!
We were all set for a fun, but short week of adventures.
After reading another version of Stone Soup, we were all set to create our own soup.
We started off with some water
and of course we had to add some stones.
Next came all the yummy vegetables
and spices.
Each child got to pour an ingredient in.
Some of them didn't smell very good!
Some of the ingredients were our favorite foods.
We also had fun with some magic spoons.
We used our magic spoons to create all kinds of words.
They were so excited to discover a new word with their spoon!
SOUPer job!
Next up was serving up alphabet soup.
Each kid took a turn at being the "waiter".
They delivered some alphabet soup to their customers.
The customers then had to practice writing the letters they received.
The kids also had fun taking our alphabet stones and putting them in alphabetical order.
Finally it was time to try the Stone Soup!
Some kids were a little nervous about it.
They were very careful not to eat any stones!
Everyone was very brave and tried at least a bite.
Some were surprised at how YUMMY it was!
Some couldn't get enough of it!
We were all set for March to come in like a LION!
but surprisingly enough it was more like a LAMB.
Dr. Seuss was also on the loose this week!
In gym class we did Dr. Seuss relay races.
First up was Hop on Pop,
as we hopped our way through the obstacle course.
Next we did Horton Hatches an Egg.
The kids had to balance an egg on a spoon, taking very good care of it.
Then they flew back like "Gertrude McFuzz" the bird.
Last up was If I Ran the Zoo as the kids picked their favorite zoo animals to act like.
We have some crazy characters in this group!
We made our first step on our journey to the cross,
by celebrating Ash Wednesday with Mrs. Rouland
and Pastor Rouland.
After chapel each child received a special cross on their hand.
They all were very brave about trying something new.
Our Dr. Seuss adventures continued back in the classroom.
.
We even had a special visitor come in to help.
.
Our hop on pop activity had the kids putting out letters in our hula hoops.
The letters put together made a word!
Each child had a turn to hop
and they sound in each hula hoop.
This was one time it was okay to "hop on pop"!
We were also busy matching the little cat in the Big Cat in the Hat as we looked for our popcorn words.
We also headed outside to play a fun game of rhyming Red Rover.
by reading LOTS and LOTS
of Dr. Seuss books!
This was a great way to introduce Dr. Seuss as our illustrator of the month.
the kids practiced adding
and subtracting "wockets" in their pockets.
They even designed their own silly creature and are working on creating their own sentence about it.
We ended the week by talking about different weather, especially rain.
Each child had a chance to be the weather forecaster.
They hid a raindrop or a snowflake underneath the white cloud.
When the kids picked up their cloud, they discovered what "weather they had".
They had to write down whatever word was hiding on their raindrop or snowflake.
One of my favorite parts of the week was watching the kids tell and act out our Bible story this week.
A big storm came. It lightninged and thundered. Waves were crashing.
Jesus was sleeping in the boat. Jesus told the wind and the waves to BE STILL. He tells us to BE STILL too!
High five for another great week!
We are ready for another great week headed our way!
