It was a SENSE-sational week that filled us with smiles!
First up was our sense of smell.
Mrs. Aslin had some smelly jars for the kids to guess the scent.
Some scents smelled really good.
Some were rather stinky!
Other smells the kids weren't so sure about.
Put your hands up if you like smelly jars!
Next up was our sense of hearing.
We had a lovely listening day filled with good listeners.
Our first listening station was a matching sound game.
The children had to listen to one sound
and try to find the jar that had the matching sound.
It was a tricky game, but the kids did great!
Mrs. Helmkamp also joined us and played a mystery camping sound game.
The third listening station took us outside.
The children sat outside and listened to all the sounds.
They then drew pictures of everything they heard.
The end of the day took us on a listening walk.
The kids "quietly" snuck down the hallways to listen to all of the classrooms.
Our hands were also very busy this week
building and creating
as we used our sense of touch.
After reading the book Ish by Peter Reynolds, we created our own "ish" paintings.
We brought in a bunch of food
as we used our sense of taste.
We had a tasting table set up.
Some of the tastes the kids really didn't care for very much!
We tried some things that were sour...
Some things that were spicy...
Some things that were salty
and of course something sweet!
We even made some trail mix to end our day.
Our week was not complete until we had a SENSE-sational CAMPING DAY!
Some crazy tents
even popped up in our classroom.
Camp-Read-A-Lot was in full swing!
Camping Day definitely "ROCKS"!
The kids also had fun creating with sticks
and playing the "missing tent" game.
Of course we had to have some fun camping stories.
These campers were all worn out,
so we took a little break.
Our day camping adventures continued
as some fun 4th graders joined us!
They helped us use our sense of touch
as they created camping collages.
They turned out great!
Mrs. Lail helped these campers use their sense of hearing.
The campers then made their way to see Mr. Maddick.
Mr. Maddick took the kids on an "I SPY" hike.
They ended up going fishing too!
Our camping adventure was not complete until we headed to the SMORE station!
Mr. Debrick joined us at this "Camp Site".
Some the marshmallows got a little toasty
but Mr. Debrick is and expert S'more maker!
The result were some YUMMY s'mores!
And some GREAT smiles!
We ended our day with a fun camp song.
We are so grateful for these great 4th graders
who are great camping buddies and even better friends!
It truly was one SENSE-sational week of adventures!
