Leaping Into March!

We LEAPED right into the end of February!

We had fun working with different animal folktales this week.

We started off with the three bears.

The kids worked hard making beds

and fancy chairs.
We also read the folktale The Mitten by Jan Brett.

The kids did some mitten matching
and made some "LOUD" mittens

that turned out to be some beautiful masterpieces!
We even passed out some money

and figured out which mittens we could buy.

The kids are becoming quite the super shoppers!
The kids also did a great job of retelling the story with their friends.

We were long overdue to visit our Prayer Pals!
SO we headed over to the church basement dodging the cold raindrops.

We brought them some valentines

and smiles.

They had lots of hugs for us...

and fun stories to share.

We even had a few "cheers" to brighten their day!
We sure do love these special people
that have become our special friends.
Ash Wednesday was a very special day for us.

Pastor Rouland, Pastor Reitz, and Pastor Feiberkorn led a very special service.

They gave each child a special cross made out of ashes.
Some put the cross on their head.  Others wanted it on their hand.

It reminded us how Jesus died on the cross for our sins.

It was a great way to begin the season of Lent.

Back in the classroom we weren't laying down on the job...

We were pretending to be the tooth fairy!

Each student got a turn hiding a tooth under their pillow.
When they woke up, they had to figure out how much money the tooth fairy left them.
The 3 Little Pigs was another story we worked on this week.

The kid were busy huffing and puffing the houses down!

Mrs. Helmkamp was also back to help us make houses for the three little pigs.

We used lots of different building materials.
The kids really worked hard to get their houses to stand up.

They each had a different idea of what would work.

The real challenge came when the fan popped up!

The fan huffed and puffed but it couldn't blow our houses down!
Miss Julia was back!

This time she brought her friend with her... Miss Betty!
They were working hard to teach the students about sharing.
The kids had to toss the fruit snacks to their friend and make sure they had equal amounts.

SHARING IS CARING!

Then Miss Julia left the kids with their own bag of fruit snacks to share.

They did a great job of sharing!

Friday was monstrously exciting!

A word monster came and tried to eat our popcorn words.

If the kids got the word "pop", they had to practice their LEAPING skills.

The kids had to be really careful when they fed the monster...

He almost ate some fingers!

Mr. Marolf also stopped by for this monstrously wonderful day!

He brought with him his favorite book... Where the Wild Things Are.

He taught the kids how to ROAR their terrible roars.

Then he taught them how to be still.

We did have a few questions for Mr. Marolf.
We were excited to have him visit.

And we are ready for the "Be Still" challenge!

We ended our week of animal folktales by acting them out!

The children gathered around to see their friends act out their stories.
First up was Goldilocks...
and the 3 Little Bears.
Tortoise and the Hare came next.

The kids did a great job of retelling the story

in their own special way!

This group was all smiles as they told the story of the "Little Red Hen".

The Little Red Hen did ALL the work...

while the cat, the dog, and the mouse were LAZY!

The last group to go this week was The Billy Goats Gruff.

This group did a GREAT job of changing their voices and becoming their character!

It was quite the exciting week of adventures!
Now... BE STILL!
