This week left us with lots of smiles!
We started off by having the 7th grade Spanish class come visit us.
They had written and illustrated a book in Spanish
that they read to us.
Then we set to work designing mosaics of the characters from the story.
We also learned about the author Mo Willems.
We had a GREAT time reading some of his books to each other.
A video game designer stopped by to see us.
Mr. Raithel works for a company called Graphite Lab.
He showed us a few games that he has helped design.
He even let us design a little movie
and play a video game that recently came out.
The kids LOVED hearing Mr. Raithel talk and even asked him to stay all day! :)
We visited with another talented man, but he works at Zion!
Mr. Thoelke talked about his talent of playing the organ,
and he taught us how it worked!
He even showed us how LOUD it can get!
Mr. Thoelke let us in on a little secret and opened up the pipes for us.
He let us peek inside!
The kids were AMAZED!
We had a great time visiting with Mr. Thoelke!
Back in our classroom we were busy being architects
and construction workers.
They called this the "GREAT WALL OF CHINA"! :)
Another talented person we met this week was Sue Bredow.
She is an artist who has done many murals throughout Zion's campus.
The kids actually wrote her letters, so she wanted to visit with them to answer all of their questions.
The kids were impressed with her artwork and LOVED hearing her answer all of their questions.
My brother "stopped" by too! We talked to him about coaching by Skyping with him.
Each kid asked him a question. He loved looking at their toothless grins!
The kids enjoyed "talking" with him and making connections with him (even though he is a Cubs fan!)
To get ready for the Magic House, we worked on a little map reading.
The kids took turns driving to different popcorn words.
Mrs. Helmkamp had a different kind of map.
The kids had to make Bee-Bot go to different community helpers.
To end our week we loaded on a bus
and headed to the Magic House.
The kids did a WONDERFUL job of listening
and working together as a team!
We ruled the Children's Village
and had a great time trying out different jobs.
It was definitely one MAGICAL day and a GREAT week!
