Apple Adventures!

Building more memories... here we go!

Reviewing our letters with a twist!

The kids got all tangled up in an exciting game of alphabet twister!

The kids took turns calling out letters, and Mrs. Cowgil told them what color to look for.

It was hard work, but a lot of fun!

After reading this great book about a tree named Steve,

we started building our own trees.

These were alphabet trees.

They all came up with different ways to design it.

At lunch time we snuck down to lunch early to sing happy birthday to Miss Pam  our wonderful cook!

After recess we went for a quick walk, looking for sticks.

We found a tree that reminded us of the tree named Steve!

Then we took the sticks we found

and tried to build our own trees.

It was a little bit of a challenge to get them to stand up.

Another fun trip to the library!  Friendly reminder that books are due on Monday!

It our story about Abraham this week, we learned that he had to trust that God had a plan. We practiced "moving" without knowing where we were going.  This was like Abraham and how God told him to move a new home without knowing where he was going.  We discovered that was quite the challenge!

It was a lot easier to move with our special glasses on!

More alphabet adventures popped up in our classroom.

After doing some apple matching the kids made the letters with playdoh.

They even figured out how to make the letters stand up!

We were also busy making toothpick designs.  Do you see the dinosaur tracks?

The kids also had fun playing tag with the apple alphabet bet.

After tagging the alphabet,
the kids were able to type the letter on an old type writer.
In math we were busy rolling our way through numbers.

After rolling dice, we had to find the apple food that matched that number.
Was it apple juice, apple sauce, apple pie, or an apple?
After reading Ten Apples Up On Top,

the kids practiced stacking some pretend apples.

First they had to roll the dice
to see how many apples to stack.
Then they used a tweezers to try to stack them up just right!

They were definitely up for this challenge!

They also enjoyed making apple trees

They used a cotton ball to make the apples.

In gym we were busy tossing apples into a basket.
The bean bags were our apples
and the hula hoop was our basket.
After they each tossed it five time, they ran around the whole gym.

The kids did a great job of cheering for each other!

In music class the kids enjoyed working on loud and soft

as they sang about a bear that wanted to sleep!

Back in the classroom we were busy working on our sense of smell.

They kids got to use these smelly dobbers to paint with.

They enjoyed using their sense of smell to try to figure out what scent each dobber had.

They also enjoyed created masterpieces with the special painters.
The magnetic letters were back, but this time we used them to create each others' names.

In the afternoon our sniffers were hard at work.

In each canister was some kind of smell.

The kids had to guess what they thought was in the canister.

Some smells the kids did NOT like at all.

Other smells they liked a lot!

Look as these pictures and try to guess if they like the smell or not.  :)

YAY!  We loved this game!

They also challenged themselves to play UNO in a different way.  This time they had to flip a card and stack that many pattern blocks.  You can play this counting game at home too.  See who gets the most...

Mr. Debrick led our chapel this week.  He brought a plate of cookies in and talked about temptation!

More apple adventures appeared in our classroom.

The kids went bobbing for apples with their hands.

First they closed their eyes and picked up an apple.

They made the sound of the letter
that they found on the letter.
Their friends had to guess what letter was on the apple.

Another matching game.  They had to go to the basket and pick up half of an apple with the tweezers.

Then they had to find the other half that had the capital letter to match.

In the afternoon our muscles got a little workout.
They had to turn the crank to peel the apple.

The kids were so surprised at how it spun around!

Mrs. McBroom showed the kids what the core of the apple looked like.

They loved watching it "spring off" the apple corer!

The  skin came off in a LOOOONG strip!!!!

Then they each got a chance to try it.

It was very "APEELING"!

Friday it was time for our favorite dance song!

Our favorite verse... "hug a friend".

It is our favorite way tot start the day!

Apple Adventure kicked off with some taste testing.

Each child tested out 4 different kinds of apples.

Most kids LOVED them all!

They definitely brought smile to our faces.

After trying them all,

The kids each voted for their favorite kind of apple.

HONEY CRISP was our favorite with twelve votes!

Next up was doing some apple investigating.

The kids had to figure out how many people it took to balance one apple.

Then the kids started examining the apples,

looking for cuts, bruises, and WORMS!

Then the challenge was to build something that protected/balanced your apple

When we went out to recess,

We found the 6th-8th graders out doing their Walk-a-Thon.

We decided to cheer for them and encourage them.

The kindergartners wanted to stay all day to cheer for them!

We finished up our Apple Adventure day by putting more and less apples on the tree.

The kids also enjoyed painting with apples!

They couldn't believe there was a star on the bottom of the apple.

Of course we had to try our applesauce!

It smelled soooo good while it was cooking, but the kids weren't so sure about how it tasted.

Some kids liked it so much, they couldn't wait to have seconds!

Ended our week with our Friday Reader.

She read a HILARIOUS book about a frog!

Another great way to end our adventure filled week!

We can't wait to see what adventures we go on next year!
