A "SOUPER" Short Week

WHAT?!!! More snow???

No worries! We packed in as many smiles and fun adventures as we could in two days!

We started off with a very special chapel.

Zion's concert band actually led our chapel!

They told us the story of Joseph and his coat of many colors.

They also gave us a little concert!

Back in the classroom I read the kids a story called Stone Soup!
The kids worked hard to put the alphabet stones in the right order.
Then they chose two stones to see which was the heaviest.

The kids also enjoyed reading a story about a box.

First they had to find the boxes that matched my sentence.

They had to look at each box to find the word that came next in the sentence.

Then they lined it up.

Once they found all of the words,

They had to read their sentence to make sure it started with a capital letter and ended with a period.
We also had a blast hopping our CVC words.

We hopped to each letter and said it's sound.

Once we got to the end, we put it all together to read a word!

We hopped our way right to Friday...

Friday we were SO excited to finally see Mrs. Jennings again!
We also enjoyed another version of STONE SOUP.    We noticed this one had an award for it's pictures.
Pretending to be chefs,

helped us practice our adding.

One waiter put some food in a bowl and the assistant added some to the second bowl.
Once we added it all up, the kids yelled out "Bon appetite!"

Finally it was time to make our very own stone soup!

One little boy said,  "Are you sure it is a good idea to make stone soup for real???"

We added the first ingredient... WATER.

Next it was time to add the stones.

We did add a few other yummy vegetables.

Another fun station we had was scooping up the alphabet soup!

They each had their own soup ladle to scoop up some letters.

Once they scooped up a letter, they had to practice writing it.

The kids also went on a veggie hunt.

These special veggies had heart words on them!

Some magic spoons also showed up!

These magic spoons helped us make LOTS of different words.

Mrs. Collins also helped the kids make some wacky soups.

They had to find the letter that matched the crazy items in their soup.

When we were all done with our reading stations, some friends wheeled the big soup pot down to the kitchen to cook.

They dropped it off with the cooks, so the water could get nice and hot.
In the afternoon, we read this HILARIOUS story by Jim Gill!  The kids might still be singing it to you!

This soup game had the kids giggling!

They tried to scoop up as many dominos in their bowl as possible.

After scooping the dominos,

they had to count how many dots they had all together.

Then they practiced writing that number on their "recipe list".

During this noodle adding game, the kids had to roll the dice first.

Once they counted up the dots,

they had to pick up that many noodles with the special tweezers.

Then they dropped the noodles onto their 10 frame.

They had to roll the dice again and add up how many noodles they had all together.
Finally it was time to try out the soup!

Some kiddos thought for sure they saw some stones in their soup!
The kids were all VERY brave
and gave this special soup a try...

We had some customers that gave it two thumbs up!

Some customers tried it...

and did not care for it!

Everybody LOVED the soup crackers.  :)

Thumbs up for a "SOUPER" day!

We can't wait to see what makes us SMILE next week...  STAY TUNED!
