held up their house if it had that number hiding it.
Then we hid the houses by the fire helmets.

The kids had to find the house with their address on it.
We loved TIE-DYE Tuesday!

A SUPER day on Wednesday!

We were running like the FLASH.

Stomping like the HULK.

And using our spidey senses

to play SPIDER tag!

Don't get caught in the web!

Even Mrs. Coad looked SUPER!  We found out she is a big Wonder Woman fan!

We passed her "Wonder Woman" around as we practiced our singing.

We also practiced playing a xylophone!

Some spider fun sneaked into our classroom.
The kids had to carefully grab a spider out of the web.

Then they put the spider on a letter
The kids had to practice writing that letter in the play doh.
This little "spider web" kept the kids on their toes.

They had to carefully carry the spider across the  "letter web"...

Then they delivered the spider to the correct letter sound that it matched.

Finally they wrote down the letter that they matched.

Next up was adding spiders.

They pulled out a number.

They had to put that many spider rings down the slide.

They also practiced writing that number.

Look at these spider webs the kids created using our geoboards!

They were SO proud of the unique webs they designed!

We ended our day with a great visit from our nurse.

She reminded us of a great way to take care of our bodies... wash our hands!
Aloha!  We were all ready for the beach on Hawaiian Day!

We started our day off with chapel.

We brought super hero toys in for Kids with Cancer
as our chapel offering this week!

We enjoyed praising God with our voices

and listening to Pastor Feiberkorn talk about temptation.

He reminded us of the story of Adam and Eve in the garden of Eden.

He also reminded us that God sent His son to die for all of our bad choices.
After reading the GREAT book by Ed Emberley (our illustrator of the month)
we started designing our own monsters.
Check out these monsters!

Most of them seemed pretty friendly!  :)

We also played a monster game.

I called out a letter sound or a letter.

If they had the monster with the picture that matched my letter sound,

they held up the picture

and gave me their best frightening monster growl!

Watch out monsters...

we have some pretty scary growls!

The kids also enjoyed writing letters in salt.

They grabbed a monster letter and wrote that letter in the salt.

We finished the day by making some very interesting monsters!

We used string to drag the paint around on the paper.

Then we folded it up...

TA DA!

The kids were AMAZED at how their monsters turned out!

They were so excited to show it to their friends and name their monsters!

The kids also worked hard to measure these silly monsters.

They made sure to write down how many linking cubes it took to make each monster.

Finally it was time to say good-bye to our monsters for the day!

Mahalo (thank you) for a great day in "Hawaii".

We've got spirit yes we do...

We've got spirit how about you?
We were full of SPIRIT on Friday to end our Red Ribbon week!

We loved kicking off our morning with dancing

and singing!

SING LALA!

We kept our spirit going as we broke out the cheers for our alphabet!

They did a fantastic job of cheering for each letter!

The kids couldn't wait to play this silly monster game!

The monster was very hungry!

I called out a letter sound, beginning sound, or ending sound in a word.

If they had the letter that matched,

they had to FEED the monster!

The kids had to be very careful.

Sometimes he got a little too hungry!

The kids had to move quickly...
or he might nibble on a finger or two!

The kids were grinning from ear to ear when we were playing!

They did get a little worried that they might lose a finger!
But it didn't stop them from begging to play again and again!  :)

Outside we were playing another matching game.

This time they had special magnetic wands.

They had to find the capital and lowercase monsters.

They used the magnetic wand to pick up the lowercase letter

and bring it back to the capital letters.

We are getting so good with our letters!

We ended our day with a SURPRISE Friday Reader!

Blair's grandma came and read to us a GREAT story about being a listener.

Howard B. Wigglebottom thanks for the lesson in listening!

And thank you Friday reader for a wonderful surprise visit!  :)

It was a BEAUTIFUL week filled with so many fun adventures...

We are ready for another great week coming up!
