Turkeys were running wild in our classroom this week...
Our hearts were happy to play with these wild turkey friends.
The kids had fun hunting for turkey feathers.
Once they found the matching turkey,
they wrote the beginning sound and ending sound in their play-doh.
They also enjoyed a matching CVC (consonant vowel consonant) turkey game.
They are doing a great job of reading...
even if they don't always like the word they read! :)
Then the kids put on their thinking caps
and got work building their own turkey traps.
This trap has "turkey food" to distract the turkey.
This one had a trap door the turkey would fall through.
Here is a lasso trap.
These two boys designed a whole obstacle course that resulted in the turkey being catapulted into the air!
Sometimes the kids were unsure of how the trap would turn out.
but they were so proud of their designs!
Watch out turkeys! We are coming for you!
We were also trapping turkeys in our muffin tins.
We rolled the dice
to see how many turkeys got trapped.
Then we counted to see how many turkeys got away (empty spaces).
It was a fun way to practice our combinations of 6.
We had a very special chapel service Tuesday.
We carried our offering of canned goods down to the Commons.
Student Council led our chapel service on being thankful.
Then they taught us a fun song about being thankful.
Student Council did a fantastic job of leading us in worship.
We were going undercover
as we put on our special turkey glasses
and got ready to go on a TURKEY HUNT!
My mom even came
to help us out with the hunt.
They sneaked through the hallways looking for turkeys that got away.
Then they wrote down what turkeys they caught.
They are all set to help you catch your Thanksgiving turkey this year!
Mrs. Steinbacher was back this week!
This time we joined the WHOLE WORLD in World Sport Stacking Day!
The kids are getting quite good at this!
They did another relay race.
This time they used BIG cups too!
Thanks to our special helpers who made this fun even possible!
The bells were back in music class this week!
The kids are really getting the hang of it!
Thanks Mrs. Coad for being such an amazingly patient music teacher! :)
Back in the classroom we were cooking up a storm.
We were busy making cornbread muffins.
We were also practicing our fishing skills.
We picked out a "log"
and had to find a fish that matched.
The kids also enjoyed a game of toss the "feather" into the hoop!
They each got 6 tosses.
They had to keep track of how many they made
and how many they missed.
Tracking animals was another challenge the kids enjoyed.
They had to match the animal track to their card.
We found some bear, porcupine, otter, turkey, coyote and even BOBCAT tracks!
The kid also had fun creating their own Native American homes.
They worked together to make some very unique homes.
Sometimes they didn't quite stay standing.
Some kids even created steps to get to the house.
Painting Native American headbands was also on our list to get done this week.
They came up with their own unique designs and patterns.
YES! It was another great day!
Thursday we were ready to act out the story of the Battle of Jericho.
We marched our way to the Commons
where we discovered the GIANT wall surrounding Jericho.
We marched and we marched and we marched.
Some of us got a little tired of walking.
On the last lap the kids BLEW their trumpets and shouted praised to God!
The walls came tumbling down!
What a surprise!
Some fun 4th graders were hiding inside!
The kids LOVED this surprise.
One kindergartner said, "This is the best day ever!"
Back in the classroom it was time for more baking!
This time we were busy making pies!
Even my mom was back to join in the fun.
We weren't quite sure how they would turn out???
Next up was shelling popcorn!
My uncle grows popcorn, so he sent me some ears of corn.
The kids each had a chance to shell some.
They really had to work hard to get it off of the cob.
We will try again at the end of the year after we learn all of our "popcorn" words!
We finished the day decorating our musical instruments.
Everybody had a unique idea on what instrument to make
and how to decorate it for our parade.
Look at this turkey! We were almost ready for our special feast day!
Finally the day had arrived!
We were all set to build some memories.
We started off the day with our Thanksgiving Day parade!
We marched our way around the school
singing praises to God!
Our first stop was in the Commons.
We found some fun preschoolers!
Of course we had to sing for our wonderful cooks!
They were so excited to sing along with us!
Next we braved the cold and headed over to church.
We found some friends in the church basement to sing for.
We headed back outside.
This time we sang as loud as we could until Mr. Debrick and Mrs. Holtz came to the window.
Happy Thanksgiving!
More adventures awaited us back in the classroom.
We were busy making letters out of corncobs,
feathers,
and beads!
Finally it was time to head to our feast.
Some yummy food showed up!
And some happy smiles showed up too!
Some other happy faces stopped by too!
The ham and turkey were donated by Boars Head,
and it was SO delicious!
Good friends. Good food.
Who could ask for anything more?
How about SECONDS! Some kids even wanted seconds!
The pie was the favorite food of the feast!
One kindergartner said it was a "double happy" day it was such a fun day!
A huge thank you to everyone who made this feast possible!
Our brains were working overtime to finish out the day.
We were busy designing our own Mayflowers.
We had to make sure they not only floated,
they had to be able to hold a person (or cat)!
Some kids used aluminum foil
some used bottle caps or popsicle sticks.
After making their boat, they tested it out.
I'm not sure I would take it across the ocean, but they all did a great job with their boats!
We were also testing out our log throwing skills.
They had to aim for the turkey numbers.
Whichever turkey they landed closest to, their friend had to write it down.
The kids had a BLAST exploring with magnets!
The kids also enjoyed making houses for the pilgrims.
We talked about how the pilgrims had to build their own houses when they came to America.
So the kids worked together to design houses for the pilgrims.
These two boys made sure their was a door to get in and out of!
I couldn't believe the houses they came up with!
We have some future architects in the group.
WOW! What an amazing week we had,
filled with so many blessings.
Give thanks to the Lord for He is good!
