It's Beginning to Look A Lot Like Christmas...

We had a lot going on this week...We can't wait to surprise you with all of our fun adventures!
Just what were we up to this week???

In gym class Mrs. Jennings challenged the kids with some basketball skills.

They even got to do a little shooting!

For math our shape adventures continued.
First the kids were challenged to a matching shape game.

Next they could work together to use ALL of the shapes to create something.

Teamwork makes the dream work!

We also were excited to read this silly story about how a moose tries to have the perfect Christmas... but he forgets to get a tree! Ask your child what he does instead of buying a tree!

We were busy lighting up our Christmas tree.

Underneath the tree was hiding some letters.
The kids had the challenge of taking the mixed up letters and turning them into a word!
Then they had to write that word on their tree.

They did great with this game!

They were also busy finding ornaments and matching them to the color on the tree.

After reading the hilarious story of Tacky's Christmas,

the kids finished their ornaments by painting them.

Each one is very unique!
We can't wait to share them with you!

The also worked hard putting these number ornaments on the tree.

They took turns, making sure to put them in the correct order.
Watch out!  Our week was just getting started!

We had a very special day on Tuesday...
First we were experimenting with  shapes again.

We were busy discovering what each shape was good for... rolling, sliding, or building.

Next up... we read this hilarious story about a dog who thinks she is supposed to be a reindeer!

During our reading stations, the kids used special flashlights to light up Rudolph's nose.

They discovered words hidden on the noses.

They had to shine their light on the word that I called out.
Then tbey slid the light across each letter to blend it together.

They were also busy feeding Rudolph his carrots.

But first they had to practice spelling the word that was hidden on this nose.
Another group was using our ramps and shapes to slide to rhyming words.

Once they landed on a word, they had to go find a card that rhymed with that word.

In the afternoon we were busy working on a very special project.

We are working hard to finish it.

Here is a sneak peek into our special project!

As we were cleaning up, I found a group of kids surrounding Baby Jesus and singing "Away in the Manger".  What a blessing your children are to me!

Stay tuned to see the final product!

Back in the classroom, the kids were working hard to make the Nativity story using attribute blocks.

Look carefully.  Can you see the inn?

One little guy said, "We got to be the Bible today!"  Yes, yes.  So true!

On Wednesday, we headed over to music to work on our Christmas songs.

For reading we were busy matching ornaments.

We said... "ONE MORE PLEASE!" and looked for the ornament that had the same word. Only this time it had and "s" on the end.

The kids were also finding the presents' missing lid.

Once they found a match, they had to add an "s" onto the end of it and wrote it down.

Miss Steinbacher joined us in the afternoon for a WONDERFUL activity to help us with our memory verse.

The kids LOVED using the bells to play the notes of their memory verse song.

WOOHOO! What a great song!
Painting our memory verse also was on the agenda.

You should find their original artwork in their Friday folder.

Thursday we kicked off our morning with a birthday reader!

Reed's mom came to celebrate his 1/2 birthday by reading a very unique story!
The kids were AMAZED at how Reed's name was in the story!

It was a wonderful way to start off our day!

The Polar Expressed pulled into our classroom.

For math, we had some hot cocoa numbers on our train. The kids had to put them in order from smallest to largest.

Then they had to figure out which passenger was holding the winning shape!

Mrs. Donner showed up with tickets to ride the "heart word" train!

First the kids had to used marshmallows and other materials to make a track or a bridge.

Once they built their track or bridge, they had to pull out a heart word ticket to see which train they had to fit on their track.

Look we got a train to balance on the bridge!
In this reading game, the kids had to roll the dice.

Then another friend called out a word that was in that row and everyone highlighted it.

Next up they had to work together to find the right tracks to spell the word.

Each track had a letter present on it.

The next friend assembled the track and read the word with a train.

On the right track for reading!

All aboard the reading train!

Once the kids created their own special ticket, they climbed aboard the Reading Train and settled in for a good book.

In the afternoon, the kids were working on putting the hot cocoa numbers in the right order.

They had to work together to put the cups in order from 0-20.

Sweet success!

They also enjoyed assembling train tracks to make their own town.

The last stop was working with magnatiles and jingle bells.

Some kids had special rooms for the bells.

Some friends decorated the outside of their building with bells.

And some discovered you could make a Christmas tree with bells for ornaments!
Our week was almost complete...

Friday we were back in the gym for another round of basketball.

Later on it was time to head over to church to do a little practicing.

We are getting already for our special chapel service next week!

While we were at church, we decided to go on a shape hunt.

The kids discovered ALL kinds of shapes hiding at church!

They didn't want to stop searching!

The Grinch showed up in our classroom and tried to steal our fun...

After reading the classic Dr. Seuss story...

We discovered the Grinch tried to steal our letters.

They were all mixed up, so we had to fix them and make them real words.

The Grinch also stole our trees!

The kids had to deliver them back to the right letter.

The kids also had to find the hearts that grew 3x and write them all down.
We discovered one of the hearts was still missing.

The Grinch was also busy stealing our ornaments!

We had to figure out which ornament was missing
and write it down.
The kids also had a great time creating their own WHOVILLES!

They worked together making different parts of the town.

“It came without ribbons, it came without tags. It came without packages, boxes, or bags.”

“Maybe Christmas doesn’t come from a store.

Maybe Christmas perhaps means a little bit more.”

We can't wait to finish our journey to Bethlehem next week!
