We were ready for another great week...
It was a perfect week to celebrate the letter P!
We started out using playdoh to make things that start with P.
Here is a purple pizza!
This year we will be traveling our way through the alphabet.
The kids each took a turn traveling to the letter P. They had to be careful for the other letters that were trying to be road blocks!
Next up was another dice game.
After rolling the dice
the kids used that many magnetic dots to make a picture.
It is interesting what each child came up with!
They also went on a dot hunt.
Every time they found a "domino" they had to write down the number of dots on the card.
Off to the gym for more running
and galloping this week!
We took it up a notch with our line tag game.
Lots of running, tip toeing and of course laughing! :)
Mrs. Crumrine had these kids moving and shaking this week in music class.
She taught them an Irish dance!
The kids did a great job of following directions
and a had a GREAT time too!
Popsicle stick creations had our creative juices working overtime.
They each had their own ideas of what to create with the popsicle sticks.
Some kids worked by themselves.
Others worked together to create.
First up was giving these little pancakes some "syrup".
We had to match the letter pancake to the picture.
Then they put a "chunk of syrup" on the right letter.
The kids were also busy flipping letter pancakes.
Flipping words also kept us busy!
They each got a picture pancake.
Then they had to find the word that matched the picture.
They scooped up the word
and flipped it to me.
It took a lot of concentration to get those pancakes to flip!
They did a great job of stretching letter sounds out to figure out the right word.
This hilarious book REALLY made us hungry for pancakes!
The kids enjoyed serving pancakes...
to some little piggies!
The first person grabbed a pancake number.
The second person lined up that many piggies.
They had to count carefully to make sure no pigs were missed!
One friend wrote down the number on the plate.
Then it was time to feed the piggies!
Making our own pancake maker was also on the agenda.
The kids worked hard using all kinds of "loose parts" to create a pancake maker.
It became quite the balancing act too!
You could almost taste the pancakes they did such a good job creating.
Finally it was time to test some pancakes of our own.
Most kids thought they were quite tasty!
Others weren't so sure.
Everyone was very brave, but
they all agreed it needed some syrup.
Thumbs up for a day worth flipping for!
More smiles and adventures kept our week going...
Some kids used the pattern blocks to make the letters in their name.
We also worked on name puzzles.
They had fun trying to spell their friends' names too!
Some names were easier than others. :)
The kids also got their fingers working as they made porcupines out of clay.
The spikes on the porcupine were made from popsicle sticks
that had letters on them.
Magnetic dots helped us with our subitizing.
The kids grabbed a secret number and put that many dots on the tray.
The kids had to quickly guess how many were on there.
The kids love using their free time in the morning to create with magnatiles.
They discovered if they work together, they can build some really amazing towers.
Then it was time for our Friday dance party!
These kids love to sing our song..."Shake a Friends Hand"!
Great way to start our Friday with a BIG group hug.
We opened our adventure suitcase and discovered...
We were going to have a PARTY for the letter P!
They couldn't believe we were even going to use the parachute at our party!
We did our "reading games" with a balloon
and a magic wand too!
We headed outside to do a little game of parachute.
First they had to look for things that started with P to add onto the parachute.
Then they said had to say, "/p/, /p/, /p/ before raising the parachute as high as it could go!
The party continued in the classroom with a party hat game.
The "teacher" hid a piggy under each hat.
These special pigs had letters hidden on them!
Whatever letter was hiding on the pigs, the kids had to trace on their papers.
Next up was the pom pom toss!
One friend put out letter cards
and told their friend what letter to aim for.
Some kids rolled it right to the letter!
YAY! We love this game!
A quick dance party before lunch got a few wiggles out!
We couldn't have a party without having a few positively perfect snacks!
We taste tested some pickles
and different shaped pretzels.
Some kids didn't care for the pickles too much!
Others really liked them!
Everyone was so brave and at least gave each one a try!
We also ended the day with a little pin the polka dots on the pig!
They had to close their eyes
and see how many polka dots they could put on the pig.
Then the whole group had to write down how many dots made it on the pig!
Even Mrs. Blackford tried out her pinning skills!
The kids LOVED it!
The party hats were back...
this time the "farmer" was busy hiding number pigs under the hat.
The number pig told them how many pigs needed to go in their "pig pens".
Our party wasn't complete until we had a little fun with our balloons.
One friend rolled the dice to see how many hits we had to get.
Then the kids had the challenge of hitting the balloon that many times without letting it drop!
Once they got their number, they had to catch it!
It was a great way to celebrate the letter P!
Another fun week in the books...
Let's see what POPS up for next week,,,
