The seeds were flying this week!
It was so fun to watch them twirl around in the wind!
After looking at Vincent Van Gogh's "Sunflower" painting
the kids got to work creating their own flower masterpieces.
They did a fantastic job!
The kids had fun matching letters to beginning sounds
as they played a matching memory veggie game.
We were also RACING to find vowels this week.
Mrs. Collins gave the kids two consonants and a clue.
The kids had to run to find the right vowel to complete their word.
They put the ping pong balls in the egg carton to see if they were correct.
VEGGIE DAY brought a few adventures with it!
The kids figured out a way to use geoboards to make vegetables!
The kids also enjoyed measuring vegetables.
It was a little tricky measuring the lettuce.
They were surprised at how long the carrot was!
Balancing and weighing veggies was also a challenge for the kids.
A green bean and two leaves of spinach weighed the same!
The broccoli and the celery were also the same weight.
Nothing was as heavy as the turnip.
The kids LOVED painting with vegetables!
Broccoli made a very interesting texture.
They discovered asparagus makes a fabulous paint brush.
I couldn't believe the masterpieces they created with vegetables!
The best part of VEGGIE DAY was sampling some veggies.
Some kids weren't so excited about it.
Others were brave but still stuck to their favorites.
Others couldn't stop eating the veggies!
They were surprised at how much they loved the veggies!
You may just have a new veggie eater at your house. :)
We also enjoyed learning about farms this week.
These kids did an AMAZING job of building farms!
They worked in teams
and did a great job of compromising and designing their farms.
It was so interesting to see the unique designs each team came up with
and what was important to have on their farms.
They also made farm animals out of pattern blocks
and created some very interesting farm scenes. They were so proud of what they created!
We decided to get a little messy with our handwriting.
It was such a beautiful day, the kids had fun practicing writing their letters in the dirt.
Back in the classroom, Miss Julia showed up in her farm gear!
She was excited to teach the kids about "-ake" the chunk!
The kids helped bake a cake she renamed the LAKE CAKE.
AHHH! There was a FAKE SNAKE in the CAKE pan!
After mixing the dry ingredients...(Miss Julia thought about using a RAKE but thought a spoon would work better!)
it was time to make holes in the cake.
After three holes were added,
it was time to add the liquids.
Then it was time to mix it all up.
After waiting for the cake to bake, it was time to try it out!
Most of the kids LOVED it.
They devoured every crumb.
Some begged for the recipe.
Others thought it was just "ok" or didn't care for it at all.
No matter what it was GREAT to see Miss Julia!
The kids have been working so hard on their popcorn words...
so it was time to try out some real popcorn.
My uncle is a farmer and grows popcorn some years, so he sent me some.
The kids were up for the challenge of shelling the corn and are ready for a POPCORN party!
We also worked on capacity.
They tried out several containers
to see how much each one could hold.
They also did some puddle jumping.
These puddles had words on them that challenged the kids to do different exercises.
SPIN
REACH UP HIGH...
It was quite the crazy word obstacle course!
Hats off to a GREAT week!
SO blessed to be working with 23 children that inspire me every week!
