What a fun week we had!
It was filled with so many fun memories!
We started off the week with a turkey hunt!
We had to find the turkey that matched our letter.
Of course we had to wear some special turkey hunting glasses to find them!
Back in the classroom we were hunting for rhyming turkeys.
We used our special magnetic wands to catch them!
We had a very special chapel on Tuesday.
We carried over all of our canned goods.
Thank you so much for your generosity! We filled the whole front of the church!
Mr. Marolf led our chapel this week!
He reminded us that we all have talents and things that we are good at.
However, even when we mess up and make mistakes, God is always right there to love us and forgive us.
We were also busy getting ready for our Thanksgiving feast.
We talked about the Native Americans, so we worked on making patterns for our own headbands.
We also worked on making different Native American symbols.
The kids worked really hard on copying them down.
It was such a beautiful day we had to get outside to play some Native American games.
The kids tried to throw the cornstalk threw the ring.
The kids LOVED playing this game!
We also ventured outside to look for shapes on our playground!
We found a sphere, a circle,
and a triangle! What flat shapes and "solid shapes" (3-d shapes) can you find at your house?
We also used shapes to make our own special creations.
The kids also designed their own Native American homes.
They even figured out how to make a cube!
Mrs. Steinbacher was back with more stacking cup adventures!
They practiced making their towers.
And of course had to play "popcorn"!
Then we did another fun relay race.
The kids are getting SO fast at this game!
This time we worked together to stack some GIANT cups!
When we got to the end Mrs. Steinbacher had to help us a little bit!
My favorite part was hearing them cheer for each other!
YAY! We did it!
Thanks Mrs. Steinbacher for a fabulous morning of fun and exercise!
We continued getting ready for our Thanksgiving Feast by making our pumpkin pie.
Some kids did NOT like the smell of it and didn't think it would turn out very good!
We added all of the spices.
And mixed it up!
Now it was starting to look and smell like a yummy pie!
We also practiced matching up some pie words!
Well... the wind blew in some crazy COLD weather right in the middle of our recess!
It also blew LOTS of leaves off of the trees!
These girls had the best time playing in the leaves! :)
We had more Thanksgiving fun as we talked about the pilgrims.
We had to help them find the right ship to get on. Even some turkeys tried to sneak onto the ships!
We also set to work designing our own Mayflowers.
The kids used different 3-d shapes and flat shapes
to create their own ships.
Some kids thought the Mayflower should have been more like a party boat and have video games on it! :)
It was fun to see their creative imaginations kick into high gear!
Finally it was time for our feast.
We had to brave the cold, harsh wind to make it!
It was definitely worth the wait and the cold walk.
What a FEAST!
Our plates were full
and our smiles filled the room!
Everyone was surprised at how YUMMY the pie was (even my husband asked if it was store bought!). Nice work kids!
We had some wonderful helpers too!
Even Mr. Debrick stopped by!
What an amazing memory of yummy food and friendship.
Our day wasn't quite over.
We played a little "log" throwing game similar to what the pilgrims might have done.
We threw pool noodles at letters and different shapes.
Okay maybe not quite like the pilgrims, but the kids had a GREAT time!
We ended our week with our Thanksgiving Day parade.
The kids each brought in homemade instruments to use for our parade.
We went all around singing praises to God and wishing everyone a Happy Thanksgiving!
We even took our show on the road as we ventured outside.
We found student council packing up the canned goods and other items to take to the Seminary, so of course we sang for them!
We then ventured over to sing outside of Mr. Debrick's office, and he came to the window and sang too!
Next, we stopped by our fourth grade buddies' window. They also came to their window and joined in the fun!
We saw Mrs. Stanglein outside with her preschoolers
so we stopped by to wish them a Happy Thanksgiving.
What wonderful people we are blessed with at Zion who are always ready with a hug and a smile!
Back in the classroom we used our musical instruments to help practice reading music and keeping the beat. Mrs. Coad would be proud of this group! The kids LOVED this and wanted to do more, so I promised them I would share it with you!
We also practice painting to the beat of the music. Some kids really got into it!!!
This is their memory verse artwork.
What unique masterpieces!
I will sing; I will make music to the Lord.
Judges 5:3
We finished our day by reading a funny book called, "How to Catch a Turkey". I also found it on YOUTUBE if you would like to watch it together.
After reading the book we used different shapes to try to create our own turkey traps.
They even thought of tricking the turkey with pretend food!
Look at this crazy obstacle course the turkey had to try to get through!
Watch out turkeys we have some fun traps ready, but don't worry these kids are very friendly!
We also ended our day making our very own thankful trees.
I am SO thankful for each one of these amazing little kindergartners. What JOY they bring to my days!
Give thanks to the Lord for He is good.
