Welcome to Kindergarten!

Welcome to kindergarten!

The kids got started right away getting to the know the classroom and each other.

Many kids gathered in our "library" to hear Mrs. Collins read to them.

Then it was time to gather on the carpet.
We started off by reading a very special book.  It reminded us that our parents' love will always be with us even if we are not together.  Have your child show you a secret way to say "I love you!".

Next up we flipped the first card of the year!  We will be keeping track of how many days we have been in school.  Have your child show you how to "SKY WRITE" the numbers we have done so far!  Make sure to fasten your seat belt!  :)

We kicked off our Jesus time with a fun song, but then a special friend came out to tell us hi!  Jelly is a little shy and was super nervous about kindergarten.  We helped him feel better by reminding him about God's love.

The kids couldn't wait to get out on the BIG KID playground!

After putting on our new shirts we headed back outside...

The rest of the school was there too!
We took a school wide picture to start off the year!

Back in the classroom we read about Miss Bindergarten and how she got ready for school!  We will talk more about her next and show how the kindergartners got ready for school too.

We also had a chance to explore some of the things in our math boxes.

The kids had a blast using their linking cubes.

It was a rainy afternoon...

but that didn't stop our fun!

We headed to the gym to get some wiggles out!
After reading the sequel to Kissing Hand,

Mrs. McBroom helped the kids paint their own kissing hand.

Then we used some logs to build and create.

Some of the kids worked together to make tall towers.
It was a little tricky to get them to stand!

Others enjoyed adding animals to their log creations.

Another group was busy making tunnels and roads.

Our first day was full of smiles and new adventures,

but the week was just getting started!

We started off our day with Pete the Cat!

For Jesus time we were busy talking about shoes!

The shoes reminded us that even though we are all very different and are good at different things(like shoes) we all are very special.  And whether we are big or small (like my shoes) we ALL have a job to do... SHOW GOD'S LOVE.

Time for recess!

SNACK TIME!  :)
After reading about Pete's adventures at his school...

we worked on some numbers with Pete the Cat.

We turned our number paper into a telescope!

Our telescope helped us look for Pete's shoes all over school!

We found number one by the door to our playground.

Number two was hiding in the cafeteria.
When we found number 3...

We also got to meet the wonderful people that work in our lunchroom!  They were busy getting ready for lunch.

Another shoe led us to the place we will have gym class.

The shoes led us down the hall to the office...

Mrs. Holtz showed us her lovely shoes.

Mr. Marolf has the best shoes!  He was excited to reveal his blue polka dot shoes!  :)

Number 9 led us outside.

We found number 10 at the church!

A very special PETE the CAT shoe was waiting for us.

There were also some Pete the Cat erasers to remind us of our fun adventure together.

Back in the classroom we read a hilarious book about sharing EVERYTHING! The kids LOVED this book!
I got out the pattern blocks

and the children had a chance to explore and create.

The tricky part was there not enough trays for everyone...
so they had to share!

They did a great job of compromising and sharing.

In the afternoon, we read another great Pete the Cat book!

The kids enjoyed this dice game,

where they added buttons to Pete.
They LOVED looking at all the crazy buttons!

The pattern blocks were back in the afternoon,
but this time the kids got to add people to their creations.

The kids also painted and designed their own shoe.

Day number 2 was another great day!

We finished off the week with lots of building and creating!

These kids LOVE magnatiles!

They also enjoy reading together in our "library".

I have started having the kids be the leaders for Jesus time invocation.  They are being SO brave and doing an amazing job!

The kids couldn't wait to get to the playground.

It was already hot out, but that didn't stop them!

After reading one of my favorite books...
The kids had a chance to help me tell the story!

We tried out our first "reading stations" with making our own alphabet trees!

It was a little tricky to get the trees to balance!

They were SO proud of their creations.

They also enjoyed working with the pattern blocks and people again.

Another fun station was creating an alphabet town!

I love seeing their creative brains at work!

They did such a great job of working together.

This group even built slides!

Another station was using magnetic letters.

Some kids even figured out how to spell their names!

The last station was painting their very own coconut tree!

Each tree was very unique!  Next week we get to add letters to the tree.

We headed outside for another sunshine filled recess.

We found some shade running up and down the hill!

We ended the day working together to paint our coconut tree.  Stay tuned to see the final result!

The kids also had fun creating giant coconut trees.

They had to use special tweezers to pick up the "coconuts".

We even had some rainbow coconut trees!

It was a short week, but a great week filled with LOTS of smiles!
