Week of the Young Child

What a great week to celebrate being a kid!

We kicked off the week with "Musical Monday"!

We definitely rocked it in all of our musical outfits.

From ballet
to country western,

we had all the musical genres covered!
The kids had a blast at the dance party!

They each made a special wand

and then got their dancing shoes on!

We even found a few familiar faces to dance with!

The kids definitely had a GREAT time!

Back in the classroom we were busy counting by 10's!

We used the linking cubes to measure the table.  We discovered it was 90 linking cubes long!
Then they started measuring other things in the classroom with the linking cubes.

The kids also had fun reading musical instruments.

They read the sentence on the instrument and then highlighted it on their paper.

The kids also enjoyed being illustrators.

They listened to the story of Peter and the Wolf

and then drew the pictures to match what they heard.
The kids brought out their musical talents as they tested their composing skills.

One person wrote down numbers.

The next person found the bell that matched that number.

Another friend call out the numbers in order.

Finally they were able to play the bells to hear the song they had written.
They loved making up their own songs!
Another Masked Reader arrived on Monday!

I thought this would be a tricky one....They guessed who it was before she even walked in the door!

Mrs. Talley came to read to the kids!

Then she showed us  her clarinet.
She is so talented she plays in the symphony!  Soooo... she gave us our own little concert!

We had all kinds of questions for her,

as well as things we wanted to show her.

It was the perfect way to end Musical Monday!

At your service!  These boy were all ready for Tasty Tuesday!

The kids LOVED pretending to be waiters and waitresses...
as we began our Tasty Tuesday!

They had fun serving up some word ice cream too!
Using salad tongs was a challenge to try to pick up our popcorn words.

Alphabet soup was also on the menu.
After scooping out some letters,

the customers had to try to create a word with the letters.

The "WORD RESTAURANT" was also open for business.

They were serving up all kinds of word sandwiches.

They also had fun making their very own chef hats.

Service with a smile!

The kids also were VERY excited to eat a tasty treat!

I heard some kids say this was the "best day of their whole life!"  :)

We found some more fun faces outside eating too!

Awww... sweet treats are always better when shared with someone sweet!

The kids also had fun going grocery shopping.

They even made receipts for each purchase.

Our grocery store only accepted dimes, so the kids had to count by tens.

The kids had to ask the banker for the right amount of money.

Sometimes there were even sales going on!

We were also busy talking about capacity.

Miss Julia was back for The Big Cooking Show!

This time she brought her assistant Miss Betty to help talk about capacity.
The kids tossed "food" into the containers to see how much it would hold.

It was a tricky game.

Miss Julia had to work hard to catch some of the food.

It was GREAT to have Miss Julia back.  The kids can't wait until she comes again!

These little chefs were serving up lots of smiles.

I hope this is a day they DONUT forget!

Work Together Wednesday brought lots of adventures!

Including our favorite... the parachute!

This time we had a little "picnic".  We went under the "umbrella" to stay out of the rain.
Out came the sun, so we ran to find our picnic spot.

Then it was time to put the "food" on our picnic blanket.

We tried really hard not to lose any food.

Next up... we gathered in the Commons for a wonderful visitor.

A magician appeared!

He had the kids smiling and laughing the whole time!

One of the teacher assistants (and Nora's mom) got to be a part of the show!

The kids made a lot of silly faces trying to make her smile or laugh...

but they couldn't make a single sound!

They were actually the ones that ended up laughing!

A silly sound came from the chair!

Then a magic bunny appeared!

He put a needle through a balloon, and it didn't even pop!

The magician really liked jelly beans, but he never did get to enjoy any!  :)

We had a GREAT time with our fantastic visitor!

We were also busy talking about ways to clean up our earth!
After reading a book called Michael Recycle,

We talked about ways to help clean up our earth.

The kids had a great time turning "junk" into some amazing creations.

Look at this animal clinic!

This is an ice cream store.

They even made some surprise treasures to take home.  :)

Such great imaginations!
For Work Together Wednesday the kids also brought in some of their favorite games!

Some of the games I had never heard of before!

They did a great job of teaching each other how to play!

They could have played games all day!  :)

When I grow up to want to be... a KINDERGARTNER!
Thursday's chapel was led by Mrs. Kuhlmann and her first graders.

They did a great job of being leaders.

They even gave us a butterfly to remind us of the new life we get through Jesus.
Elmer the Patchwork Elephant helped us with "ARTSY THURSDAY".

We made our very own colorful Elmers.

We also took some word pattern blocks and turned them into word art!

Our illustrator of the month Peter H. Reynolds inspired us to do a little messy creating...

First we started off creating our very own paintbrushes.

They used different materials to design their brushes.

Then they got to work painting their "ish" paintings.

They discovered some paintbrushes worked better than others.

Then we headed to the gym to play ball with the 8th graders.

We used newspaper bats to hit with!

The kids are amazing newspaper batters!  :)

I think Mr. Marolf enjoyed playing just as much as the kids!

The kids also pitched to their 8th grade buddy.

They enjoyed playing basketball together too!

We love our new friends!

We finished the day by reading Sky Color.

The kids worked together to create their own murals.

They didn't want to stop painting they were having so much fun!

We love the color blue!

We love the color pink!

Our favorite color is purple.

We like green!

We like teal and turquoise.
 I like yellow.

What a wonderfully colorful day!

We finished our week off  by enjoying God's wonderful creation!

Towne Park was a wonderful place to explore and learn
and of course PLAY!
First stop was the turtles.

The kids LOVED seeing and watching a real turtle!
The turtle's name was Peanut!

Brenda saved the turtle after it was crushed by some construction vehicles.

Peanut just got done waking up from her winter nap, so she was very active!

We also took a walk a little deeper into the woods.

We found Chris who talked about water ecology.

He showed us a frog skeleton.
The kids LOVED looking at the snake skin!

Then he went and checked his traps.

There were a few different kinds of fish, but

 no snakes!

Next up was Connie and the birds!

We enjoyed seeing and learning about different nests.
We had a chance to exam turkey feathers too!

The last stop was learning about pollenators!

Finally it was time to PLAY!

The kids had a great time on the nature playground!

We couldn't have asked for a more beautiful day!

We ended our day with a WONDERFUL Friday Reader!
She read a book called Mice and Beans.  The kids were so engaged and excited about that book!

It was the perfect way to end our day!

It was the perfect way to end WEEK OF THE YOUNG CHILD!

We also gave one final hug to Mrs. Wood, but we are hoping she will come back to visit us!

What a wonderful week we had being kids!

We will see what's on the menu for next week!
