This week we were working hard
to get ready for another SENSE-sational week!
As we geared up for a SENSE-sational Camping Day
we used our sense of sight to look for the tents
that matched the rocks.
Some of us even made words with our rocks!
We also thought it might be important to practice our bug hunting skills.
Rolling the dice helped us figure out how many bugs to collect.
We carefully put the bugs in the tray.
Some kids even sorted them into a rainbow!
The bug fun continued as we played"SCIENTIST SAYS" with our bugs to practice positional words.
Our creative juices oozed out
as we designed our very own bugs.
I wouldn't want to run into into these bugs! YIKES!
Bug hunting was taken over by bear hunting.
These bear hunters were on the look out
for the bear cubs' mommas.
They are quite the bear hunters.
We even got to read to some cuddly bears!
The bears were great listeners!
And we gave the bears some chairs.
Some even designed couches!
After singing the song, "We're Going on a Bear Hunt",
the kids had a great time designing
their own bear hunting mazes.
I wouldn't want to go bear hunting with these kids!
They designed some tough mazes!
The kids also did a great job of being bears
and "hitting" the tent that matched their paw print.
Smiles and laughter continued...
as we used our sense of hearing.
We played a tricky listening game,
trying to match all of the sounds.
Some sounds were pretty tough!
The kids were also challenge to lazy listening day
in camping chairs.
They had to draw everything they heard while sitting in their chairs.
Mrs. Helmkamp also stopped by
and helped us listen for camping sounds.
The kids did a great job of guessing!
After our listening adventures we headed over to church.
Our special chapel speaker was Pastor Rouland.
He helped us learn about the seasons of the church.
We also celebrated baptismal birthdays.
Back in the classroom we geared up for more camping day practice
by practicing our fishing skills.
We had to catch the fish
and figure out what the picture on the fish started with.
The camping fun didn't stop there...
Miss Bethany Andrews stopped by to tell us about her camping adventures!
She also read to us a great book about the mountains.
The kids learned A LOT about hiking and camping and had some great questions.
We will miss Miss Andrews
as she begins her next adventure.
After Mrs. Collins read the kids a book about how to make Camping Trail Mix.
The kids got to work following the recipe!
They all agreed it deserved a thumbs up for yumminess!
Building campsites was also a challenge encountered this week.
It was hard getting the sticks to stand up
as they tried to design tents.
SO they got very creative with their designs.
This boy even created a volleyball net because he had one of those at his campsite!
Finally our SENSEsational Camping Day had arrived!
We roasted "S'More" words.
And wrote down the "recipe"
for sweet success!
And looked for letters using magnifying glasses
and lanterns.
Rolling dice
to play a S'more game
challenged the kids to make a yummy graph.
It was almost time to meet our special 4th grade friends...
But first we practiced telling the story
of Noah and the Ark.
The kids did a great job of acting it out!
Before our SENSE-SATIONAL CAMP began we took a little break...
Finally it was time for our CAMP to begin.
The kids traveled to different camp sites with their 4th grade friends.
With Mr. Debrick
the kids used their sense of taste
and smell
to make some YUMMY S'mores!
They used their sense of sight
to go on a special hike
with Mrs. Jennings.
They took their special backpacks to go hiking with them.
They even got to go fishing!
At Mrs. Lail's camp site the kids used their sense of hearing.
They then drew a picture to remind them of what they heard.
The last camp site was the sense of touch as the kids worked together to make some beautiful camping collages!
It was a GREAT day
filled with smiles
and new friendships!
AND some kids got to hang out
with some people from their family too!
We can't wait to hang out with this fun bunch again soon!
