We are Bucket Fillers!

We were LEAPING our way to an exciting week!

We started off our week with our Kids Heart Challenge!

The kids had a BLAST and worked so hard!

They hula hooped.

They jumped

and jumped

and jumped

AND jumped!

They even played a video game that required them to JUMP!

Playing catch was also a challenge they were up for!

They had to toss it to themselves!

To complete the challenge they also had a fun obstacle course!

They started off with a long jump.

Next came the ladder.

To finish off the course they had to do hurdles!

The kids did great!

The Kids Heart Challenge kept their hearts racing

and their mouths smiling!

It was a great time!

A HUGE thanks to Mrs. Jennings for all of her hard work!!!

Back in the classroom we were working on being stop light eaters AND stop light readers.

For math we were busy adding and subtracting food.

The waiter got to decide if he was going to give the customer more food or take some away!

We also used our food to practice reading.

The kids took a food item and had to find the word that was hiding on it.
After they read the word, they practiced writing the word.

We also practiced being STOP LIGHT READERS!

The kids loved using the playdoh  to help them practice reading.

They started with the green playdoh. Then came yellow.  And last came the red.
They pressed the playdoh down to match the letter sound.

In the afternoon we talked more about being healthy eaters and what it means to eat like a stop light.

The kids also enjoyed adding and subtracting foods with their friends.
It was a GREAT day!

Tuesday we were working on being bucket fillers not bucket dippers!  If you have never read this, I highly recommend it!  Ask your kindergartner what a bucket filler does.

For reading stations we were working on matching buckets to hearts.

The "bucket filler" had to deliver hearts to their friends.

Then they had to find the capital letter bucket that matched.

Out in the hallway they were busy tossing words to the baskets.

They had to read the word and then circle that word on their paper.

The kids are becoming such great readers!

Valentines Day had finally arrived!

We started off the morning adding and subtracting valentines.

First we spun the wheel to decide if we could add or subtract that number.

Then they went shopping at the valentine store.
After reading this simple story about a monster who was grumpy, we talked about why some people might be grumpy.  They just need to be loved!

Then it was time to deliver our valentines.

One of our reading stations we delivering valentines in the hallway.

After they were done, they played a matching game.

They took the half the heart that had a word

and matched it up to the right picture that was hiding in the hallway.

After making a match,

they had to write the word down.

In the classroom the kids were looking for all of their "heart words" on some of my old valentines.

The kids LOVED looking at the old valentines.

The kids were also busy balancing words with valentine items.

First they picked out a word and read it.

Then they found items to try to balance it out.

It was quite the balancing act!

FINALLY it was time to party!

We had a lot of wonderful helpers come!

We had a yummy snack!

The kids were SO excited to have their very own picture frames.

Each frame was very unique as they decorated it with stickers and markers!

We also took time to make some beautiful cards for our Homebound Friends.

They always enjoy getting cards from us.

Next up was playing a silly game that challenged our brains.

Friends had to describe the picture to the friend with the headband.

The kids did a GREAT job of giving clues and guessing!

We need to play this game again!

Out in the hallway we were playing a very exciting relay race.
The first teammate had to run down

and pick up a heart.

They had to run back to their teammate

and hand them the heart chain.
They kept running back and forth

adding more and more hearts to their chain.

They did great teamwork!

At the end, they counted up how many hearts they had all together.
It was a great day and a GREAT party!

YAY! It was a great week of celebrating!

See you next week!
