Fit February!

We jumped right into this great week!

After talking about President's Day the kids set to work

building their own "white houses".

It was interesting to watch what was important to include in their white houses.

They used special "sight word cups" to create these masterpieces.

Fit for a king? Well... at least fit for a president!

We also used some "LINCOLN LOGS" to build some log cabins.
I was impressed with how they worked together to create the houses.

We were also busy spinning our wheels

creating some presidential designs.

The kids were amazed at the results from painting with a salad spinner!
We have been working hard getting ready for the KIDS HEART CHALLENGE.

Finally it was time to put our hearts to the challenge!
The kids did a great job of running

hurdling
and hopping their way through an obstacle course.

And of course they were busy jumping!

These kids put on their jumping shoes for this special challenge.

They were flying through the air!

They even played a special game with Mrs. Glover called the helicopter game.

They did an amazing job with this challenge.

We ended our special event with prayer.  We are so thankful for special people like Mrs. Steinbacher.
Some fun penguins also popped up in our classroom this week.

The kids had a great time reading with the penguins.

They discovered penguins are very good listeners!

They also read a book called Penguins Love Colors by Sarah Aspinall.

This book helped us practice color words.

The kids had to take the mixed up penguins and put them in the right order to spell a color word.

They were also busy matching penguins to the right word that matched their tummies.

Measuring penguins was also a lot of fun!

Puddles the Penguin was 30 linking cubes long!

This one was 20.

And this little guy was only 4.

Our busy week continued with Mrs. Helmkamp leading chapel.

She helped us prepare for Lent as we begin putting away our "Alleluias".

We had some more fun things to cheer about this week!
The pep band brought their best spirit

as they helped us send off the girls and boys basketball teams to state this weekend.

Some kids were very focused on the fun competitions that took place.

It was students

against teachers

In a friendly competition of "knockout".

The kids had a great time cheering for friends and family!

It was definitely a day worth cheering for!
We ended our week with some special soup.

We read and compared two different versions of

STONE SOUP.
We even listened to a SOUP OPERA by Jim Gill.

The kids then got busy reading the sight word vegetables

and writing down the recipe .

They also had fun taking alphabet "stone" soup

and lining the stones up in the correct order.

Finally it was time to make some stone soup of their very own!

They added LOTS of vegetables
until the crockpot was overflowing!
Of course they still had to add the stones.

They dropped the stones into a special pot

and carried the stones to the sink.
They washed the stones off and added water.  AND waited for the soup to cook!

Finally it was time to taste the soup!

Some students were a little hesitant to try it.

Some jumped right in!
It even made some students giggle!

Everyone was very brave
and took a little bite.

Some even took BIG bites!

Some did not care for the soup very much.
Others said it was the "best snack time they ever had"!

Who knew stones could taste so delicious.

It sure was a yummy way to end our week!

Our week wasn't quite finished.  A special Friday reader flew in just in time
to share with us a GREAT book that had the kid's on the edge of their seats!

It was a fun way to end our fun week!
