We were building more than snowmen this week.
The weather outside was frightful...
But inside was so delightful!
Since we couldn't go outside, we brought some snowy fun inside!
I scooped up two bags of snow. One went into the freezer.
One stayed in the classroom. We checked to see which one would melt first.
Each child also scooped up one cup of snow...
and dumped it into our bucket.
They even practiced making some S's
in the snow right outside of our door.
Brrrr...We couldn't stay out there too long!
So we had some more snowy fun in the classroom.
Cold days are GREAT days for puzzles!
They have become quite the "puzzlers"!
The cold weather couldn't stop some COOL dads from stopping by!
It was DONUTS for DADS day!
Some yummy donuts
and some great dads
makes for a great way
to start our day!
To top that off, we had a special chapel led by Pastor Rouland.
It sure was a fun morning!
But the fun didn't stop there...
Since we couldn't go outside AGAIN... we brought more snow inside!
This time we made a tiny little snowman.
We added some things to make it a real snowman!
Next we measured our snowman. He was 8 linking cubes tall.
After we had indoor recess in the gym, we noticed his mouth and one eye were missing!
After rest time he was only 6 linking cubes tall!
We checked after Activity Time, and he was down to 3 linking cubes.
By the end of the day, our little snowman was gone!
More adventures came with a special visitor named Miss Julia (she looked a lot like Mrs. Reed!).
She welcomed the children to be guests on her "BIG COOKING SHOW".
She had the children follow a recipe that started out with 2 cups of yellow water.
Next the children added 2 cups of blue water.
The water turned into green water!
The children named the mystery recipe Green Water!
We continued to talk about winter by reading a story by Jan Brett called The Mitten.
Then it was time to make some mittens of our own.
Two mittens were placed inside of a box and the kids began to shake.
It was a little tiring...
but they shook with all their might!
When they were done shaking...
We opened the box
and found some "snow" covered mittens.
It was hard work, but a lot of fun!
The kids also enjoyed measuring different "winter wear".
It took a lot of linking cubes to measure the scarf!
This group wanted to measure all of the scarves, but they were longer than the table!
So the group had to stabilize the linking cubes so they wouldn't break.
This group had another idea. They used ALL of the linking cubes to measure all the way around the scarf!
Our day ended with another fun visitor. Miss Bethany (Liam's mom) came to teach the kids some music.
We acted The Mitten story out with rhythm sticks!
The kids did a great job!
Our week wasn't quite done yet...
We had few more things to learn and create (these girls made an octopus!).
We celebrated PENGUIN AWARENESS Day!
We read to some cute penguins.
And even balanced them with sea creatures.
The best part of our day was learning about how God knew us before we were even born!
Lutherans for Life let us borrow these fetal models.
The children were surprised at how heavy these little unborn babies were.
The children held babies that were 22 weeks old.
They loved holding the babies and seeing how the baby looked like a real baby.
They were amazed at how tiny the 16 week old baby was and the different parts developing on the baby already.
The kids were SHOCKED by the 12 week old baby!
It was so tiny
and fit in the palm of the children's hands!
What a great reminder of our Bible verse for this week...
I have called you by name. You are mine. Isaiah 43:1
