It was definitely a "mixed-up fall" kind of a week!
The kids were so excited for the first snow fall!
We also had fun indoors as we retold the story of the Battle of Jericho.
We headed down to the Commons to march 7 times around the giant wall.
The kids didn't know there were some awesome 4th graders helping us out with this story!
We marched around the city...
and we marched
and we marched
and we marched!
On the 7th time around we yelled and blew our "trumpets".
AND... the walls came tumbling down!
The kindergartners were so surprised and LOVED telling the story!
The kids also had fun telling a different kind of story.
They used "loose parts"
and put them together
to create a picture.
Each picture told a story.
Some even had fun making words and letters!
Others told stories about trees and butterflies
while others made a story about family and friends.
They each made a wonderful work of art,
and we can't wait to tell our stories!
Another fun story we were able to listen to was told to us by Mrs. Haun.
She brought a little friend with her.
This little old lady swallowed some leaves!
And a stick, a bale of hay, and some other things.
All of it turned into a scarecrow!
This week we also had a special chapel celebrating Veteran's Day.
Our 7th grade teacher, Mrs. Murray read a GREAT book about veterans and heroes.
Back in the classroom we created our own red, white, and blue collages.
These collages reminded us of the American flag.
Well... the snow did arrive!
SO we brought some inside to practice writing our letters.
Some were surprised at how quickly the snow melted!
As we talked about how animals adapt for the winter, we talked about squirrels. These squirrel had to match the nut up with the right letter sound.
More squirrels were busy hiding nuts!
They hid acorns with lowercase letters
underneath the bowls.
The other squirrels had to close their eyes.
If the acorn belonged to you...
you had to make the correct sound to keep the acorn.
They went "nuts" over this fun game!
After reading a book called Squirrel's Busy Day,
the children set to work making their own acorn carrier.
I don't think these acorns will get away!
We also talked about animals that hibernate to get ready for winter.
The kids had a great time matching the bears
up to the right caves.
They are already becoming quite the readers!
We also read a book called Hibernation Station.
The kids had a great time designing their own hibernation stations!
Those bears definitely had a great place to sleep!
Our fourth grade friends were working hard at the World Stacking Cup Day!
We were right there to cheer the on!
We even got to do a little stacking of our own.
The fourth graders were so great about letting us join in.
They cheered for us too!
We then got to stack up the big stacking cups
to make a huge tower!
It was a great celebration!
It was a great way to spend a snowy, cold afternoon.
And we got to hang out with some fun people!
This week we also had fun talking about being friends.
The kids had a great time
finger painting with friends.
They had to work together to create their masterpieces.
Each group had very interesting ideas of what to create!
It was messy fun!
Another fun Friday reader joined us to end our week.
She read two funny stories that had us smiling and laughing.
We sure do love our Friday readers!
He has done MARVELOUS things!
