Take a peek into our amazing week!
Mr. Debrick led our assembly by reminding us to "FIX OUR EYES ON JESUS"!
It was time to head back to our class. We weren't sleeping on the job...
It was PAJAMA DAY!
We got busy going on a pajama hunt.
The kids had to look for words hiding on the pajamas.
Once they found the word,
they highlighted it on their paper.
They also worked hard to sort these pillows in the right spot.
Each pillow had a special "heart" word on it.
The kids loved snuggling up and reading to their stuffies.
Stuffies are the best listeners!
In the hallway we were doing a little pajama laundry.
Once they got the pajama off of the zip-line
they had to read the word.
Then the typed the word and wrote it down.
Later in the afternoon we were busy designing beds.
Once we designed a bed,
they took turns taking characters out of the bed.
The other person then wrote the number sentence on the board.
The kids also enjoyed measuring their stuffies.
I brought some of my fun slipper socks
and slippers to measure too!
We were sad to see pajama day leave... but we had more fun adventures ahead!
Tuesday we were looking BRIGHT for Neon Day!
In math we played a subtraction game with sunglasses!
4 kids with sunglasses - 3 sunglasses = 1 kid left with sunglasses
We were also busy making words with our people.
We tried to make as many words with the vowel "a" in the middle as possible.
Out in the hallway the kids worked together to figure out a sentence puzzle.
Then they had to go find the sunglasses that matched.
The last step was lining the sunglasses up
and then writing their sentence down.
This is one of my absolute favorite books to share with kindergartners.
It has such a great lesson for kids and grown-ups too!
Then we got a chance to hold the "fetal baby models".
This baby is 26 weeks old inside its mom's tummy.
The kids were amazed at how heavy it was.
We found out that a baby this age starts to open and close its eyes.
This baby is 20 weeks old.
It starts to kick and even hiccups!
This baby is only 16 weeks old.
At this age the baby starts to hear.
This little baby is only 12 weeks old.
The kids were so surprised at how tiny it was!
What a beautiful reminder of our Bible verse...
"I have called you by name you are mine."
Isaiah 46:1
Ms. Steinbacher also came to help us with our Bible verse...
We are God's children.
They played a matching game to help practice their verse.
What a BRIGHT day full of fun and sun!
Mr. Marolf led our school wide chapel.
He talked about how we have to build our lives on Jesus, our sure foundation.
SOOO... he challenged a student to a tricky game of JENGA!
The kids were very impressed!
This 7th grade student did an amazing job,
but in the end the blocks came tumbling down.
During our reading stations the kids were busy matching the polar bears to the right icebergs.
Once they matched it, they had to practice writing that letter.
Out in the hallway the kids were going fishing!
Once they grabbed a fish,
they had to make their way across the "icebergs"
They marked the word off on their paper
and fed the polar bear his lunch!
Mrs. Donnor was back to help the kids make ice berg creations!
They each got some marshmallows and began creating!
Some kids chose to work together.
Others made their own unique creations.
We were definitely dressed for success!
3 cheers for SPIRIT DAY!
We were full of spirit as we kicked off Thursday with...
Teacher SWAP! Ms. Duberke came to our classroom to teach Jesus Time.
She normally teaches 6th grade, so she had a blast playing fun games with the kids and doing a special art project.
She even took them in the gym for recess.
Back in the classroom we worked on subtracting basketballs.
The shots we missed we had to subtract from our bowl.
The kids practiced cheering for each other during this word hockey game.
They had to flick the word puck
to the right goal.
It took a lot of concentration, but they did great!
Another fun game was shooting words into the basketball bowls.
They had to read the word before they could toss it.
Their partner read the word and wrote it down.
The kids then got to make their own olympic medals.
Friday arrived,
We started it off with a PEP ASSEMBLY!
The cheerleaders danced
and cheered.
There was also an exciting relay race...
And we got to cheer as loud as we could to try to earn the SPIRIT STICK!
8th grade won the SPIRIT STICK.
We had a great time celebrating being a BOBCAT!
When we headed back to the classroom...
We challenged ourselves to do some olympic sports.
We did a little ice skating. Of course we stuck the landings!
We did some ski jumping.
They raced down that hill!
We also made our own bobsled races.
We practiced subtracting the sleds that fell off the ramp
or didn't land in the winner's circle.
During our reading stations the kids were busy playing "ice hockey" with words and real ice!
They read the word hidden in the ice
and sent it back to their partner.
They LOVED this game!
They also did some ski jumping over their "heart" words.
Mrs. Collins took a group in the hallway to do some bobsled racing with words.
They had to read the sentence
and then go find the sleds that matched.
Then they sent the sleds down the ramp as they read the words.
In the afternoon, we finished painting our Olympic medals.
Look for these special awards to come home next week!
The kids also worked on sorting sports jerseys
and then building a sports stadium.
Our day wasn't quite done yet...
We ended our day with another fantastic FRIDAY reader!
Oliver's dad shared a special story that had the kids smiling and giggling!
What a great week of celebrating Lutheran Schools!
